Because of our concern for parishioners

names on the list for one month unless notified by family.

Sympathy & Prayers
Please pray for the recently deceased. We extend our
sincerest sympathy to their families and friends.
MEMORIAL DONATIONS AND FUND
When a loved person dies, instead of giving
gifts of specific items, we request that a donation
be made to a parish memorial fund. The fund
permits the family of the deceased to remember
them through the purchase of an item that is both
useful and necessary to the parish.
In addition to the above, the following
MEMORIALS can be had: BREAD & WINE for
the week is available at a suggested offering of
$25; FLOWERS for the altar for the week are
available at a suggested offering of $35; and
monthly ALTAR CANDLES at a suggested
offering of $50.
The Bread & Wine for the week
are in memory of Louis
Iannone.
The Flowers for the week are
in memory of Hermione Jean
Baptiste.
Authority as Service
Dear Friends,
Jesus understands mission as service, not control. Matthew’s gospel presents a dialogue between Jesus and his disciples, which
took place in Gentile territory, showing the universal nature of Jesus’ mission. The dialogue brings us an important profession of faith
of the disciples in Peter’s words.
Jesus asks: “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They answer that the people in general see him as a prophet. This is a
good answer. Jesus is situated in the great prophetic line of Israel, which is why he doesn’t separate the love of God from the practice
of justice. In the Sermon on the Mount we read: “Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be
given to you as well.” Those who have heard and seen Jesus have understood something important in thinking of him as a prophet.
He continues: “But who do you say that I am?” This question is direct and blunt. Peter says: “You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God.”
These questions are still valid today. Who is Jesus for the world? Who is Jesus for us believers? Is Christ the dynamic and demanding
center of our lives, or is our answer about his identity an empty affirmation with little impact on our lives? Peter’s answer wasn’t an
academic formula. It requires conduct rooted in the decision to follow Jesus’ in his love for the marginalized and insignificant people of
history and in his service to the neediest.
The authority that Jesus gives Peter is in that context, that of the Son of God who lays down his life for others. It is a power to
serve, not to dominate. Peter understands this, and later refers to himself as “servant and apostle,” and advises all “to serve one
another with whatever gift each has received.” (1 Peter)
Isaiah makes the same appeal. In giving authority to Eliakim, the Lord asks him to “be a father to the inhabitants of
Jerusalem...to establish righteousness and justice,” like a loving father who wants his children to live. In that context the Lord gives
Eliakim the “key of the house of David.” This is the will of the one we read of in Romans: “How inscrutable are his judgments and
how unsearchable his ways!” Every Christian life is rooted in the contemplation of God’s mystery.
Estimados Amigos,
Chers Amis,
Otorite kòm yon Sèvis
Jezi konprann misyon tankou yon sèvis pa tankou yon kontwòl. Levanjil Matye a prezante yon dyalòg ant Jezi ak disip li yo ki te
rive nan teritwa moun lòt nasyon ki montre kote inivèsèl la nan misyon Jezi. Dyalòg la pote ban nou yon lafwa djanm lakay disip yo
dapre pawòl Pyè yo.
Jezi mande: "Ki ès moun yo di Pitit moun nan ye?" . Yo reponn ke an jeneral moun yo wè l 'tankou yon pwofèt. Sa a se yon bon
repons. Yo sitiye Jezi pami gwo liy pwofèt pèp Izrayèl la e se pousa li pa separe renmen pou Bondye ak pratik lajistis. Nan Diskou sou
an.
Kesyon sa yo toujou valab lajounen jodi a. Ki moun ke Jezi ye pou mond lan? Ki moun Jezi ye pou moun ki kwè nan li yo? Eske
Kris la se poto mitan lavi nou oswa eske repons nou yo sou idantite l yon afimasyon vid ki pa gen okenn enpak sou lavi nou? Repons
Pyè a pa t yon fòmil laprann nan liv. Repons li a mande yon konduit ki anrasinen nan desizyon pou n swiv Jezi nan lanmou. Li pou
pou domine. Pyè konprann sa e kèk tan apre li refere a tèt li kòm "sèvitè ak apòt," e li konseye nou tout " pou youn sèvi lòt ak
kèlkanswa kado nou chak te resevwa." (1 Pyè)
Ezayi fè menm apèl la. Nan bay Elyakim otorite Seyè a mande l pou l "vi n yon papa pou moun ki rete nan lavil Jerizalèm yo...
Elyakim
pou l tabli laverite ak jistis," tankou yon papa ki renmen pitit li yo e ki vle yo gen lavi. Nan kontèks sa a Seyè a bayFr.
Bill "kle
kay David la." Sa a se volonte sila ke nou li nan liv Women yo: "Ala jijman yo difisil pou n konprann e nou pap janm fin konprann
fason li!" Lavi chak kretyen anrasinen nan Kontanplasyon mistè Bondye a.

REFLECTION
IN MEMORIAM
In today’s readings, St. Paul reminds the
Romans—and us—that all things come
from God: “For from Him and through
Him and for Him all things are.” Good
stewards understand that all is gift and
share generously the gifts of time, talent
and treasure with which they’ve been
blessed.
We are grateful this week for all stewards in
our parish who strive to make their gifts grow
and to share them lovingly, in justice, with
others.
For President Obama, and all who govern
this nation: for the courage to defend the
innocent, and the wisdom to protect the
weakest among us;
In 2011, there were 8,583 homicides by
firearms out of 12,664 homicides total.
This means that more than two-thirds
of homicides involve a firearm.
Let us turn to our Lord in prayer that we
make a commitment to the control of
firearms and bring about a culture of love
and peace.
We pray to the Lord:

Nothing but heaven itself is better than
a friend who is really a friend.
We pray that if things go wrong, you’ll always remember that God loves you and so do we.
We pray that you’ll laugh a lot during your day.
We pray that you will follow in Jesus’ footsteps
and grow in wisdom and in stature and in favor
with God and man.
Most of all, we pray that this year will be filled
with learning, growth, joy and fun.
