Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living “The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have learned along the way. Interested in being Catholic? Volume XVIII No. 1832 Fourth Sunday In Ordinary Time April 17, 2016 In the Spring of 1916, a year before the appearance of Our Lady of Fatima, God sent an angel three times to prepare the three children to whom Our Lady would soon appear. The children were Sister Lucia and her cousins, Blessed Francisco and Jacinta. First Apparition: “Do not be afraid. I am the Angel of Peace. Pray with me." Prostrating himself on the ground the angel prayed three times: "My God, I believe, I adore, I trust, and I love You. I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust, and do not love You.” Then the angel rose and said: "Pray in this way. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to your supplications." Second Apparition: “"What are you doing? Pray! Pray much! The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have merciful designs upon you. Offer prayers and sacrifices constantly to the Most High." Third Apparition: Prostrating himself, as had the first time, he asked the children to pray with him and say three times: "Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference, by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I pray for the conversion of poor sinners." The Mother of Jesus, the Most Holy Virgin Mary, appeared to these three children at Fatima, Portugal during the summer of 1917. Mary gave the world a message called the “Peace Plan from Heaven”; calling us to conversion, prayer and penance. “If what I tell you is done, many sinners will be converted and there will be peace…” “…Pray, pray a great deal and make sacrifices for sinners, for many souls go to hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them.” The Virgin promised many miracles that occurred. On May 13, 2000, Pope John Paul II declared two of the three children “Blessed,” during a ceremony at Fatima attended by hundreds of thousands. Realizing that most of the world’s people were not hearing about the Fatima Message, it was decided to send a statue on a teaching mission. Since 1947 the Pilgrim Virgin Statue has been traveling across the world bringing the presence of Mary and Her message. Miracles of Conversion and cures have occurred along the way. An official documentarian of Fatima said” “Never in the history of the Church have charismas descended in such abundance on the people of God as through the Pilgrim Virgin.” ~ http://www.pilgrimvirginstatue.com/ The primary purpose of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue home family visitation is to aid families in responding to the requests made by the Blessed Mary during her apparitions at Fatima. The essence of her requests is threefold: Return to God; Make reparation for sins; Pray the Rosary for Peace. - Return to God: Turn away from sin and obey the Ten Commandments. - Make reparation for sins: Practice some form of penance and sacrifice in atonement for our own sins and the sins of others. An offering of the sacrifices required in performing the daily duties of one’s state in life is a good starting point. - Pray the Rosary for Peace: She asked us to pray the Rosary every day. The commitment required of those families desiring to welcome Mary into their homes is threefold. • Make a special effort to avoid sin during her presence. • Perform some form of penance or sacrifice during the week of her visit in reparation for sin. • Pray the Rosary as a family in the presence of her statue each day. A visitation consists of the following: 1. The Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Mary is escorted to the home at the agreed date and time by no less than a pair of Our Lady Star of the Sea Praesidium (Legion of Mary) members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. 2. The statue is enthroned and displayed at the location prepared by the family. 3. A brief welcome prayer is recited by all present led by the head of the family or his designate. 4. Each day the family fulfills their commitment to pray the rosary together for a week at a convenient time of their choosing. At the request of the family, the Pilgrim Virgin Statue can extend its stay for up to another week if scheduling permits. 5. At the appointed date and time the members of the Legion of Mary return to the home, lead a short concluding prayer service, and escorts the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Mary to the next family’s home. to sign up for the Pilgrim Virgin Statue (Our Lady of Fatima) contact Lora Ruzicka at [email protected] or 281.333.3891 ext. 323.
