Maximum 15 minute duration. For the first part of the application process, please send it in Format MP4 via e-mail. A CD or DVD must be sent attached to the original application papers afterwards. Facultad de Arquitectura FA: A Portfolio of Work in digital format is required for the undergraduate programs offered by this Faculty. This must be sent electronically via e-mail and a CD or DVD is to be attached to original application papers. Facultad de Derecho FD: From three (3) to seven (7) courses or subjects per semester can be selected. Facultad de Ingeniería FI: A minimum average mark of 8.0 (or equivalent) is required for applications. Facultad de Medicina FM (Faculty of Medicine FM): Starting in the Fall 2012 (August – December) FM will follow the schedule/calendar set by DGECI – OFI. For exchange places, only applications from students with a minimum GPA of 9.0 or its equivalent will be processed. Those students from institutions with cooperation agreements, and whose GPA is between 8.5 and 9.0 or its equivalent can submit application as visiting students, if accepted, they will pay all corresponding academic fees ($250 USD for enrollment per semester and $275 USD for each subject). Bachelor in Basic Biomedical Research Applications with a mixed scheme of theoretical subjects and research activities will be processed. Not all subjects are offered for every semester; applications will be processed and the candidates will be notified regarding availability. Medicine To apply, students must be enrolled in a medical school or faculty registered in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) of the Foundation for Advancement of Medical Education and Research (FAIMER). (Students from USA or Canada must be enrolled in a school of medicine accredited by LCME or AACOM, and provide transcript of USMLE Step 1 with passing grade, as well as proof of completion of training in prevention of blood-borne pathogen transmission, as specified by OSHA). Each 4 week period per clerkship is equivalent to one subject. The minimum to enroll is one period (4 weeks), and the maximum is 6 (one full semester). Regarding available subjects, FM offers: a) To enroll for the full 4th year of the medical curriculum (for this particular option, the total number of places is 4). The academic year begins the first days of January and ends by the end of November. b) To enroll for the full undergraduate medical internship, with the exact sub-internships included (6 sub-internships, 2 months each, in: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Family Medicine) with night calls every 3 to 4 days, depending on the hospital (average of 80-100 hour per week). The internship begins on January 1, and ends on December 31, with two 2 week vacation periods. If full internship is not completed, or different clerkships from the 6 included are requested, the stay will not be accredited as “internship”, but as “clinical clerkships” see next subsection c) Clinical Clerkships (equivalent to “clinical electives”; not subjects with a class/lecture format) of variable duration, to be specified by the student and/or his/her institution of origin; it is requested that candidates propose a list of first and second choices for each period. According to specific clerkships requested and acceptance by tutors at the different teaching hospitals, candidates will be notified about availability. d) Research clerkships, regarding duration, the same applies as for clinical clerkships. * If a student applies to a basic research clerkships, some tutors will waive the Spanish proficiency requirement, if the candidate has proficiency in English. For clinical research clerkships, proficiency in Spanish is required. Restrictions about the number of subjects: For option a) All subjects and clerkships for fourth year must be enrolled. For option b) Undergraduate Medical Internship is one full-time subject, equivalent to 82 credits; no other subjects/clerkships can be enrolled. For option c) The minimum to enroll is a 4 week period, the maximum 6 months. The duration of each clerkship is open, however, regarding costs (for visiting students) 4 weeks correspond to one period or subject, i.e., even if a student remains in the same service/clerkship for 6 months, e.g. Cardiology, 6 payments of $275 USD must be made – one for each 4 weeks-. For option d) Same as for option c). Notes: - Once a clerkship and teaching hospital has been assigned, FM will not allow any changes. - For the Undergraduate Medical Internship, some hospitals require that the student begins introduction activities in December (prior to the beginning of the academic year). - The only clerkship that is not offered is “Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery” (applications for this clerkship will not be processed). - For clinical clerkships, it is not necessary to complete a full semester; neither is it necessary for the beginning and/or end of activities to coincide with the calendar set by DGECI-OFI for the academic term/semester, since FM has its own calendar (a flexible one) for clinical activities at the different teaching hospitals. - Students will not be allowed to enroll subjects simultaneously at another Faculty, School, or Center. - All academic activities offered by the FM are full time. Student must comment about three top areas he/she is interested in so that additional activities can be planned apart from the normal academic courses, at the Postgraduate and Research Division of Higher Studies. Facultad de Psicología FP: A letter of intention – in Spanish - addressed to Dra. Cecilia Silva, Chief of Professional Studies Division that includes: Academic purposes. Knowledge of the FP from UNAM. Academic Development. Self auto description; Impact of the mobility experience in UNAM for the future. FES Cuautitlán: Undergraduate Program in Design