Chemistry Class

On behalf of the 12th grade class
The past month we have done something different in our chemistry class. With our teacher
Ms. Rosado, we decided to make our own book rather than learning from an already written
book. The past weeks we have implemented this new method and we have noticed good
results in our classmates as well as in ourselves. This is because at the end of each class
we are assigned an investigation about the next class’ subject, that way before we start the
class we already have an idea of what we’re going to do, we may not understand very well
but we got the main idea and are meant to reinforce the information during that class. It also
helps us to focus better.
As we implemented this new dynamic, we have noticed that not only the comprehension becomes a lot easier when we have previous knowledge, but we also have
the opportunity to exercise and improve our writing skills which comes in handy for
future written reports for any class. To top it all, this method of learning also helps
those students who participate less to interact with the class because they will have
a clearer idea of what is going on.
In conclusion, we exhort teachers to try to implement this learning technique in their classes
because not only will it be easier for the students to understand the subjects, but to the teacher to get the idea through more efficiently. We believe that this method of learning will be
beneficial for everyone.

Creo que las tres Rs son muy importantes,
porque por ejemplo, luego de usar un galón
de agua, puedes reusarlo para echar otras
cosas, decorar, sembrar plantas y muchas
cosas más.
Me gusta mucho reusar, porque es muy
chulo ver cuando usas una botella y la lleva
al lugar donde la reciclan, ellos la limpian y
la venden otra vez.

6th graders students visit
Rancho Don Rey in Eco Trip
O
ur sixth grade students visited Rancho Don Rey in
Sabana de la Mar, where they enjoyed a fun and
educational approach to nature at the school’s ecology
ranch. Students had the opportunity to work on developing
their social consciousness and participate in integration
activities as well as sports and recreational time.

Promueven la racionalización
del agua
ara abordar la problemática del agua, crear conciencia de su importancia
y motivar al uso adecuado de este recurso, los alumnos de 12mo
grado participaron de un acto de banderas en el que explicaron a sus
compañeros la situación del agua en la zona norte. Igualmente, integraron las
promociones 9no, 10mo y 11avo grado quienes se unieron con una campana
de ahorro del agua. Con carteles, mensajes motivadores y una canción sobre
la cultura del agua, toda la comunidad escolar se llevó un hermoso mensaje de
cómo cuidar este recurso tan valioso e imprescindible.

German and China National Day Celebration
T
hird Graders explored the history of divided
Germany and the importance of unity in a country.
In our Social Studies class we learned how to
count to ten in German and the chorus of a traditional
German children’s song which we proudly performed
during the flag ceremony. Third Graders dressed up in
the colors of the German flag: red, yellow, and black,
to present their song “Summ, summ, summ, Bienchen
summ herum. “We thoroughly enjoyed learning about
the diverse and rich history of Germany!
Meanwhile, 11th grade students presented on China,
where they highlighted the reasons why this day is observed and the traditions that are maintained. They
also discussed China today, as well as their national symbols, economy and gastronomy. The hymn was
played and students with this nationality were invited
to stand in the front, where the flag of China was displayed.

Columbus Day
S
ixth grade students presented a short play based on a TV program
they created, called “Sixth Grade History Channel”. During
this flag ceremony presentation, sixth graders talked about the
history of Columbus Day and also pointed out the way it is celebrated
around the world. They also explained why this date is so important
for all of humanity. They mentioned some important facts about the
discovery of the New World and how Christopher Columbus ended up in
America (The Indies) by mistake while searching a shorter trade route
from Europe to Asia. This activity was a great opportunity to reinforce
what has been previously learned in their Social Studies class.
Likewise, our younger students from pre-first recalled this important day through a song about the first expedition of Columbus to America.

Pre-primario visita Zoológico
C
on el objetivo de identificar las diferentes familias de
animales, los alumnos de pre-primario realizaron un
paseo al Zoológico de Santiago, donde disfrutaron de
las diferentes especies.
Los chicos se divirtieron y aprendieron de la mano de sus profesoras reforzando lo que estaban trabajando en sus aulas.

