PROCLAIM THE
KINGDOM OF GOD
L
ast Sunday, Jesus rebuked
James and John for wanting to
“call down fire from
heaven” (Luke 9:54–55) on an
unwelcoming town. As he sends forth
disciples today, Jesus again forbids
retaliation against non-receptive
listeners (10:10–11), showing us how to
be Jesus’ “missionaries of mercy” this
Jubilee Year of Mercy. Like the first
disciples, we are sent not to proclaim
ourselves but Jesus. As Jesus sent them in pairs, so are we
also to work together in the community of the Church.
We often describe the Church as Isaiah describes
Jerusalem in today’s first reading, our comforting,
nurturing Mother (Isaiah 66:13). So, going forth gently,
like lambs among wolves (Luke 10:3), we share
comforting peace, nurturing food and drink (Luke’s image
for Eucharist), and Jesus’ healing promise of unfailing,
unconditional mercy (10:5, 7, 9). Thus Jesus bids us
proclaim the kingdom of God by showing what God’s
kingdom looks like in action. “Go, preach the Gospel,”
Pope Francis’ saintly namesake of Assisi is said to have
instructed his first friars, “and when necessary, use
words!” —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
PROCLAMEN EL
REINO DE DIOS
E
l pasado domingo, Jesús reprendió
a Santiago y a Juan por querer
hacer “bajar fuego del
cielo” (Lucas 9:54–55) a un pueblo que no
los recibió. Hoy, al enviar discípulos, Jesús
también les prohíbe represalias contra
quienes no los escuchan (10:10–11),
mostrándonos cómo ser “discípulos de la
misericordia” de Jesús en este Año Jubilar.
Igual que los primeros discípulos, somos
enviados a proclamar a Jesús, no a
nosotros mismos.
(Lucas 10:3), compartimos paz reconfortante, alimentos y bebidas

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION (EMHC)
IS GOD CALLING YOU TO HELP SERVE HOLY COMMUNION AT MASS OR TO THE SICK & HOMEBOUND?
St. Francis is in need of people age 15 and older, who are fully initiated Catholics, to be
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs). To fulfill this ministry you must be
an active member of the parish and be of sufficient maturity and temperament to
undertake this ministry. You must have no impediment to receiving Holy Communion
and participating in the sacramental life of the Church. For information about becoming
an EMHC, please contact Jonathan Branton, Director of Music & Liturgy at (407) 8864602, or at [email protected].
USHERS (MINISTERS OF HOSPITALITY):
Ushers greet and welcome our spiritual family and are responsible for ensuring that everyone
entering the church feels comfortable and welcome. Ushers guide and assist the parishioners to
their seats and direct them to reception of Holy Communion. Additionally, they arrange for parish
families (the Honor Family) to carry up gifts during the weekend Masses. Men, women and teens
are welcome in this ministry. Persons are chosen for their spirit of friendliness and openness in
welcoming and greeting members of the community.
