A Word From Our Pastor
THE NARROW GATE
In today’s gospel Jesus was asked a very important question that I believe
all of us would love to know the answer. The question was: “Lord, will only a few
people be saved?” He answered them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door,
for many, I tell you will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough” (Luke 13:2324). In the past I think many people believed that salvation was very hard to achieve
but nowadays the populace choose the other extreme. Their belief is that salvation
is a given; everyone will be saved except the very few who strive to take the path of
avoidance.
Today’s gospel message is simple and clear: God wants everyone to be
saved and there is no special permit available to get to heaven. Even though the
door of the heavenly kingdom is opened to all, there is one condition; we must enter
it through the narrow gate. The Greek word that Jesus used in today’s gospel, which
is translated into English, “to strive” was “agonízomai”, from it comes the word
“agony”. Therefore, “agonízomai” means more than just strive. It requires the
necessary discipline and hard work to accomplish a goal. As many of us have been
watching the Olympics these days in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; we see clearly that if an
athlete wants to win the gold medal for his country he/she has to do more than just
strive to win.
My brothers and sisters, if we want one day to enter through the narrow
gate, into eternal life and be with our Lord Jesus, we have to do more than just try.
We must be determined to practice the teachings of Jesus every day of our lives; it
requires much dedication and sacrifice.
Blessings!
Fr. Quesnel

If you are interested in joining RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults), contact Deacon Gerry Palermo via email at:
[email protected] or (561)386-3647. Each year
men and women embark on an exploration of the Catholic faith.
Some are deciding if they are called into the Catholic Church; others
have been baptized Catholic but have not completed their Sacraments. There will
be a night of Inquiry on September 7th in the Adoration Chapel at 6:00 pm and all
are invited to see what its all about. There will be a second inquiry meeting on Sunday the 11th following the 9:00am Mass.
Classes will be held: Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:30 pm in the Conference room in
the Parish Office, across from Madonna Hall.
VOCATION CHALICE PROGRAM
This program encourages families to pray regularly for vocations to
priesthood and consecrated life. Each week a family would receive
the Vocation Chalice at Mass and take it home with a promise to
“pray for vocations” during that week. The family would place the chalice
in a prominent place in their home and would gather together each day to
pray, asking God to help raise awareness for Vocations in our parish. Prayer
booklets will be given to the family with a different prayer for each day. At
the end of the week, the family would bring the chalice back to church so the
next family could take it home. We hope that through prayer, our parish may
become a source of vocations to serve the diocese and the Church. If you are
interested, please call the office at 561-582-4736.
Sacred Heart Children's Choir will have it’s first practice on
Thursday, August 25th from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM in the church.

A Prayer to Avert Hurricanes
God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we
humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving
care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes
which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and
anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and
mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the
rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Christ, Your Son,
Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and
ever. Amen. Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and Patroness of our Diocese,
pray for us.
What is G.C.O.
Early in 2009, a group of concerned citizens in Belle Glade gathered to discuss the
issues facing the poor population, particularly the Haitian people, but also inclusive
of other cultures. The churches, social agencies, & hospitals, including health
clinics, are continually faced with difficult situations that deal with adult illiteracy,
access to health care, & navigating the social system in order to obtain acute, preventive, & chronic health-care. Social issues such as housing, transportation, language barriers, employment, teenage concerns , & parenting remain a constant
concern for us. From their was born the G.C.O., Inc.

PÒT KI ETWAT LA
Nan levanjil jodi-a nap wè kouman Jezu te reponn yon kesyon enpòtan
di nou sa, anpil moun va seye antre, yo p'ap kapab (Lik 13:23-24). Nan tan lontan
anpil moun te kwè lit e difisil anpil pou yon moun sove men kounye a bagay yo
konviksyon yo pou mache ak Bondye.
Levanjil jodi-a ap di nou aklè ke Bondye vle pou tout pitit Li yo sove e an
menm tan tou lap di tou ke pa gen patipri pou yon moun antre nan syèl. Men nou
pa dwe blye tou ke men si pòt syèl ouvè byen pou tout moun men gen yon
ki vle genyen yo meday an lò yo redi di avan yo rive rachte yon deday. Se pa yon
bagay ki fasil ditou.
Frè ak sè m yo, si nou ta renmen yon jou antre nan pòt etwal lan pou na-l
viv avèk Granmèt nou Jezu poutoutan fok nou fè anpil anpil efò; fòk nou travay
san pran souf kont tout fòs fènwa yo. Fòk nou gen anpil detèminasyon; fòk nou
mete an pratik tout lansèyman Granmèt nou Jezu an aplikasyon nan lavi nou
chakejou malgre tout sakrifis sa mande-n.
Benediksyon!

nosotros.
