Pastoral Reflection
Reflexión Pastoral
Reflecting on God's Word
Reflexionemos sobre la Palabra de Dios
The Beatitudes can certainly seem illogical and absurd unless we consider the person
who is speaking. It is Jesus, the one who became "lowly and despised" in order to become "our righteousness, our sanctification,
and our redemption." He personified the
anawim to become the true hope of all people. Jesus is the insulted, persecuted one who
relies on God alone; he is also the merciful
peacemaker and source of all blessing.
To the poor, the mourning, the persecuted,
Jesus says, "Everything that you are suffering, I have suffered. God did not abandon
me and I will not abandon you."
To the rich, the powerful, the content, Jesus says, "I shared every blessing I had with
the poor and the lowly, even my life. Do the
same and you too will know God's saving
mercy." To both Jesus says, "Trust in the
Lord of infinite possibilities, who will bless
you with courage and peace and true joy together."
--Virginia Stillwell
Él personificó a

Living God's Word
The circle of blessing pivots on trust in God. The
Christian community that embraces lowliness will
be a place of blessing both here and in eternity. All
we really need do is to follow our illogical leader,
Jesus, the One whose trust in God brought blessing
to the whole world.

DID YOU KNOW?
Be aware of hints provided by abused children
Although it has been widely researched that many children do not disclose abuse to anyone until they are adults,
researchers have discovered that some children send out
“test balloons” to see how their information will be received before they fully disclose. An example of a child’s
“test balloon” would be the sudden questioning if “I have
to go to uncle’s?” when their parents are getting ready to
leave for the evening and will leave the child under the
uncle’s care. In every case, the child is looking for a response from parents that indicate an opening for further
discussion. As a guardian, be aware of these hints from
children. For a copy of the article, “The right reaction can
make a difference”, email: [email protected].
