RELIGIOUS ED (K-12TH GRADES)
Coordinators: JoAnna Rubio & Delia Blanco
We are so grateful for each of our Catechist! Our program is effective
and made possible because of their dedication to the Gospel and our
faith. As our new year approaches, we want to ensure that our team is
spiritually nourished and ready for this year of ministry. There will be
a retreat on Saturday, August 9, from 9am-6pm. Registration is at 8:45
AM. This retreat is a great chance to renew your faith, live your baptism
and fall in love with Jesus once again. All catechists are strongly
encouraged to attend. CATECHISTS TEACHING SACRAMENTS
(ALL CONFIRMATION AND COMMUNION YEARS) ARE
REQUIRED TO ATTEND. We will be closing with prayer and a holy
hour. It is necessary that you complete the retreat in its entirety. The
retreat will be given by our invited keynote speaker, Noe Rocha. Noe
has done extensive ministry all over the United States and in Mexico.
His zeal for ministry is rooted in the love of God he experienced in
his radical conversion at the age of 27. There will be no fee for the
retreat but we ask that attendees prayerfully consider a donation at the
end of the retreat to cover the cost of breakfast and lunch. PLEASE,
RSVP BY FRIDAY, AUGUST 1. YOU MAY CALL THE RE OFFICE:
(512)312-2520 ext. 137, 138, 129, or 108 or via email: mariarocha@

Reconciliation & First Communion Preparation - Traditionally children
celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) and First
Communion in the second grade. For their preparation, children attend
Religious Education for two years (1st grade & 2nd grade). The first
RELIGIOUS ED (K-12TH GRADES)
year is traditionally 1st grade and the second, 2nd grade, is continued
preparation for the sacraments and the celebration. Older children who
have not celebrated the sacraments and need to prepare participate in the
RCIA for Children Program. Register for Religious Education to get your
child ready to celebrate the sacraments.

Confirmation - A minimum of two years, traditionally 8th grade and 9th
grade, of formal religious education in a parish precedes the Confirmation
Preparation Program at Santa Cruz. Students who attend their 8th and 9th
grade years will enter into the Confirmation Preparation Program in their
10th grade year. If a student did not attend 8th grade, the DRE / High School
RE Coordinator will work with parents to place the child in appropriate
classes. These guidelines are in accordance with the Diocese of Austin.
Register for Religious Education to get your child ready to celebrate the
sacrament of Confirmation.

Teachers are back to school a week from now, starting on
August 4th. They will spend seven days in workshops and meeting
preparing themselves and their classrooms for the new school year.
This year, the diocese is kicking off the new school year with a
Diocesan All School Mass on Monday, August 11th which will
be followed by a luncheon and guest speaker. Bishop Joe will
be our celebrant along with other Catholic school pastors. The
Mass will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. What
a wonderful way to begin the year, coming together spiritually as
a Catholic School community of educators.
We are still enrolling for the new year. Please call the school
for more information or to set up a tour. Remember, our school
year begins on August 13th!
Have a blessed week!
Mrs. Flanagan
¡Bendiciones!

Decimoséptimo
Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Santa Cruz Church, Buda, Texas
July 26-27, 2014
17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
God has created each of us with gifts treasures like the pearl in today’s Gospel.
How are we being called to give back? We
all have something to give, because God
has been generous with us. Some have
more time, some more talents, some have
more monetary resources. How can you
share what God has given you this week?
Can you be present to someone in need?
Can you look at those who are begging
on street corners? How can you share the
treasure of yourself this week?
Julio 26-27-2014
dones? Todos tenemos algo que dar,
porque Dios ha sido generoso con nosotros.
Algunos tienen más tiempo, algunos
más talentos, algunos tienen recursos
monetarios ¿Cómo puede usted compartir

Unaccompanied Minor Children: Fact Sheet Updated July 14, 2014 •
Since 2011, the United States has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of unaccompanied migrating children arriving at the U.S./Mexico border. These children come from all over the world but predominately from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. •
Whereas in fiscal years 2004-‐2011, the number of unaccompanied children apprehended by the US government averaged around 6,000-‐8,000/year, the total jumped to over 13,000 in 2012 and over 24,000 in 2013. •
The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) initially estimated that about 60,000 unaccompanied minors would enter the United States during 2014. Recent government estimates have been revised, projecting 90,000 child arrivals in 2014 and 130,000 in 2015. •
ORR provides new populations with the opportunity to maximize their potential in the United States. The programs provide people in need with critical resources to assist them in becoming integrated members of American society. •
Reasons these minors have come to the United States include, but are not limited to, the following: o To escape violence, abuse or persecution in their home countries o To find family members already residing in the United States o Were brought into the United States by human trafficking rings •
The children are being held in Customs and Border Protection detention facilities until they can be processed and accepted into temporary living shelters. •
ORR oversees 94 permanent shelters around the country and three emergency shelters which provide for the children's basic needs, including shelter, food, and medical attention, while trying to identify responsible family members in the United States to whom the children can be released. •
Current law permits unaccompanied children to remain in the country until their request for asylum or immigration relief is considered by an immigration judge (does not apply to children from Canada or Mexico). •
85% of unaccompanied children are reconnected with family in the United States. Those not connected with family go to one of 20 Unaccompanied Refugee Minors programs around the nation. •
Those families seeking asylum or immigration relief will need immigration legal services from immigration attorneys or BIA (Board of Immigration Appeals) accredited representatives. For more information, visit: www.ccctx.org/unaccompaniedminors After the christening of his baby
brother in church, Jason sobbed all
the way home in the back seat of
the car. His father asked him three
times what was wrong. Finally, the
boy replied, “That preacher said he
wanted us brought up in a Christian
home, and I wanted to stay with you
guys.”
