others in the case of overlapping or schedule problems.

look for study plans, academic advisors or tutors and full information regarding the Faculty of Engineering.
Facultad de Medicina FM (Faculty of Medicine FM):
Starting in the Fall 2012 (August – December) FM will follow the schedule/calendar set by DGECI – OFI.
For exchange places, only applications from students with a minimum GPA of 9.0 or its equivalent will be
processed. Those students from institutions with cooperation agreements, and whose GPA is between 8.5
and 9.0 or its equivalent can submit application as visiting students, if accepted, they will pay all
corresponding academic fees ($250 USD for enrollment per semester and $275 USD for each subject).
Bachelor in Basic Biomedical Research
Applications with a mixed scheme of theoretical subjects and research activities will be processed. Not all
subjects are offered for every semester; applications will be processed and the candidates will be notified
regarding availability.
Medicine
To apply, students must be enrolled in a medical school or faculty registered in the International Medical
Education Directory (IMED) of the Foundation for Advancement of Medical Education and Research
(FAIMER). (Students from USA or Canada must be enrolled in a school of medicine accredited by LCME or
AACOM, and provide transcript of USMLE Step 1 with passing grade, as well as proof of completion of
training in prevention of blood-borne pathogen transmission, as specified by OSHA).
Each 4 week period per clerkship is equivalent to one subject. The minimum to enroll is one period (4
weeks), and the maximum is 6 (one full semester).
Regarding available subjects, FM offers:
a) To enroll for the full 4th year of the medical curriculum (for this particular option, the total number of places is 4). The
academic year begins the first days of January and ends by the end of November.
b) To enroll for the full undergraduate medical internship, with the exact sub-internships included (6 sub-internships, 2
months each, in: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Family Medicine)
with night calls every 3 to 4 days, depending on the hospital (average of 80-100 hour per week). The internship begins on
January 1, and ends on December 31, with two 2 week vacation periods. If full internship is not completed, or different
clerkships from the 6 included are requested, the stay will not be accredited as “internship”, but as “clinical clerkships”
see next subsection
c) Clinical Clerkships (equivalent to “clinical electives”; not subjects with a class/lecture format) of variable duration, to be
specified by the student and/or his/her institution of origin; it is requested that candidates propose a list of first and second
choices for each period. According to specific clerkships requested and acceptance by tutors at the different teaching
hospitals, candidates will be notified about availability.
d) Research clerkships, regarding duration, the same applies as for clinical clerkships. * If a student applies to a basic
research clerkships, some tutors will waive the Spanish proficiency requirement, if the candidate has proficiency in English.
For clinical research clerkships, proficiency in Spanish is required.
Restrictions about the number of subjects:
For option a) All subjects and clerkships for fourth year must be enrolled.
For option b) Undergraduate Medical Internship is one full-time subject, equivalent to 82 credits; no other subjects/clerkships
can be enrolled.
For option c) The minimum to enroll is a 4 week period, the maximum 6 months. The duration of each clerkship is open,
however, regarding costs (for visiting students) 4 weeks correspond to one period or subject, i.e., even if a student remains
in the same service/clerkship for 6 months, e.g. Cardiology, 6 payments of $275 USD must be made – one for each 4
weeks-.
For option d) Same as for option c).
Notes:
- Once a clerkship and teaching hospital has been assigned, FM will not allow any changes.
- For the Undergraduate Medical Internship, some hospitals require that the student begins introduction activities in
December (prior to the beginning of the academic year).
- The only clerkship that is not offered is “Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery” (applications for this clerkship will not be
processed).
- For clinical clerkships, it is not necessary to complete a full semester; neither is it necessary for the beginning and/or end
of activities to coincide with the calendar set by DGECI-OFI for the academic term/semester, since FM has its own calendar
(a flexible one) for clinical activities at the different teaching hospitals.
- Students will not be allowed to enroll subjects simultaneously at another Faculty, School, or Center.
- All academic activities offered by the FM are full time.
