Remember that both of these writing sections will be on the test! Prepare your answers and then pick one of
the two scenarios to email to me ([email protected]). Remember all emails must be received by 9:40am on
the due date. ALWAYS print a copy of the email and keep it in your binder in case your email didn’t go through!
A. The little girl you babysit is interested in cooking, but her mother is worried about her safety. Write a list of at
least three dos and three don’ts to help the girl learn what is and is not safe to do in the kitchen. Remember to
use tú and negative tú command forms when writing your list.
B. You are asked to write a “how-to” guide for first-time campers who are planning to cook outdoors. Write a list
of 6 instructions that include: a) things to take with you; b) getting the fire started; c) suggestions for food to
bring to grill and eat; and d) rules campers need to follow.

Prepare your answer to both of these speaking topics and pick one of the two to leave in a voicemail for me.
1) You have just returned from a visit to Spain as an exchange student. A student in your class is interested in
Spanish customs, especially Spanish cooking. Your teacher asked you to explain to him how to make paella.
Using positive and negative tú commands, practice what you will say to the student by telling your teacher the
first 5 steps in preparing paella.
2) You volunteer to help a troop leader organize his group of 10-yeard old Scouts to get ready for their first
camping adventure! Tell your teacher at least 5 things that you would tell them to do using Usted and Ustedes
commands. You might include hiking and cooking suggestions, as well as tips for staying safe.
Remember that you will draw one of these two speaking topics for the speaking section of the test! The answer that
you choose to record must be at least 30 seconds long without noticeable hesitations. Make sure that you speak
clearly and use as much current vocabulary as possible. Also be careful to use correct grammar.
When you are ready, dial 279-7813 and record your response. Before giving your response, state your name, your
class period, and the chapter that you chose to address . All responses must be recorded before 7:00am on the
assigned date. Recordings received after this time will not be graded.

Recipe Project
For this project you must orally present a recipe from a Spanish-speaking country. You will also need to prepare a recipe
poster and a bi-lingual recipe handout. Preparing the dish for your classmates is optional.
Requirements:
Each partner must turn in the scoring rubric to the teacher when you present your project. If you do not have your copy
of the rubric, you will lose 5 points from your grade.
You must split the work evenly with your partner and if you choose to make the recipe for the class, you must split the
cost of food evenly with your partner.
The recipe is worth 50 points and the presentation is worth 50 points.
Each partner will receive a grade out of 100 points for this assignment.
Your grade and your partner’s grade will not necessarily be the same.
You will present your recipe to the class on _______________________.
Instructions:
Each group is responsible for 2 visual aids:
Partner 1: Must create a poster with the Spanish recipe on it. Your poster must include the ingredients and recipe
directions. Each direction MUST start with an affirmative or negative tú command. Your poster should be neat and
organized.
Partner 2: Must create a hand out that displays the English and Spanish versions of the recipe. This must be typed on 8 ½
by 11 inch paper with English on the left hand side and Spanish on the right hand side. The recipe page must look
appealing to children.
Each group MUST orally present their project in SPANISH.
Partner 1: Tell what the recipe is, the ingredients of the recipe, and why you and your partner chose this recipe
Partner 2: Tell the steps needed to make the recipe using tú and negative tú commands
Your presentation should last at least 40 seconds, with each partner speaking for 20 seconds.
