This is a quote from William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” and has often been used on various occasions. It seemed appropriate to use it at this time especially since my time at the parish is quickly coming to an end. Next weekend, I will be in Davenport, IA to attend the priesthood ordination of a friend of mine. From June 17 until the end of the month, I will be in Greece with several family members. Both of these trips were planned well before the decision was made to be transferred and allow the Franciscans to come to the parish. As I had announced a couple of weeks ago, this means that Sunday, June 12th will be my last Sunday Masses here at the parish. I will be in the rectory and taking the weekday Masses until June 16th before I leave for Greece. As that date draws closer, the words of Shakespeare become even more true, “Parting is such sweet sorrow.” It is unavoidable that we must all go our separate ways for various reasons. Yet, it is consoling to remember that, as members of the one Church, we continue to travel together on the spiritual journey. On that journey to heaven, we never walk alone and we never are separated from one another. In that sense, there is never “farewell” but only, “let us walk together.” So, we will still journey together in spirit if not in reality. Padre Tirso Villaverde, Jr. Fr. We have permission to walk in the street (except along Lawrence Ave.). Parishioners are asked to remain as close together as possible. We will stop at every intersection where various parishioners will sing a song which will end with a prayer before continuing with the procession. The procession will return to church where we will end our prayer with Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament. We will then proceed downstairs to the parish hall for light refreshments. ¡NO SE OLVIDEN NUESTRO CENTENARIO! DON’T FORGET OUR 100TH ANNIVERSARY!
