Angara said that the victory of the Team PNoy in the May senatorial election would result in the writing of the “most comprehensive and most ambitious“ legislative agenda on education. He said the P40 billiona-year conditional cash transfer program should be reformatted to include the funding of one college scholarship per family of the families enrolled in the CCT program. Education and health care are the primary mandates of the CCT, said Angara, and raising the bar of the programs to include one college scholarship per fam- ily would not even alter the basic agenda of the CCT program. Angara said that the lowincome groups outside of the CCT can be funded by an Expanded Study-Now-Pay-Later Program, which will put up a money pool that will be loaned out to poor students at cheap interest rates and at easy repayment terms. Angara has filed one such bill with Congress, and he hopes that the legislature FLIGHT SCHEDULE Clark International Airport MONDAY OPERATOR AIR ASIA JIN AIR SEAIR SEAIR AIR ASIA SEAIR CEBU PACIFIC AIR ASIA DRAGONAIR CEBU PACIFIC AIR ASIA AIR ASIA SEAIR AIRPHIL AIR ASIA SEAIR AIR ASIA CEBU PACIFIC SEAIR CEBU PACIFIC AIR ASIA ZESTAIR CEBU PACIFIC ASIANA FLIGHT NO. Lilia Pineda promised to give an irrigation pump designed to get water from the Pampanga river. Pineda said the farmers and their leaders asked her to help in irrigating their farmlands, most of of which are for rice production. She met them in a meeting in Barangay Sta. Monica, here on Friday. Pineda said the farmers need water supply to ensure “a bountiful palay harvest three times a year.” Among the major producers of rice in San Simon is Barangay Concepcion, which has some 800 hectares of land for rice production. The village is one of the five villages belonging to “Pampanga’s rice granary.” “The governor is helping a lot the Pampanga farmers,” said Nestor Macapagal, chairman of the Pampanga Agriculture Fishery Council (PAFC). PAFC is the umbrella organization of farmers and fishermen in all of the 18 towns of Pampanga. He made the comment after being asked if the governor had helped “enough” the more than 32,000 farmers of Pampanga. Macapagal said Pineda had given various equipment to their members and other support. He noted that this kind of program was successfully implemented during the time of then Secretary of Health and former Senator Juan Flavier, where he took the lead, set targets and standards and communicated efficiently the program down to the ordinary folks living in remote areas. Most childhood ailments like diphtheria, cholera, German measles and hepatitis are highly infectious and rapidly spread ZUBIRI PagE 7 OPERATOR FLIGHT NO. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin are into a new level of “proxy war.” Over the past few months since the unofficial and official campaign period kicked-off, the two have figured in an ugly exchange of blows and counter-attacks. The word war does not, in any way, mirror a close friendship between the two candidates in the past. At first, the main proponents--or opponents--themselves are joining the imbroglio but then they thought that it was better if someone from their respective camps do the talking while the candidates do the campaigning. They may have learned that craft from mutual friend, Mayor Marino Morales of Mabalacat, perhaps. The two camps did not come short of verbal arsenal against each other, oftentimes using their respective pawns in hopes of forcing a stalemate for the easy win. Lately, the Lazatin camp was even accused of using another “proxy” for the congressman not just for talking but also for house-to-house campaigning. It was claimed that where the “real” Tarzan cannot go, the look-alike could and would. Nobody knows what the real purpose of the look-alike was when he was seen shaking hands with residents alongside members of the Lazatin team. One thing’s for sure, those who are not really familiar with Lazatin would think that the impersonator was actually the congressman they shook hands with. It would immediately give them the perception that the candidate is still physically fit and ready to wage a long-haul campaign. On the other hand, those who know Tarzan would feel cheated especially if they were not given a heads-up that the man was just doing the shaking of hands for fun and not to fool the Angeleno voters. *** Let not only the mind speak. The mind is so powerful that it can instantly kill a bright future that a righteous vote promises and can make the misery that a stupid vote produces even after hundreds of elections have been held. We deserve the kind of leaders that we elect. There is no one to blame in a nation governed by incapacitated and immoral leaders except the electorate who allows to be governed by such kind of leaders because they allow only their minds to speak. *** Agyu nang tacpan ning dacal a cualta ing dinat at deuacan. Kung tama ang aking radikal na kaibigan sa kanyang pananaw tungkol sa botanteng Pinoy ng makabagong panahon, maaari ko naman siyang ayunan sa kanyang opinyon. ‘Yon nga lang bote ng Mompo ang tinutukoy