Dear Parents,
With the end of the school year upon us, we know that you are making plans for your child’s summer
vacation activities. While the summer months are a welcome opportunity for fun and relaxation, the
break from school activities often causes students to experience a lag in learning upon returning to
school in the fall.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools is implementing a Summer Reading program for all students in
grades K-12. Wesley Matthews Elementary will be following MDCPS’s K-12 Summer Reading
Guidelines. The chart below lists the grade levels and required readings that should be completed before
the start of the 2011-2012 school year. Two Fiction books have been selected for each grade. In
addition, to those two books, students are to select one Non-Fiction book on a topic of interest to them.
For each book that the children read, there is an assigned activity that will be collected in August, during
the first week of school, by your child’s future teacher.

Al finalizar el año escolar, sabemos que ya están planeando las actividades de verano de su hijo/a.
Aunque los meses de verano son una buena oportunidad para divertirse y relajarse, el descanso de las
actividades escolares puede causar que los alumnos se atrasen al regresar a la escuela en el otoño.
Las escuelas públicas del condado de Miami-Dade (MDCPS) están implementando un Programa de
Lectura para todos los alumnos de K -12. Wesley Matthews Elementary seguirá la Guía de Lectura de
Verano (K-12) prescrita por MDCPS. La siguiente tabla incluye una lista de lecturas requeridas para
cada grado, las cuales deben ser completadas antes del comienzo del año escolar. Dos libros de
