Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish Cristo, el Buen Pastor 633 Porter Avenue • Campbell, Ohio 44405 • (330.755.4141) (330)755-3633 (Español) (330)755-1367 (fax) • The Mission of Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish is to celebrate the Sacraments, share our heritage and traditions, and support one another in living and sharing our faith in this community and throughout the world. 20th Ordinary Sunday August 16, 2015 AT THE TABLE In today’s first reading, Wisdom is imagined as a woman rich in poise and grace. She moves smoothly and confidently about her temple like home. She doesn’t flutter about, nervous with worry. Wisdom sends her maidens to invite all to her open house. The guests do not possess any particular genius or insight. They need only be a people of good will and common sense. They are summoned to leave behind foolishness and to find for themselves a place at Wisdom’s table. There they may and can eat and drink deeply. Today’s Gospel draws us back to the table of the Eucharist. Jesus addresses those who seek to understand his words and, sadly, those who seek to avoid them. As people born of God, we are called and equipped to seek God’s will and act on it. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. So, next Sunday, after the Noon Mass we will celebrate in honor of Sta. Rosa de Lima. I look forward to the celebration. I hope many of you can attend! August 15th is the feast of the Assumption. I would like to offer a short reflection on the Blessed Virgin Mary. In Scripture, Mary is usually referred to as “the mother of Jesus”, and although this may not be the most common way to call upon her now, it does reveal a fundamental truth—Mary is always a theological figure. That is, every reference to Mary necessarily includes a reference to God and His action in her life. A brief “biography” of Mary might be useful. Much of what we know comes from tradition; so, according to tradition Mary was born in Jerusalem, before moving to Nazareth. She was married to Joseph; she gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem, and returned to Nazareth (with stops in Jerusalem and Egypt). She followed Jesus during his public ministry, and was at the Crucifixion. She was then cared for by the “beloved disciple”, John. They apparently spent some time in Ephesus (present-day Turkey), but, with or without him, Mary returned to Jerusalem. One site is Jerusalem is called Dormition Abbey; the tradition being that Mary shared completely in the sufferings of her Son, including death. So, she experienced death before being assumed body and soul into heaven. Another tradition suggests that she was simply assumed into heaven body and soul, without tasting death. Of course, with the Assumption and Coronation, Mary’s biography really begins, because now she can truly be who she is. Mary is the New Eve, the Mother of all the living—she is ever involved in the development and growth of the Body of Christ, the Church, each of us. She is often called “Our Mother”. Through the course of our history, we have identified Mary as the Mother of God—a corollary to the truth of Jesus’ divinity; the Immaculate Conception—already sharing in the redemptive act of Jesus, Mary is preserved from original sin; and, as assumed into Heaven—she already shares in the fulfillment of the promises given to us by God. And, all of this explains why we honor her the way we do. God bless you, Fr. Que Dios te bendiga, Padre Conoboy 20TH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME - AUGUST 16, 2015 • 3 Memorial Flames at St. Joseph the Provider The Rosary is prayed 1/2 hour before Mass. Siffrin wrote: Annulment Process After consultation with the Priests Council and the Tribunal, Bishop Murry has decided to eliminate all fees for the annulment process effective immediately. This decision is one step in the implementation of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan, “Trusting in Christ: A Call to Discipleship” making access to the annulment process less burdensome. Up to now, the Diocese has subsidized the annulment process for anyone who approaches the Tribunal. Even though we requested fees, if anyone were unable to pay the fees, they were waived. With the elimination of fees, it is hoped that anyone who may have been reluctant to approach the Tribunal will now feel welcome to submit their case. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Tribunal.
