en 2014, cuando una enfermedad le apartó de lo
que parecía una selección segura ... Es, sin duda, su
temporada más exitosa, con el récord de la hora, su
primera vuelta por etapas (Baviera) y el cuarto entorchado nacional de campeón contrarreloj ... Su Tour se
juega prácticamente en nueve etapas: las dos cronos,
proteger a Nairo en los finales y ayudarlo, si es posible, en el pavé ... Sus sensaciones en la Route du Sud,
más fino en la montaña, acabaron llevándolo al ‘nueve’ oficial pese a no formar parte de la preselección.

A long-awaited debut after missing out in the last minute back in 2014, an illness taking him off a secure
first appearance ... It’s undoubtedly his best season
as pro, with the hour record, a first-ever victory into
a stagerace (Bayern-Rundfahrt) and the fourth national TT title ... His Tour is played mainly into the
opening nine stages: the two TTs, protecting Nairo
into the finishes and helping him out, if possible,
on the pavé ... His feelings during the Route du Sud,
stronger into the mountains, headed him back to the
official roster even though he didn’t make part of the
shortlist.

como muy pocos: fue 12º en la Vuelta ‘13 tras ayudar
al máximo a Alejandro Valverde y ha concluido en dos

for months ... Rode alongside Nairo for most of his
Tour de France preparation schedule: San Luis (took
a stage win), Tirreno (claimed the prologue and wore
the Maglia Azzurra for three days) and the Flemish
classics, before embarking himself on a great fight in
La Sarthe (another TT win, GC podium) ... An essential support into the flat and the team time trial, the
Italian excellent in both terrains.

Ante la tan deseada reválida con el Tour, tras el debut arrollador de 2013 con su victoria en Semnoz, el
segundo puesto, la Montaña, los Jóvenes y un arrojo sin parangón ... No dejó de brillar de enero a abril:
podio en San Luis, victoria de postín en Tirreno -con
magnífica escalada al Terminillo como pasaporte-, 4º
lugar en País Vasco -a pesar de las alergias-, 8º en Romandía ... Recorrido perfecto para él: una sola crono
individual y muchísima montaña para destacar ... Remató su preparación en casa, en Boyacá, y disputó la
Route du Sud como paso previo a la salida en Utrecht.