Fun Friday
A
s every year, children enjoyed many fun activities in our
traditional Fun Friday. 8th and 12th grade student’s organized
an enjoyable afternoon in our yard, a Haunted House, a
football game, inflatable games, costume contest, bazaar, pictures
and balloons figures for the little ones were some of the activities.

Social Studies Project
by 5th grade
T
he 5th grade students developed a project of Natural Areas in
their Social Studies class, in order to capture what was learned
in class. To achieve this, the students built models, made ​​videos
and presentations representing a specific area. In addition, they learned
the concepts of land, climate, people and lifestyle that exists in different
areas. The kids really enjoyed the project and were able to show that
there are many creative ways to learn.

Partidos Amistosos Intercolegiales
uestros equipos de futsal continúan
realizando encuentros deportivos con otras
escuelas, y en el mes de octubre recibimos
al Instituto Iberia, y nos trasladamos hacia el
Santiago Junior School.
Nos sentimos regocijados de ver cómo nuestros alumnos
además de entrenarse y mejorar sus habilidades, se divierten y disfrutan de un deporte que les provee múltiples
beneficios para su salud física y mental.
Alumnos sobresalen en torneo de Ajedrez
Como cada año, nuestro colegio participó del Torneo de Ajedrez que organiza el Centro Español de Santiago, que en
esta ocasión se celebró los días 15 y 16 del mes en curso.
Nuestros estudiantes tuvieron un destacado desempeño resultando ganadores 3 de nuestros de ellos en 2 categorías.
Los resultados finales, para fines de premiación fueron los
siguientes:

Día del poeta y Natalicio Salomé Ureña
L
os estudiantes de 8vo grado recordaron el natalicio de Salomé Ureña y celebraron
el Día del Poeta con una presentación que realizaron en un acto de banderas,
donde ofrecieron datos relevantes y de interés para toda la comunidad estudiantil.
Para finalizar su participación, declamaron uno de sus poemas: El ave y el nido.
La poetisa, Salomé Ureña de Henríquez, es considerada la mayor exponente de la poesía romántica del siglo XIX, además de sus aportes a la formación de las mujeres en la República Dominicana.

Parent´s School conference
P
arents of our school community enjoyed and took part
in what was a sharing of experiences and knowledge.
Lic. Katy Lizardo, Business Consultant and a mother at
our school, shared with the participants interesting tips in the
conference, “Leadership for Parents of Successful Children.”
As parents, we expect to see our children grow and succeed. However, if we are not well focused and identify our priorities, the way
to it may not be as pleasing. During the conference, parents were
reminded of useful tips to help continue the process of raising and
developing the best skills of their children.

Estudiantes de 10mo grado
elaboran fábulas
C
omo parte del programa de su clase de Lengua Española, los estudiantes de 10mo
grado elaboraron sus propias fábulas. Haciendo uso de sus mejores habilidades de
redacción y creatividad, nuestros jóvenes crearon fábulas y las titularon con nombres
como El ratoncito y el gato; María, la elefantita arrepentida; El cerdo menospreciado; Ferny
la tortuga que no hacía nada; La competencia entre el cocodrilo y el conejo; Un flamenco y
una gaviota en Montecristi; El perro callejero y su amigo; y, Amelia y el caricaturista. Los alumnos de bachillerato quisieron compartir sus creaciones por lo que visitaron los grupos de
Pre-Primario, Primero, Segundo y Tercer grado quienes disfrutaron de su compañía y de la lectura
de estas nuevas historias.
Excelente iniciativa de nuestros alumnos y un hermoso gesto el compartirlo con los más pequeños.

Street. This song expresses how much they love
coming to school to read, write and play. First grade wanted
to demonstrate they come ready to learn each and every day.

