As you may have heard, Arizona is among a group of leading states that are in the Partnership for Assessment of
Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) Consortium. As a member state, our educators are helping to develop
next-generation, computer-based tests in math, reading, and writing that are of exceptional quality and will
measure students’ content knowledge and key skills, such as their ability to think critically, solve problems, and
use information from what they read to write well-developed essays.
This spring, PARCC will be conducting field tests around the country. Many of Arizona’s schools have agreed to
be involved in this important process. Most students participating in the field test will only take one part of the
whole assessment in one content area to minimize time taken from the classroom for individual students and
schools. This is a chance for those developing the assessment to “test the test” and to make sure the tablets,
laptops and desktop computers most students will use for the test work properly. Students will get a chance to
engage in challenging math or English problems and writing exercises, but since the focus of the field test is not
on measuring student achievement, no student scores will be provided. By taking part in the field tests, teachers
and students will play an important role in the development of next-generation, innovative tests.
Teachers and principals throughout the state are looking forward to this opportunity to become more familiar
with a new assessment, which is aligned to Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards.

Como usted puede haber oído, Arizona está entre un grupo de Estados principales que se encuentran en la

Estado miembro, nuestros educadores están ayudando a desarrollar pruebas de próxima generación, basados en

conocimiento de los estudiantes del contenido y competencias clave, tales como su capacidad de pensar
críticamente, resolver problemas, y utilizar la información de lo que leen para escribir ensayos bien
desarrollados.
Esta primavera, PARCC llevará a cabo pruebas de campo por todo el país. Muchas de las escuelas de Arizona han
accedido a participar en este importante proceso. La mayoría de los estudiantes que participan en la prueba de
campo, sólo tomarán una parte de toda la evaluación en un área de contenido, para minimizar el tiempo del salón
de clase tomado individualmente por los estudiantes y las escuelas. Esta es una oportunidad para aquellos que
desarrollan la evaluación para "examinar la prueba" y asegurarse de que las tabletas, las computadoras de
escritorio y portátiles, que la mayoría de los estudiantes utilizarán funcionen correctamente. Los estudiantes
tendrán la oportunidad de participar en desafiantes problemas de inglés o matemáticas y de ejercicios de

puntuaciones del estudiante. Por tomar parte en las pruebas de campo, los profesores y estudiantes jugarán un