ko. Ewan ko kung anong bote ang balak niyang itapat sa bote at boto ko. • “Unsinkable” Titanic sinks April 15, 1912 The RMS Titanic, billed as unsinkable, sinks into the icy waters of the North Atlantic after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage, killing 1,517 people. The United Kingdom’s White Star Line built the Titanic to be the most luxurious cruise ship in the world. It was nearly 900 feet long and more than 100 feet high. The Titanic could reach speeds of 30 knots and was thought to be the world’s fastest ship. With its individualized watertight compartments, it was seen as virtually unsinkable. On its first voyage, from Southampton, England, to New York with stops in Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland, the Titanic was carrying 2,206 people, including a crew of 898. As per early reports, the victims were about to cross the river to get into the opposite side when the boat they were into was suddenly filled with water. *** It was a new day of grief for the families of other drowning victims who senselessly died at the Pampanga River. I surmise that the latest victims have no swimming skills or if otherwise, were enveloped with panic. *** According to Shahani, it’s quite ironic that while we have lots of bodies of water in and around our communities, we have no water survival skills or just even basic swimming skills to cope up with our fluvial environments. Many Filipinos drown even in mere floodwaters, in swimming pools and in beach resorts. White Star President Bruce Ismay jumped onto the last lifeboat though there were women and children still waiting to board. At 2:20 a.m., the Titanic finally sank. Breaking in half, it plunged downward to the sea floor. Captain Edward Smith went down with the ship. The Carpathia arrived about an hour later and rescued the 705 people who made it onto the lifeboats. The people who were forced into the cold waters all perished. Official blame for the tragedy was placed on the captain and bridge crew, all of whom had died. In the wake of the accident, significant safety-improvement measures were established, including a requirement that the number of lifeboats on board a ship reflect the entire number of passengers. The sinking of the Titanic has become a legendary story about the dangers of hubris. In 1985, after many attempts over many years, divers were finally able to locate the wreckage of the Titanic on the floor of the North Atlantic.-HISTORY IWRITE Page 7 Ditak Mung Amanu Ka Dencio Pacheco Ating kandidatu Atin kung metung kakilalang kandidatu Ala ne mang agawa minunang terminu Ngeni tatagal ne naman pu kanu Para panatilyan kayang ikwang puwestu Nung keng bulsa sadya yang makapal Makanyan mu naman lupa ng pasosyal Bakit mo wari bakit ya kanu miyalal Memudmud kwalta nya yang tatagal Dakal ya pengaku karing botanti Atlung banwa ala mang milyari Gilutan na la gewang alang silbi Susuyuan na no man panaun ta ngeni Makasukal mang lub ing kayang paninap Botanti na ngeni ya namang dakap-dakap Kaybat nang pepaysira ngeni ya gaganap Papabotung pasibayu tsaka ya mamarap Magloku ne naman aliwang tau Mekad ngeni ene lukluk pasibayu Nung e nya manyali karen kayang botu Kaybat na nita mikawakawani na kayu Kareng mikibalu kareng kayang sisti Asisiguradu ku maybug kang mariri Emu ne ibotu abalu mu ngan man iti Nung ena ing botu mu kaya ipisali Right time, wrong company Have you ever been with people who make you feel little less of a person? You, yourself, don’t even know why you’re with them. You develop insecurities and self pity. You lose all the confidence in you, you feel ugly and fat. You feel unwanted. There’s nothing wrong with you, neither with them. But if you feel like everything’s going against your way, perhaps you’re in the wrong lane or should I say you’re with the wrong people. It is in high school that pretty boys and hot girls rule the campus. Yung mga di pansinin, wala, di talaga napansin hanggang mag graduate, minsan nga di ka man nila natandaan na kabatch ka nila. Back then, all of my friends were popular and I was a little left out so all of those dream jobs you think of in high school like being a flight attendant, bank teller or those in the broadcasting or advertising industry, I never dreamed of them. I confined myself with the dream of just working in a descent office with my own computer. When I went to college, I met new set of friends; the kind of friends I grew so much comfortable with. They love music, they play billiards and they’re all humurous. They were the kind of friends I can be myself with. I can laugh so hard and pig out with them without being self-conscious. For the first time in my life, I felt wanted. I felt that my presence mattered, my opinions were heard, my suggestions were considered. There was a hundredeighty-degree turn of events. I don’t remember I changed anything about myself, but there were changes in my environment, there were changes with the people I was hanging out with. Then I started to believe that the people we surround ourselves have a great impact on what we can become and where we’re going. We really have to find people whom we share same interest with: those who understand our feelings and can contribute to our success, whether it be personal or career growth. They are also those who would be genuinely happy for all the decisions we make in our lives, whether they are part of it or not. We have to keep finding those people who can boost our self confidence just when we blew everything away. Pen Talks Aubrey F. Sembrano “For the first time in my life, I felt wanted.” People who are interested with our ideas, see our efforts and appreciate them. You’ll be amazed with how wonderful it is to feel yourself, without being suppressed. Everything falls into place, you rhyme together and there’s a perfect harmony. Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na nagagawa mo yung gusto mo, nae-express mo yung sarili mo without having the need to abide by the norms. “Birds of the same feathers flock together” they say but the challenge here is to find these people and you’ll be surprised with how smooth your sails would be. Life becomes less complicated. Life is a choice, choose the right people you put in your life and let’s see how far you’ll go.• www.printablesudoku99.com Gitnang luzon APRIL 15, 2013 CROSSWORd PUZZle zles.com for hints and solutions! 1 2 3 4 5 6 17 9 10 21 28 24 26 30 31 33 38 43 34 40 39 52 41 45 44 48 35 36 46 47 50 54 53 56 57 58 64 59 62 63 66 67 68 69 70 71 60 F480UM 1. Pineda said that they will push for the establishment of farmers’ trading posts in strategic locations, including at the capital City of San Fernando, to ensure the steady income of farmers and fishermen. “Over the years, the farmers and fisher folk complained that ‘middle men’ earned more than them which should not be the case. The farmers should be the first to be protected,” said Pineda. “We are not removing the opportunities of other stakeholders to earn in farming and fishing. But the producers of the food should earn more from their yield,” she added in the dialect. Pineda said she will also work for the creation of a cold storage facility due to the huge amount of fish production, including tilapia. Pampanga is regarded as the “tilapia capital of the Philippines,” producing some 95,000 metric tons of the fish variety in recent data of the government. There are at least 36,000 fish ponds in the province. Pineda she will aggressively support the province’s 32,697 rice farmers and 5,433 corn farmers and disclosed they will prioritize agriculture for this year. Last Tuesday, five persons drowned when their boat capsized in the river in the vicinity of San Luis. Apalit police Chief Supt. Homer Penecilla said that based on initial investigation, the two girls were convinced by two other male teenagers to take a swimming lesson. Upon reaching the deep end of the river, the male teenagers alleg- edly panicked and let go of the two females who both did not know how to swim. The two male teenagers survived by swimming back to shore. Mandap’s father went hysterical upon seeing the body of his daughter being recovered from the river at around 8 a.m. The girl’s mother, Cecilia, said she was not aware that her daughter went out to swim with friends. The lifeless body of Rufino, on the other hand, was recovered by the rescue teams almost in the same area where Mandap’s body was found at past 12 noon. Rufino’s mother, Emily, likewise said had no knowledge that her daughter went swimming. With this development, the Pampanga Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) is planning to call for an emergency meeting with local officials covering the stretch of Pampanga River to discuss and implement measures that would prevent similar drowning incidents. However, most parents especially those living in the rural areas often forego vaccinations because vaccines are expensive. Likewise, free vaccination is not available all the time,” Zubiri said. “Government agencies should act in sync with one another. Time and precious life are wasted when agencies prevent the regular free vaccination that is recommended by health institutions such as the Health Department and even international ones like the World health Organization (WHO) At the same time, Zubiri said, the government “must set a goal of at least 90 percent of children across the country receive each vaccine recommended to protect them from diseases. This should be increased periodically.” Zubiri added that reaching this goal involves more than giving vaccine--it requires public health activities such as tracking children who are in need of vaccination, educational outreach, and promoting public awareness of the continued importance of vaccination across lifetime. “Parallel to instituting mandatory free immunization, the Health Department should likewise empower the over-burdened barangay health workers and add more personnel to visit the most inaccessible communities to assess children’s medical needs especially an active file of the immunization history individually and per community,” Zubiri said. • Want to broaden your business horizon?