Open House
C
on gran entusiasmo recibimos la visita de los niños
del Pre-escolar Nido, los que acompañados de sus
padres conocieron las instalaciones del colegio.
Los niños participaron de actividades en inglés, en español y
de arte, en las que disfrutaron de las técnicas y los recursos
que aplica el colegio. Por su parte, los padres observaron una
clase de inglés y a seguidas pasaron al salón de proyecciones
donde se les presentó la oferta académica de la institución.
Terminada las actividades en las aulas, los niños y sus padres
pasaron al patio donde compartieron meriendas y jugaron.

n Friday 31st we celebrated “Character
Dress up Day” from Toddlers to Second
grade. Everyone came to school dressed
as their favorite character. We had a parade
during flag ceremony and everyone loved the

¿Cómo podemos enseñar el valor de la perseverancia, Utilizar Materiales Reciclados y Trabajar Enfocado en la
Meta” a nuestros(as) niños, niñas y jóvenes?
• Para los padres/madres y maestros(as):
• Sea constante en las actividades que programe en familia y si surgen dificultades analícela con todos los miembros. Hora de ir a
la cama, de ver televisión, jugar, realizar tareas, actividades con los amigos. Compartir con todos los miembros.
• Demuestre empeño y dedicación en su labor de padre, madre, docente y asuma las responsabilidades que dicho rol trae consigo.
• Luche por sus sueños y comparta con los demás sus deseos, reconociendo que es su responsabilidad llevarlo a acabo y vencer
los obstáculos que encuentra en el camino.
• Asigne tareas realizables y que tengan un objetivo, sean estas escolares o familiares y motive para que den lo mejor de sí.
• Reconozca cuando falle e intente de nuevo.
• Refuerce las acciones positivas todo el tiempo. Si darnos cuentas, nos detenemos y reforzarnos las acciones negativas con

• Eres constantes en las actividades que inicias y te esfuerza por dar lo mejor de ti.
• Enfrentas las dificultades que encuentras en tu camino.
• Asumes las tareas familiares y escolares con responsabilidad.
• Sabes que puedes contar siempre con el apoyo de tus padres.
• Busca mejorar en el deporte y clases extracurriculares en las cuales participa.
• Colabora en las campañas de cuidado de medio ambiente organizadas en el colegio trayendo material reciclado y depositando
los desperdicios en los lugares asignados.
¿Por qué nos ocupamos de enseñar el valor de la “perseverancia” “Utilizar Materiales Reciclados y Trabajar Enfocado en la Meta” a nuestros(as) niños, niñas y jóvenes?

El éxito no viene sólo, sino que está acompañado de este valor e implica esa capacidad de ir eliminando esas dificultades que encontramos en el camino para llegar a nuestro destino final.
La perseverancia trabaja conjuntamente con la voluntad, disciplina, tenacidad, asiduidad, persistencia, orden, empeño, constancia, y
obstinación.
Vamos a motivar a nuestros niños y jóvenes a mantenerse enfocando en sus metas dando lo mejor de sí en cada actividad que emprendan y a aceptar los desafíos que cada acción trae consigo.

How can we teach the value of Perseverance, use recycled materials to make arts and craft, and work focused
on the goal” to our children?
• For Parents and Teachers:
• Be consistent in the activities that you schedule as a family, and if difficulties arise discuss them with all members. Time to go to
bed, watch TV, play, do homework, activities with friends. Share with all members.
• Demonstrate commitment and dedication in your work as father, mother, teacher and assume the responsibilities that the role
entails.
• Strive for your dreams and share with others your wishes, recognizing that it is your responsibility to make it happen and overcome obstacles on the way..
• Assign achievable tasks that have a goal, be they school or family and motivate them to do their best.
• Recognize when you fail and try again.
• Reinforce positive actions all the time. Without realizing it, we stop and reinforce our negative actions more frequently.

The planet is a common good that requires that
we all take the social commitment to maintain and
protect it. More and more voices are working to
help us understand the importance of recycling to
stop pollution.
There are many activities we can do, as a family
and at school, to reuse waste.
