If you think your child/teen should have gotten a letter and didn’t, please contact the office so we can check. Children need to have participated in Religious Ed in class or completed the homeschool requirements this past school year. New to the parish but your child attended somewhere else last year? We are still looking for a few more volunteers to help with the 10:00 nursery on a rotating basis (1x a month or so). We invite anyone who is 13 or older to consider offering an hour of your time each month to give our parents of these youngsters, the opportunity to sit through mass and not have to fight with an active little one. BSYM Blessed Sacrament Youth Ministry FLOW--Coming this Fall FLOW (Adult Faith Formation) will offer Bishop Robert Barron's "Priest, Prophet, King", a biblically based series. (Fr. Robert was recently chosen as auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles and has been consecrated a bishop) Through this study, you will better understand Jesus, become more familiar with Scripture, and realize your own priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission. This series will start the week of October 11th and run for six consecutive weeks, being offered on Tuesday mornings, Thursday evenings, and Friday mornings. Registration for this program will be held at church after Masses this weekend and Oct. 3-4. There will be a charge for the study guide, payable at the time of registration. Contact Victoria Blackstone if you’re interested. 3 BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH HARRISONBURG, VA JMU CATHOLIC CAMPUS MINISTRY NEWS: This Sunday, September 27th our 9 PM mass will be at the CCM house. Usually 9 pm Mass is in the Highlands Room at the Festival Center, CISAT Campus, but there will be times throughout the year when it will be at CCM House. Watch this space! Many thanks to all those who supported the Food Pantry table at the Parish Fall Bazaar. The donations will help us purchase some needed food items. Special thanks to those volunteers who coordinated the event and staffed the table !! There will be a 20 hour adoration from Thursday, October 1st at 9 PM to Friday, October 2nd at 5 PM with daily mass directly after. On Sunday, October 4th our 11 AM mass will be in the Memorial Hall Auditorium due to parent's weekend. The Food Pantry wishes to also acknowledge our appreciation to anyone who donated food at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank's Stuff the Truck food drive at Martins on Friday, September 18th. Since the Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry is the second largest pantry in the Shenandoah Valley, we will receive a proportionate share of the items donated. YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY Keeping the Fire Alive: Navigating Challenges in the Spiritual Life 6 weeks study, Wednesdays 8-9pm in the library. Please continue to drop off your used, but clean, plastic grocery bags and egg cartons in the carts in the commons area as this helps us defray some costs !! YAM is looking for volunteers! We will be working with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, October 3 in the afternoon at a project site on Virginia Ave. There will be unskilled jobs (painting, landscaping, etc), so experience is not required. If you didn’t have a photo taken, or want extra copies, they may be purchased at $20 per copy. They contain the entire parish roster as well as the photos of those who chose to have a picture made. What is VIRTUS? VIRTUS is a program created by the National Catholic Risk Retention Group in the United States with a "Protecting God's Children" component that combats sexual abuse of children in the Church. It is currently in use in over 80 dioceses in the United States. We also still have some copies of At Home With the Word lectionary based Scripture guide, $8 each, available in the office. VIRTUS focuses on educating teachers, parents, and other adults who interact with children about sexual abuse and providing them with information to help prevent abuse. This takes place in 'awareness sessions' led by trained facilitators. The awareness sessions consist of videos, worksheets, and discussions. The videos incorporate interviews with both victims and convicted perpetrators. VIRTUS is a required element for anyone who plans to become involved in a ministry that comes in contact with children or youth. It is also a great resource for parents and grandparents!!!
