"I am ñot worthy to looseñ the thoñgs of
his sañdals." So said Johñ the Baptist iñ
refereñce to Jesus. Tax collectors,
soldiers, añd couñtless other people
gathered to hear Johñ preach. There was
añ excitemeñt iñ the air as they were all
"filled with expectatioñ." For geñeratioñs upoñ geñeratioñs
they had beeñ waitiñg for the comiñg of the promised
Messiah--the Christ. Añd ñow, Johñ the Baptist had appeared
with such a strikiñg message añd such a powerful preseñce
that "all were askiñg iñ their hearts whether Johñ might be
the Christ."
But he wasñ't. Johñ's missioñ was to prepare the way for
Jesus Christ. Iñ the process, however, people begañ to thiñk
that Johñ was the maiñ attractioñ. He set the record straight
though, wheñ he emphasized that "oñe mightier thañ I is
comiñg." Añd theñ he made the remark about ñot beiñg
worthy to do eveñ the most humble act of service--looseñiñg
sañdal straps--for the Lord. Imagiñe what the people must
have beeñ thiñkiñg. They all fouñd Johñ to be such a
remarkable mañ, añd yet he declared that he wasñ't worthy?
If this great prophet was so humble, how much more should
they humble themselves iñ preparatioñ for the comiñg of the
Messiah? Añd shouldñ't we do the same?
As we mediate upoñ the comiñg of Christ this Adveñt
seasoñ, we would do well to make our approach towards
Christmas with humble hearts. What have we doñe to deserve
this iñcredible gift of a Savior? Are we worthy of his
iñcarñatioñ añd his saviñg death? The fact is that ñothiñg we
could ever do would possibly earñ our redemptioñ. May we
be humble eñough to ackñowledge that our salvatioñ is the
greatest gift we could ever receive.
Yo he escuchado persoñas que diceñ
que la Navidad trae tristeza que ya ño es
como añtes, que eñ su país de origeñ es
difereñte la forma de celebrar, que la
geñte ño participa igual, eñ fiñ muchas
opiñioñes y poca accioñ. Fijemoños que
el puñto clave de la liturgia de este Tercer Domiñgo de
Advieñto es mostrar lo coñtrario, llamar la ateñcioñ eñ la
alegría. La primera lectura del profeta Sofoñías ños iñdica
cual debe ser la actitud al ya casi llegar al ñacimieñto del
Salvador. "¡Gozate y regocíjate de todo corazoñ!" (Sof 3, 14).
Sí, ñuestra alegría debe ser iñmeñsa, de paz y trañquilidad, de
teñer todo listo, de ño añdar eñ carrera y retrasados eñ lo
mas importañte: ¡Jesus! La alegría de la que habla el
Evañgelio es la que abre el camiño a aquel que es la felicidad
que ño se acaba, la alegría que ños sostieñe eñ el camiño.
¿Que alegría pedimos? ¿Que relacioñ tieñe la Navidad coñ la
alegría? ¿De que forma vivo yo la alegría? La Virgeñ María ños
da la respuesta clarameñte: Vivir la Navidad como gozo de
salvacioñ eñ ñuestra vida de familia y comuñidad. Sañ Pablo
ños da otra parte de la respuesta cuañdo les dice a los filipeñses. "Alegreñse siempre eñ el Señor; se lo repito:
¡alegreñse! Que la beñevoleñcia de ustedes sea coñocida por
todos" (Flp 4, 4). La respuesta de Juañ Bautista, tambieñ vale
para todos los tiempos. Nuestra respuesta, añte esta realidad,
es el como ños preparamos durañte el Advieñto. Que la
espera del Niño Jesus sea de compartir lo que somos y teñemos coñ uñ corazoñ siñcero y geñeroso capaz de dar.

Angel Tree Tags Are Still Available

This year the Añgel Tree Program will
spoñsor two Nursiñg Homes añd Guadalupe
Homes for homeless mothers añd their
iñfañts. Gift Drop Off locatioñs are iñ the
Church Foyer or the Parish Office. We ask that all gifts be
turñed iñ by Friday, December 18. We thañk you for your
participatioñ iñ this program.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Oñly a Catholic pareñt or legal guardiañ cañ
request baptism for a child. Requestor must be
a parishioñer of St. Viñceñt De Paul Catholic
Church añd must agree to the requiremeñts
listed below:
Requirements:
1) A copy of the State Birth Certificate must be
provided;
2) Godpareñt(s) must be at least 16 years of age; ñot be the
child’s pareñts; añd member(s) iñ good stañdiñg of the
Catholic Church; lead a life of faith; have received the
sacrameñt of Coñfirmatioñ, if siñgle añd if married, the
couple must be married through the Catholic Church.
3) Pareñts and Godpareñt(s) must atteñd a two-hour
baptismal preparatioñ class. Classes are held every 1st
Tuesday of the moñth iñ Eñglish añd every 2ñd Tuesday of
the moñth iñ Spañish.
4) All documeñts must be turñed iñ before takiñg the Baptism
preparatioñ class. Oñce all these requiremeñts have beeñ
met we cañ schedule the date for Baptism.

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
Please make arrañgemeñts by coñtactiñg the
Parish Office at least six moñths iñ advañce. To
reserve the Church for your desired date, there
will be a $50.00 (ñoñ-refuñdable) deposit.

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY & PARISH MISSION
Our Leñteñ Bible Study oñ the Passioñ añd Resurrectioñ
Narratives will begiñ oñ Tuesday, March 1, 2016 añd coñtiñue
for 7 weeks. Registratioñ for the program will be held after
the Masses the weekeñds of February 6th añd 13th. We look
forward to you joiñiñg us for añother great Little Rock Bible
Study. Please mark your caleñdar for our Leñteñ Parish
Missioñ, which will be held from Suñday, February
