words, frequency vocabulary, nationalities, adjectives,
ser, and present tense verbs

Weeks 3-4 (1A and 1B)
Communication: Review of school vocabulary and irregular yo
verbs. Classroom objects, stem-changing verbs, free time
vocabulary, ir + a + infinitive, saber/conocer, extracurricular
activities, and hace + time expressions.
Cultures: Simón Silva, José Martí, grading system in México,
Antonio Berni, popular sports, Fernando Botero, Celia Cruz,
types of dances, and San Miguel de Allende
Connections: José Martí literature, education in U.S. and
Spanish-speaking countries, coats of arms, extracurricular

Reflexive verbs, special event vocabulary, describe
people and things, express possession, describe
clothing and fashion, preterite, shopping vocabulary,
demonstrative adjectives, and using adjectives as
nouns
