PRIMER DOMINGO DE CUARESMA
From the Pastors Desk
The church teaches us that two spiritual
strands weave together to form the fabric of
the season of Lent. The first and most familiar
is the character of repentance: Prayer, fasting,
and almsgiving. The second is the baptismal
character of this holy season. The unbaptized
spend Lent in preparation for their baptism
and most of us, the already baptized, spend their time preparing to renew
the promises—the covenant—established when we were baptized.
Today’s readings echo this theme of the covenant between God and us—
God’s holy people. We hear stories of the powerful conflicts between
good and evil. Let us enter the Lenten desert of repentance, mindful of the
promises made at our baptism when we rejected Satan and professed faith
in God.

La iglesia nos enseña que debemos tejer dos hilos juntos para tener la tela
de la cuaresma. El primero y más familiar es el carácter del
arrepentimiento: la oración, el ayuno y las obras de misericordia. El
segundo es el de carácter bautismal de esta temporada: aquellos que no
han sido bautizados se preparan durante la cuaresma para recibir su
bautismo y nosotros los que ya hemos sido bautizados nos preparamos
para renovar nuestras promesas bautismales, la alianza establecida cuando
recibimos ese sacramento. Las lecturas de hoy hacen eco de ese tema “la
alianza” entre Dios y nosotros. El pueblo escogido por Dios.

Adult Faith Formation
Formación de Fe Para Adultos
Lent is a time when adults preparing to receive the
sacraments of initiation come before the parish community
in a sequence of rites that take place within the Sunday
liturgy. This year we will celebrate the RCIA rites at the
5:30 Saturday evening Mass. The fact that the universal
church asks us to celebrate these special rites at a Sunday
liturgy should tell us something. First, it reminds us that the
adults preparing for Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy
Eucharist need the prayers of the entire parish community. Second, these rites
offer the parish community an opportunity to reflect on the graces of the
sacramental life. If you would like to learn more about the RCIA special rites, visit
the adult faith office, or consider assisting in the RCIA program.
This week’s adult faith activities are:
English Bible Study Every Sunday, 9:15 – 10:45 am (Adult Faith
Formation/Family Life Center)
St. Paul Reading Group Meets this Tuesday, March 2, 10:30 – Noon, in the
Family Life Center (Juan Diego). Our topic: “The Mystery of Iniquity.” Prepare by
reading chapters 1 through 8 of Romans, and chapter 7 of our book, Meditations.
Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA/RICA) – A program for adults interested in
becoming Catholic. We meet in the Family Life Center every Thursday evening,
from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The topic for March 5 is part II of “The Commandments of
God – Love of Neighbor.” For English, come to ‘Mother Teresa’; for Spanish,
come to ‘Juan Diego’.
Parents of Religious Education Students
Parents of children preparing to receive the Sacraments of Penance,
Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation in May must attend Adult Faith Formation
classes! The next class conducted in Spanish will be Sunday, March 8, at the
same time as your child’s class. Class #6 for English speakers will meet Saturday,
March 14, 9:30am in the Family Life Center.
Parents of children ages 7 to 17 preparing to receive the Sacrament of
Baptism must attend Parent RCIA classes. These meet the first Wednesday of
each month. Our next class meets on March 4, 7:00 – 8:30pm in the Family Life
Center.
Catechist Formation and Adult Faith Formation Classes
In Spanish, “Programa de Actualizatcion Catequetica,” Session 8
will meet on Tuesday, March 24, 7 – 9 PM in the Family Life Center. Teacher: Br.
Pablo Gomez Preciado
In English, Christian Morality. Session 6 will meet Saturday March
14, from 9:30 – 11:30am in the Family Life Center (Thomas Aquinas). We will
discuss “The Sixth Commandment.” Prepare by reading Chapter 30 of the United
States Catechism for Adults. Discussion will be led by Dr. Lance Simmons.

Liturgy of the Hours: Beginning Sunday March 1: Week I
La cuaresma es un tiempo en el que los adultos que se
preparan para recibir los sacramentos de iniciación vienen
frente a la comunidad parroquial con una secuencia de ritos
los cuales se llevan a cabo en la liturgia dominical. Este
año celebraremos los Ritos de Iniciación Cristiana para los
Adultos (RICA) en las misas de las 5:30 del sábado. El
hecho de que la Iglesia universal nos invita a celebrar esos
rituales dentro de la liturgia dominical nos cuestiona y al
mismo tiempo nos dice muchas cosas. Lo primero es que las personas
preparándose para recibir los sacramentos de iniciación: bautismo, confirmación,
reconciliación y primera comunión piden las oraciones de toda la comunidad. Lo
segundo es que esos ritos que se celebran dentro de la liturgia dominical nos
recuerdan a todos que recibir los sacramentos es un don de Dios y debemos de
vivirlos intensamente porque a través de ellos nosotros recibimos la GRACIA de
Dios. Si a usted le interesa aprender más acerca de el programa de Iniciación
Cristiana para Adultos, le pedimos entonces que nos visite en la oficina de
“formación en la fe para adultos”, o quizá también le interese ser maestro(a) de
tal programa.
Las actividades para ésta semana son:
Estudio bíblico en inglés: todos los domingos desde las 9:15 de la mañana (en
el centro de vida familiar)
Clases de San Pablo: próxima clase el martes 2 de marzo a las 10:30 de la
mañana en el centro de vida familiar (salón Juan Diego), el tema para esa clase:
“el misterio de la iniquidad” favor de prepararse para la clase leyendo los
capítulos del 1 al 8 de la carta a los romanos, y el capítulo 7 del libro
“meditaciones”
RICA: un programa para adultos interesados en ser católicos. Nuestras clases
son en el centro de vida familiar todos los jueves a las 7:00 de la noche. El tema
para el 5 de marzo es “los mandamientos de Dios” amar a nuestros semejantes.
En inglés en el salón Madre Teresa y en español en el salón Juan Diego.
Padres de familia para estudiantes de catecismo:

padres de familia con hijos que se están preparando para recibir los
sacramentos de la confesión, primera comunión y confirmación en mayo deben
atender las clases especialmente para ustedes. La próxima clase en español
será el domingo 8 de marzo, en el mismo horario de la clase de su hijo o hija.

Aquino. Discutiremos el sexto mandamiento. Favor de prepararse leyendo el
capítulo 30 del catecismo de la iglesia católica para adultos. Esta sesión será
dirigida por Dr Lance Simmons.

THE CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS
La reunión mensual de las Hijas Católicas de las Américas, la Corte #2006,
Nuestra Señora de los Caminos de los Cielos, tendrá lugar en la Cafetería el
lunes, el 9 de marzo, a las 7 de la noche en la Cafetería. Todas las mujeres

Beware Internet Fundraising Scheme

Lenten Fish Nights
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops received
notification from the Vatican Secretariat of State regarding an
Internet fund-raising scheme which is of particular importance
because of a purported relationship to the Holy See. Please
beware of the website „delivermyprayer.org’, which asks for a
“donation‟ of three euros and promises that one’s prayer
intention will be publicly announced in the Basilica of Saint Peter.
The website is said to claim that part of that amount goes to the
Holy See. This website also links to two other related sites,
„delivermyprayer.com’ and „vaticanreading.com.‟ The Apostolic
Nunciature states unequivocally that none of these websites or
assertions have the approval of the Holy See.
Beginning Friday February 27th at 6:30 p.m. the Knights of
Columbus will be offering fish dinners every Friday night
during Lent.
