Normas para los autores
Instrucciones para los autores
La revista Archivos de Neurociencias (México) recibirá artículos originales sobre las distintas neurociencias, que
una vez aprobados por el Comité Editorial serán publicados. Estos artículos pueden ser de diferentes tipos
adaptándose a los grandes rubros de nuestra revista:
Editoriales: son escritas por el editor o por un invitado. El contenido de la editorial hará o no alusión a temas de
las ciencias neurológicas.
Artículos originales: (1500-4000 palabras). Los artículos deben ser trabajos originales de tipo clínico o
experimental, relacionados con cualquier área de neurociencias.
Artículos de revisión: (3000-10000 palabras). Estos artículos consisten en la revisión de algún tema básico,
clínico o teórico en el área de las neurociencias. Las referencias deben citarse de acuerdo al orden de aparición
en el texto.
Temas selectos: estos artículos pueden ser de tipo histórico, puntos de vista, de filosofía de las medicina u otras
categorías.
Reporte de casos clínicos o patológicos: (500-1500 palabras). Estos artículos pueden ser dirigidos a médicos
residentes, abordando un caso en particular o una serie de casos sobresalientes, así como, de nuevos tratamientos,
entre otros.
Reporte de congresos o cursos: (500-1500 palabras). Los reportes tendrán la información más trascendente
presentada durante el curso o congreso sobre cualquier tópico del área de las neurociencias.
Los suplementos son publicados en áreas específicas de las neurociencias.
Los artículos pueden ser escritos en español o inglés. La revista no se compromete a realizar traducciones. Los
trabajos enviados deben ser originales e inéditos y no presentarse en otra revista en tanto estén sometidos a la
consideración de la nuestra. Los trabajos son responsabilidad de los autores y su contenido no necesariamente
representa la opinión del Instituto, la Secretaría de Salud o el Comité Editorial. Los artículos deben ser enviados

El material publicado podrá reproducirse sólo con autorización expresa de la revista “Archivos de Neurociencias

Proceso de selección:
El proceso de evaluación comprende:
a. La primera revisión es hecha por el editor, para determinar si el manuscrito corresponde a la línea editorial.
b. La segunda revisión la realizan (de manera anónima) dos revisores especializados. En caso de empate,
se entrega el artículo a otro revisor.
c. El dictamen final se comunica por escrito a los autores y en inapelable. Pero si las observaciones sugeridas
por los revisores, son aceptadas y realizadas por los autores, el manuscrito será reconsiderado.
Consideraciones sobre el estilo del manuscrito
Los trabajos deben remitirse por triplicado (original y dos copias), con los cuadros y figuras. El texto
debe enviarse impreso en papel blanco tamaño carta (21 X 28 cm), en una sola cara, a doble espacio.
Si usted escribe su artículo en CD, debe etiquetar con el nombre del título corto, el procesador y versión
utilizada, el nombre y teléfono del autor principal escrito en la etiqueta del disco. Asimismo, envíe su nombre,
dirección, fax y número telefónico para cualquier aclaración (revise las normas para los autores).
Empiece cada sección en cada página separada, numerando las páginas consecutivamente. Todo
manuscrito deberá tener: página frontal; resumen y palabras clave (en inglés y en español); texto; agradecimientos;
referencias; cuadros; figuras y pies de figura.
A. Página frontal
La primera página tendrá el título completo del trabajo escrito en forma clara y precisa, seguido de la
lista de autores con nombres y apellidos en el orden en que deberían figurar en la publicación. A continuación
escribirá la( s) institución (es) de afiliación, la dirección, el teléfono y el fax del primer autor para cualquier
aclaración.
B. Resumen en español y palabras clave
La segunda página del manuscrito presentará un resumen en español; cuando se trate de artículos originales
debe enviarse en forma estructurada: objetivo, material y métodos, resultados y conclusiones más relevantes.
También escribirán cuatro palabras clave que permitan identificar el tema del artículo (use los encabezados del
Index Medicus). La extensión máxima del resumen es de 250 palabras para artículos originales y 150 para los
informes breves.
C. Título, resumen y palabras clave en inglés
La tercera página corresponde a la traducción al inglés título del artículo y resumen (abstract). Si se
considera necesario, puede ser más extenso que el resumen original, ya que es importante que contenga
suficiente información para que el lector pueda conocer los datos fundamentales del trabajo. También debe
incluirse la traducción de las palabras clave (key words). La extensión máxima es de 250- 300 palabras para los
artículos originales y 150- 200 para informes breves.
D. Texto
Este se iniciará en la cuarta página. Cuando se trate de informes de investigación, el escrito deberá tener
las siguientes secciones: introducción. Debe incluir el propósito del trabajo y algunos antecedentes que
fundamenten el estudio. Material y métodos. En esta sección se incluirán los procedimientos de selección de
material experimental utilizado (humano o animal) y se identificaran los métodos, equipo, instrumentación y
procedimientos con suficiente detalle como para permitir su reproducción. Todos los procedimientos que se
lleven a cabo en humanos deberán ajustarse a las normas éticas sobre experimentación humana de la Declaración
de Helsinki. Por ningún motivo se identificará a las personas que participaron en el estudio. Los procedimientos matemáticos y los medios estadísticos deberán describirse en detalle. Deberá identificar los fármacos y
productos químicos utilizados, incluyendo sus nombres genéricos, dosis y vía de administración. Resultados.
Se presentarán siguiendo una secuencia lógica, tanto en el texto como en los cuadros y figuras. Los datos
consignados a los cuadros y figuras no deberán repetirse en el texto; aquí solo se comentarán o resumirán las
observaciones más importantes. La suma de tablas y figuras debe estar en función de la longitud del texto, de
modo que el total no exceda la mitad menos una de las páginas del texto (por ej.), 4 para un artículo de 10
páginas; 9 para uno de 20 páginas). Discusión. En esta sección se resaltan los aspectos más novedosos e importantes del estudio y se exponen las conclusiones. Los datos presentados en la sección de resultados deben
comentarse en forma resumida. Los resultados suelen compararse aquí con resultado de otros estudios similares.
Agradecimientos. Agradecer sólo a personas que han contribuido al contenido científico o que han dado apoyo
técnico o económico.
E. Referencias
Las referencias bibliográficas se presentarán en hojas por separado y se ordenaran numéricamente de
acuerdo con la secuencia de aparición en el texto. En éste sólo se incluirá el número arábigo de la referencia
correspondiente, en paréntesis o subíndice. Las referencias deberán ajustarse a las normas adoptadas por la
U.S. National Library y por el Index Medicus. Los títulos de las revistas deberán abreviarse de acuerdo con la List
of Journals Index Medicus, publicados anualmente en el número de enero del Index Medicus. Enseguida se
presentan ejemplos de las formas correctas para las referencias.
1. Revista
a. Apellido(s) e inicial(es) del nombre o nombres del o de los autores, seguidos de punto (mencione todos
los autores cuando sean seis o menos; cuando sean siete o más, señale sólo los seis primeros y añada
et al).
b. Título completo del artículo, utilizando mayúscula sólo para la primera letra de la palabra inicial (y para
nombres propios), seguido de punto.
c. Abreviatura de la revista como está indexada en Index Medicus o como indica el American National
Standards Institute (ANSI); entre las siglas de la abreviatura, no se colocará puntuación alguna; tampoco
al final.
d. Año de publicación, seguido de punto y coma.
e. Volumen, en números arábigos, seguidos de dos puntos.
f. Números completos de las páginas (inicial y final), separados por un guión.