and Visual Communication - Portfolio of Work to be sent in electronic format. All courses are taught in Spanish Preparatory course Optional: Foreign students interested in brushing up their Spanish language skills are welcome to participate in the six week Spanish Language and Mexican Culture courses offered by the CEPE (Centro de Enseñanza para Extranjeros www.cepe.unam.mx ) - either during Summer or Winter –. Ask for possible 50% discount in tuition only. The Office of International Programs is always willing to give advises about rates, areas and contacts. What is the approximate cost of accommodation per month? $ 3,500.00 - $ 4,000.00 MXN per month (monthly fee may include electricity, water, gas and internet expenses) $ 340 USD approx. (Considering 12MXN=1USD) Access to the Central Library To access the services offered by the Central Library in the University City, students must have UNAM‟s ID and make a deposit of $ 500.00 (MX), Fees: $ 20.00 MX (Mexican pesos) fee - official student ID (per semester) $ 669.00 MX (Mexican pesos) fee – Foreigners‟ List Registration in the Instituto Nacional de Migración. Both are mandatory. UNAM offers a variety of cultural and recreation activities of which exchange student can take part. Application form with photography 2. Nomination Letter given by the university, in original* 3. A letter explaining the reasons for studying at UNAM (letter of intention), original in Spanish 4. Official Transcript in original including general average * 5. A list of the subjects taken during the semester previous to mobility* 6. Two letters of recommendation, in original (pe written by the dean, a professor, teacher, project‟s coordinator) translated to Spanish by an official translator* 7. A copy of valid passport 8. Documents proving an advanced level of Spanish, equivalent to level B2 of the Common European framework for languages. 9. Three photographs (2.5 x 3.0 cm) identical, in color and recent Note: documents have to be translated into Spanish. Translation can be provided by the home institution (pe. Signed by the Language Department) * If student is accepted: 10. A letter of compromise stating that the student will acquire a medical and travel insurance valid in Mexico during the length of the mobility program (length of stay in Mexico) in Spanish, with a coverage of 100,000USD, insurance must include minor and mayor coverage and repatriation of remains. 11. Health/Medical History form Minimum General Academic Point Average Required: For most of the undergraduate programs: 8.5 (eight point five) or equivalent. Grading system at UNAM is a linear scale that goes from 10 (ten) to 5 (five), in which 10 is the highest grade (excellent, the best) and 6 the minimum to approve a course, and 5 is failure. For the Faculty of Engineering: 8.0 (eight point cero) For the Facultad de Medicina please check in the Special requirements. Insurance Mandatory for all foreign students The Medical and Travel Insurance Policy must be valid during the complete length of stay in Mexico; must have a minimum of 100,000.00USD coverage. Including (at least): accidents, repatriation of remains, medical assistance and mayor health expenses. Prior departure from home land all students are required to learn how to use their medical and travel insurance policy in case of any emergency occurs. We require a translation to Spanish of the medical insurance policy (at least first page). When a student receives the letter of acceptance is time to obtain the student‟s visa in the closest Mexican Consulate: www.sre.gob.mx (Representaciones) MIGRATION POLICIES FOR STUDENTS www.inm.gob.mx For registration: http://www.inm.gob.mx/index/.php/page/Solicitud_de_Estancia Visa and migration policies for foreign students Foreign students must obtain a student entry visa for the Mexican Republic issued by the National Immigration Institute (Instituto Nacional de Migración or INM). To obtain the visa, students must file an application at least 60 days prior to the date of their entry to Mexico, at the Mexican Consulate in their country. The documents that must be submitted to obtain the permit are: Certificate of economic solvency. If the applicant was awarded a scholarship, it must be legalized by the Mexican Consulate in the city where the issuing institution is located. Copy of the applicant‟s valid passport. If accompanied by family, spouse and children, the applicant must submit marriage and birth certificates duly legalized by the Mexican Consulate. Specify the Mexican Consulate in which the applicant will file an application for the migration documents that will grant him/her access to the country. *If the entry procedure is not completed in advance, Mexican Consulates may postpone the entry. All accepted foreign students must travel/enter Mexico with a student‟s visa; from the day of arrival they have a 30 day (natural days) period to attend the Instituto Nacional de Migración –INM- to subscribe in the „Registro Nacional de Extranjeros‟ (National Registry of Foreigners) , for this purpose requisites are: - Valid passport Duty payment ($ 669.00MX) original and two copies Forma migratoria multiple (FNM) in original and two copies – obtained and sealed at the Mexican airport the day of arrival- After proper registration the students must provide a copy to OFI of the FNM form with number given by the Instituto Nacional de Migración. Extended participation in the mobility program Students interested in continuing their participation in the mobility program for another semester (maximum length of mobility is two semesters) have to consult with their home institution and with the Faculty/School at UNAM if there is a spare place for either an exchange or a visiting student. Requisites: New letter of intention New mobility application signed by the student and the person in charge at the home institution.
