The women of the Altar Society want to recognize those individuals who are dedicated to the service of God and assist our Priest at each Mass. Awards will be distributed at the End of the Year Award ceremony in May if a student at St. Ambrose School OR at the May Altar Society meeting if not. Good luck to all. AMBROSE CHURCH HOUSTON TEXAS FEBRUARY 23, 2014 ANNUAL NATIONAL COLLECTION FOR THE BLACK AND INDIAN MISSION will be taken up at all the Masses the weekend of March 8-9, 2014. This Collection has helped open that door of faith for Native Americans and African Americans. GOLDEN YOUTH TRIP March 20, 2014 Thursday Parishioners 50 years and older. Join us on Thursday, March 20, as the Golden Youth Club of St. Ambrose will be taking a bus trip to visit the Galveston Bay area . We begin with a trip to Portrait of a Warrior Art Gallery in Baytown. Ken Pridgeon has made it his mission to paint portraits of the fallen heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Ken has been featured on Texas Country Reporter and Fox26 news. Following a tour of the gallery, we will travel to Topwater Grill in San Leon and have a dutch treat lunch overlooking the water. Following lunch, we will visit the Railean Rum Distillery, the first and only distillery located in the Houston/Galveston area. The tour will explain the distilling business and offer a tasting of all their products and you'll come home with a souvenir shot glass. The tour is limited to persons 50 years or older and bus seating. The total cost for admissions will be $7 per person. Cost of lunch not included. Fasting binds all persons who have completed their 18th birthday and through those who have completed their 59th year, unless prevented by poor health. In days of fast, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals sufficient to maintain strength may be taken according to one’s own needs. Eating between meals is not allowed although fluids may be taken. th Abstinence binds all persons who have completed their 14 birthday. On days of abstinence, the consumption of meat is not allowed. The Church strongly encourages the observance of Friday abstinence, but failure to do so is not regarded as sinful. Evangelization efforts among African Americans, Native Americans, Eskimo and Aleut communities, Churches and schools depend on the annual evangelization grants to continue building their Christian communities and sharing the joy of knowing Christ. Este criterio es el centro de la Ley y los Profetas, el eje que determina nuestra verdadera relación con Dios, el elemento fundamental de la fe, ya que a través de la apertura a los demás es como ciertamente somos partícipes de la promesa de salvación dada por Dios a su pueblo. Pablo, en la primera carta a los Corintios, considera al ser humano como templo de Dios y morada del Espíritu. Con ello está diciendo que cada persona es presencia concreta de Dios en la historia humana. Este templo del cual habla Pablo es la comunidad cristiana de Corinto, en donde la Palabra anunciada ha sido escuchada y ha surtido efecto. La intención, entonces, de Pablo es advertir a sus oyentes de los peligros que acechan ese templo y que amenazan con destruirlo; esos peligros se encarnan en aquellos que pretenden anular el mensaje de Cristo crucificado a través de discursos provenientes de la sabiduría humana, que rechazan la vinculación e identificación de Dios con la debilidad humana y la solidaridad de Dios con los marginados de la sociedad. El mensaje de Pablo es supremamente importante, pues comprende que el verdadero templo en donde habita Dios son las personas, es en la vida de la humanidad, en los hombres y mujeres de todo el mundo, sin distinción de raza, cultura o religión; de esta manera Pablo supera la reducción de la presencia viva de Dios a una construcción, a unas paredes o a un “lugar” específico de culto. Son las personas el lugar verdadero donde debemos dar culto a Dios; son las personas el lugar privilegiado en donde toda nuestra fe se debe expresar, especialmente con aquellos hombres y mujeres, que, siendo santuarios vivos de Dios, han sido profanados por la pobreza, la violencia y la injusticia social. El elemento fundamental del proyecto cristiano es presentado en esta sección del evangelio de Mateo: el amor. Este amor propuesto por Jesús supera el mandamiento antiguo (Lv.19,18) que permite implícitamente el odio al enemigo. Lo supera porque es un amor que no se limita a un grupo reservado de personas, a los de mi grupo, o los de mi etnia, o a mis compatriotas, o a los que me aman, sino que alcanza a los enemigos, a los que parecerían no merecer mi amor, o incluso parecerían merecer mi desamor. Es un amor para todos, un amor universal, expresión propia del amor de Dios que es infinito, que no distingue entre buenos y malos. Ser perfecto, como Dios Padre lo es, significa vivir una experiencia de amor sin límites, es poder construir una sociedad distinta, no fundada en la ley antigua del Talión («ojo por ojo, diente por diente», que ya era una manera primitiva de limitar el mal de la venganza), sino en la justicia, la misericordia, la solidaridad, enmarcados todos estos valores en el Amor. AMBROSE CHURCH HOUSTON TEXAS FEBRUARY 23, 2014 BAUTIZOS MIERCOLES DE CENIZA Marzo 5, 2014 De acuerdo con el uso bíblico y litúrgico que se refleja en las mismas fórmulas actuales de imposición de ceniza: “Arrepiéntete y cree en el Evangelio” (Cfr. Mc 1, 15) o bien: “Acuérdate que polvo eres y al polvo has de volver” (Gén 3,19), convendría tener en cuenta los siguientes aspectos: 1) La ceniza es símbolo de conversión; no se trata de hacer simples actos de mortificación, sino de lograr un cambio radical de la existencia humana, de la opción fundamental que da sentido a la vida, de las actitudes. Se trata de una conversión con su doble vertiente inseparable: vertical hacia Dios y horizontal hacia el prójimo. 2) La ceniza es símbolo de nuestra fragilidad y limitación humana. Ser consciente de que un día moriremos, implica el querer aprovechar nuestra vida para llevar a cabo el plan de Dios, el saber descubrir la verdadera escala de valores en nuestra existencia, el comprometernos para crear un mundo más humano, más justo y más cristiano. 3) La recepción de la ceniza es un acto personal y voluntario. Esto significa el movimiento personal de la conversión que se realiza bajo la gracia y la misericordia de Dios. 4) La imposición de la ceniza es también un acto eclesial. Se recibe en una celebración comunitaria, junto con otros miembros de la Iglesia. Es también toda la Iglesia quien intensifica en este periodo su estado de conversión y purificación. Ladies should have their shoulders and backs covered and no plunging necklines or short shorts. Gentlemen should at least wear nice shirts and slacks. If you are serving as a Liturgical Minister: Usher, Hospitality, Eucharist, or an Altar Servers, you are asked not to wear flip-flops, tennis shoes, shorts and please no jean or sweatpants. We appreciate your cooperation. Also, please refrain from bringing FOOD AND DRINKS INTO THE CHURCH, such as, Cheerios, Raisins, candy, gum, drinks, etc., out of respect to our prayerful environment.
