Students celebrate graduation milestone with friends, teachers, and administrators

“The Sky’s the Limit” at the Migrant Education
Program Graduation Summit 2016
On the evening of April 22th, migrant graduating seniors were honored for their hard work and
achievements. Students celebrated the end of one the most important chapters of their life.
They listened to advice from keynote speaker Danny Diaz from the inspirational movie about
the success of a group of migrant students, McFarland USA, while they enjoyed an appetizing
dinner. The top exemplary students from all Region 19 districts were recognized with a special
gift. Sergio Nogami, from Chapin High School, was recognized as the exemplary student from
El Paso ISD as well as the Salutatorian of the migrant student class of 2016. Other recognized
students were Susana Ramirez from Anthony ISD, Johanna Hernandez from Clint ISD,
Paulina Ledezma from Ysleta ISD, and Santiago Muñoz from Fort Hancock ISD. Students had
the opportunity to dress with their colorful caps and gowns to have their graduation pictures
taken for a keepsake of the special evening.
En la tarde del 22 de abril, los estudiantes migrantes graduandos de preparatoria fueron
reconocidos por sus logros y arduo trabajo. Los estudiantes celebraron el final de una de las
facetas mas importantes de su vida. Ellos recibieron consejos del orador principal Danny
Diaz de la pelicula McFarland USA, que se enfoca en la vida y logros de estudiantes
migrantes, mientras disfrutaban de una agradable cena. Se les hizo un reconocimiento a los
estudiantes mas sobresalientes de todos los distritos de Region 19 con un regalo especial.
Sergio Nogami de Chapin High School fue reconocido como el estudiante ejemplar del
distrito de El Paso, y tambien fue acreditado como el Salutatorian de la clase de estudiantes
migrantes del 2016. Los otros estudiantes que recibieron reconocimiento fueron Susana
Ramirez del distrito de Anthony, Johanna Hernandez del distrito de Clint, Paulina Ledezma
del distrito de Ysleta, y Santiago Muñoz del distrito de Fort Hancock. Los estudiantes tuvieron
la oportunidad de vestirse con sus coloridas togas y birretes para tomarse su fotografía de
graduación como recuerdo de este evento tan especial.
IntelliZeum Career Visit

Migrant pre-school children visited the IntelliZeum, an ESC-R19 Head Start learning
facility, on April 6th. The facility took them on an interactive adventure showcasing various
career options, from becoming a medical doctor, to becoming an astronaut.
Niños migrantes de edad pre-escolar visitaron el IntelliZeum, del programa de Head Start
de ESC-R19, el 6 de abril. El establecimiento los llevó en una aventura interactiva,
mostrándoles varias oportunidades de carreras académicas tales como ser un médico o un
astronauta.

Students Attend Day of Educational Camps and Workshops
The Migrant Education Program held a successful day of
academic instruction on March 19 for various grade levels.
Among the workshops offered, there was a Graphing
Calculator class, an Algebra camp, English I and II and
Reading classes, a Fun with Math! camp, and a Science camp.
Also, a group of 8th grade students participated in a Social
Studies camp on this day of intense studying and preparation.

El programa de educación para migrantes ofreció un dia de
instrucción académica el 19 de marzo para estudiantes de varios
grados. Se ofreció una clase de calculadora gráfica, una sesión de
Algebra, clases de Inglés I y II y Lectura, un campamento de
Diversión con Matemáticas!, y un campamento de Ciencias Naturales.
Además, un grupo de estudiantes de 8º grado participaron en un
campamento de ciencias sociales en este dia de intenso estudio y
preparación.

University Tour Summit, Austin and San Antonio, Texas
A group of high school students visited three universities in Austin and San Antonio, Texas from June
27th through June 30th, to explore various higher education opportunities available for them. The
students became informed of the process to attend the University of Texas at Austin, St. Edward’s
University, and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Students visited and toured St. Edward’s
University where they attended an informational session on the College Assistance Migrant Program
(CAMP). Students also visited the University of Texas at Austin where they witnessed firsthand what
life on campus is like. Additionally, they visited important historical sites such as the Alamo and the
Texas State Capitol.
Un grupo de estudiantes de preparatoria visitaron tres universidades en Austin y San Antonio, Texas
del 27 al 30 de junio, para obtener información acerca de oportunidades universitarias.
Administradores de las universidades ofrecieron presentaciones sobre el proceso de ingresar a la
Universidad de Texas en Austin, la Universidad de St. Edward’s, y la Universidad de Texas en San
Antonio. Los estudiantes exploraron la Universidad de St. Edward’s, en la cual asistieron a una
platica acerca de la organización de Asistencia Universitaria para el Programa Migrante (CAMP). El
grupo de estudiantes tambien visitaron la Universidad de Texas en Austin para obtener información y
observar como es la vida universitaria. Además, los estudiantes visitaron importantes sitios históricos
como el Alamo y el Capitolio del estado de Texas.
Summer Program
The Migrant Education Program administered an extensive summer program during the month of June
covering several school subjects for pre-school children and students in Kindergarten through 8 th
grades. The El Paso Zoo Camp, Robotics, Science and Math, Texas Success Initiative, and Little
Picassos were among the programs offered.
El Programa de Educación para Migrantes ofreció un extenso programa de verano durante el mes de
junio que abarcó varias materias escolares para niños de pre-escolar y estudiantes de Kinder hasta 8º
grados. El campamento de el Zoológico de El Paso, Robótica, Ciencias naturales y Matemáticas,
Iniciativa de Éxito de Texas, y Pequeños Picassos fueron algunos de los programas disponibles.
