PASTOR’S CORNER
Greetings,
I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits. It is time to step up
and get involved! As baptized Catholics all of us have a responsibility to live
as Disciples of our Lord who calls us to serve. This is a huge parish and there
are many opportunities to live the Gospel message of love, compassion and
concern for others.
Our parish is in need of your help in several areas:
Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers and Hospitality Ministers.
Fr. John Henderson
We need strong readers at mass who are willing to proclaim the good
news. We need Eucharistic Ministers to assist the presider at Mass to distribute the Body
and Blood of Christ. We need Ministers of welcome to greet parishioners and new comers
at the doors of our church.
If we do not get enough Eucharistic Ministers we might have to only distribute the Body of
Christ and not the Blood at mass. I know of parishes that do not have enough help and
therefore cannot distribute the cup. Imagine not having any greeters at the doors of the
church, no one to take up the collection and pass out the bulletins.
Core Members for our Youth Ministry.
My brothers and sisters we need your help to teach, guide and lead our youth (6 th grade –
12th grade). If we are to have an excellent youth ministry then we must be there for them.
Without the necessary help then we cannot have a youth ministry program in our parish
and believe me that would be disastrous. One person cannot lead 200 youth. If you are
interested in working with middle school children or high school age teens then please
help.
Our Middle School students will meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:15 PM and our
High School Youth will meet on Sunday Evenings from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
We need help with our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation). This is a very important
ministry which serves the needs of those interested in being baptized.
We need help with our Confirmation Program. I am predicting that we will have over
100 teens (freshmen and sophomores) preparing for this important Sacrament. This class
will be held once a month on Sunday evenings from 5:00-7:00 PM.
For all of these ministries there will be training. If you have never done it before there will be
help. PLEASE consider being a part of the action. Give me a call on my cell 541-230-4494 if you
are interested. I would love to meet with you. Junior and seniors can also help in leadership
roles. Now is the time to listen to Jesus’ call! I will be running this letter for several weeks hoping
that someone hears the call. Have a great Week! We have a great parish! Now is the time for
growth, for action and for love!
Have a great week,
Your friend,
Father John

Before the new school year starts, let’s get together one last time for some fun outdoors. Start
your year off right with games followed by Bible
Study, August 28, 5:00 to 6:30 PM
Dorothy learned a great deal about how maps,
geography, art and culture can and do intersect.
The program was led by Maryhill’s executive director and featured a cartographic artist, a poet,
other visual artists, and a bookmaker.
During Summer Camp’s final week, campers enjoyed OMSI’s traveling bug and reptile exhibit. If
they dared, campers could pet snakes, lizards,
very large centipedes and other creepy crawlers.

SHARED LEADERSHIP NOTES
PASTORAL COUNCIL & COMMISSION REPORTS
The Faith Formation Commission met on June 16th to review the status of the parish survey and plan the next steps
in the survey process. Attendees included Mary, Gerlinde, Kathy, Veronica, Donna, Susie, Cindy, and Kevin. The
Commission made the following decisions:

The “target” for the minimum number of survey responses is 200.

The survey schedule was extended through the Summer.

A number of actions will be taken to advertise the survey and promote responses, including
an outreach during the fellowship time after Sunday masses.
The next meeting is scheduled for July 21st and all are welcome to attend!
Window into Divine Mercy
The center of our faith and the greatest gift the Church brings us is the Eucharist. The reality of Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist, however, is often underappreciated in the same way that most things that are not really
visible to us or are always available to us become. Jesus in His mercy, however, boosts our faith through miracles.
There have very recently been two Eucharistic miracles in Poland
which have been confirmed by the Vatican. One took place in Sokolka in
2008 and the second in Legnica in 2013 at two opposite ends of Poland.
Both took place in the same manner. A host was dropped on the floor,
was then picked up and placed in a vessel of water, and then placed in a
tabernacle. At removal from the tabernacle, it was found that the host had
not dissolved and one part of it had a red substance resembling a blood
clot on it. This substance was placed on a corporal and extensive testing
was done (including pathological, microbiological, and DNA testing) by
doctors considered the best specialists in their fields. The substance was
found to be human heart tissue in a state of agony with blood type AB. In
both churches, the heart tissue on a corporal was placed in a monstrance
and remains in the churches for the faithful to
worship. Many miracles, including some very
great ones, have been attributed to the faithful
turning to Christ present through these Eucharistic miracles.
I visited the church in Sokolka three
years ago and just visited the church in Legnica a few days ago. It truly gripped my heart to see the real visible heart of Jesus
before me and in a renewal of faith to know that Jesus is present in the Eucharist
for me to consume and who remains in me with the reception of each Holy Communion. Within each of us, Jesus needs to be allowed to work through us by always showing mercy to everyone we encounter. We are truly living tabernacles.
Jesus, I trust in You - Losia Radominski

THURSDAY MORNINGS
Throughout the year from
9:30 to 11 AM
Join women of all ages for prayer and
faith sharing. We begin a new study
on Aug 4th, using the book and DVD
of the same name: Saying Yes by Fr
Albert Haase, OFM. We will focus on
answering the questions… What is god
asking of me? How do I know if this is
really of God and not simply my imagination? Should I follow my head or my heart?
Contact Cindy to reserve a book.
This book was published to coincide with Pope
Francis's Year of Mercy and the Vatican's canonization of Mother Teresa. Featuring never before published testimonials by people close to Mother Teresa as well as prayers and suggestions for putting
these ideas into practice, A Call to Mercy is not only a lovely keepsake, but a living testament to the
teachings of a saint whose ideas are important, relevant and very necessary in the 21st century.
Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light by Mother
Teresa (Author), Brian Kolodiejchuk (Author, Editor), Published: September 4, 2007
During her lifelong service to the poorest of the
poor, Mother Teresa became an icon of compassion
to people of all religions; her
extraordinary contributions
to the care of the sick, the
dying, and thousands of
others nobody else was prepared to look after has been
recognized and acclaimed
throughout the world. This
collection of her writing and
reflections, almost all of
which have never been made public before, sheds
light on Mother Teresa's interior life in a way that
reveals the depth and intensity of her holiness for
the first time.
Fr. Brian Kolodiejchuk, M.C. knew Mother Teresa
for twenty years. Both of his books are available as
Amazon Kindle, Hardback, or Paperback.

BLOOD DRIVE
Tuesday,
August 30, 2 to 7 PM
St Anthony Francis Hall
There’s always a need for blood.
Some facts about blood needs:
 Every 2 seconds someone in the US
needs blood
 More than 44,000 blood donations are
needed every day
 The average blood red sell transfusion
is about 3 pints
 A single car accident victim can require
as many as 100 pints of blood
Four types of products can be derived from
blood, red cells, platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitate. Typically 2 or 3 of these products are produced from 1 pint of blood;
hence each donation can save up to 3 lives.

HISPANIC MINISTRY
Saludos,
domingos.
Por todos estos ministerios habrá entrenamiento. Si nunca lo has hecho antes habrá ayuda.
