Family Fest Weekend - St Stephen Protomartyr
St. Stephen Protomartyr Church Des Plaines, IL www.ststephendp.org Tel. 847-824-2026 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ August 2, 2015 Family Fest Weekend First Friday Adoration & Evening Prayer August 7, 2015 3-7pm Primer Viernes de Adoración y Oración de la Tarde 7 de Agosto del 2015 3-7pm Decimoctavo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario ~ 2 de agosto del 2015 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Friends and Parishioners, Peace and blessings from the Lord! Thank you all for being with us this weekend for our annual Family Fest. It is always inspiring to see how our volunteers worked together to provide us with an opportunity to have a good time together, with our families, in the middle of summer. I certainly commend having parish activities that would bring us the possibility of knowing each other. I am thankful to the effort of our Parish Council as well as the Fundraising Committee for the activities that they initiated in the parish. I believe that the more activities we have, the more our interaction will be empowered, especially for the ones who always choose to participate. In fact, the strength of a parish community comes from the willingness of each member to interact with other parish members, so as to build a much stronger communal foundation. The dinners hosted by the Culinaires during the entire year encourages us also to appreciate the spirit of service that each extends to the parish. I just mean to emphasize the fact that our gathering outside the celebration of the Mass, allows us to experience the intention of Jesus in establishing His church. I mentioned in a previous bulletin issue that we will have another big parish event during the month of October. This year will be our First Annual Testimonial Dinner. The purpose of the event is twofold. First, we would like to acknowledge our parishioners who best represent their parish ministry. The Parish Council and the ministry members will be primarily involved to choose the recipient of the Award through several deliberations. The criteria will be similar to the Archdiocesan selection of the lay faithful recognition. Second, our First Annual Testimonial Dinner will be a ticketed event which aims at raising funds for the refurbishment of the church sound system. I am aware that many of you commented that our system is not audible enough, especially for some of our elderly who have difficulty hearing. It is important that our sound system properly transmits the word of the Scriptures each time we pray together in the liturgy. So please save the date on October 30th. You will hear the announcements before the Mass during the coming weekends. There will be various people in church who may approach you asking to help us sell our tickets. I encourage our families to plan on attending. The success of this event depends on the support of everyone. I am hopeful that we would put our effort together towards the achievement of our goal. I wish you a blessed week. In Christ and Mary, Fr. This is my moment. I slowly take a deep breath before I start to explain that I agree going to church is really important, but we also need to show God that we care enough to wear something that is reverent. The term "Sunday's Best" has really grown to mean so many different things to so many different people. I believe - and I hope I'm not alone - that everyone of all ages should dress for the occasion. Of course, some of us are going to or coming from work or a sporting event and just making it to mass is a feat in and of itself, but for many of us we can take a few minutes to put on something that is respectable - a nice pair of pants, a collared shirt, a skirt, or dress. When we take the time to look nice for God, it says to Him that we think the celebration of the mass is something pretty special. Beth Stauder Family Faith Formation