b. Título del libro, utilizando mayúsculas solo para la primera letra de la palabra inicial, seguido de punto
c. Número de la edición, sólo si es la primera, seguida de punto.
d. Ciudad en que la obra fue publicada, seguida de dos puntos; cuando se indica más de un lugar como sede
de la editorial, se utiliza el que aparece primero.
e. Nombre de la editorial, seguido de coma.
f. Año de la publicación (de la última edición citada si hay más de una edición), seguido de punto y coma
si se va a indicar el volumen, y de dos puntos si se enuncia el numero de páginas.
g. Número del volumen si hay más de uno, antecedido de la abreviatura “vol”, seguido de dos puntos.
h. Número de la página citada; en el caso de que la cita se refiera al capítulo de un libro, indicar la primera
y la última página del capítulo separadas por un guión.

F. Cuadros
Estas deberán ser a doble espacio y en hoja separada para cada cuadro. No envíe cuadros en fotografía. El
encabezado debe escribirse concisamente de modo que entienda sin recurrir al texto. Numerarlas en el orden
que se citan en el texto.
G. Figuras
Envíe un juego doble de fotografías de papel brillante con letras dibujadas profesionalmente para cada figura. El
tamaño debe ser de 12.7 x 17.3 cm (5 x 7), y numeradas en el orden que se citan en el texto con arábigos. En el
reverso de cada fotografía escriba el número de la figura, el sobrenombre del autor principal y con una flecha
indicar la parte superior de la fotografía, utilizando lápiz ligero.
H. Pies de figura
Los pies de figura deben ser concisos. Explique cualquier abreviatura que se use en la figura, y aclare lo que se
gráfica en los ejes verticales y horizontales si no está marcado en la figura. Cada figura debe tener su pie de
figura escrito en una página separada.
I. Publicación
Todos los trabajos deben enviarse con una “Hoja de Cesión de Derechos”, con el nombre y firma de os autores.

Intructions for Authors
The journal “Archives of Neurosciences (Mexico)” accepts original articles in the Neurological Sciences. After approval by the Editorial Committee, they will be published.
The articles accepted are of the following categories:
Editorials: Written either by the editor or by invitation. The topic should be related to the content of the
corresponding volume.
Original articles (1500-4000 words): The articles should concern original work, either clinical or experimental, related to any area of the neurosciences.
Review articles (3000-10000 words): These articles should consist of complete reviews of a topic from
the basic, clinical or theoretical areas of the neurosciences. Cite references as they are refered to in the text.
Clinical or pathological case reports (500-1500 words): These articles should be directed towards
educating the reader about a particular case or series of cases that are important, unusual, that are related to
new treatments, etc.
Reports of curses or congresses (500-1500 words ): these brief reports should describe information of
importance that was presented during a course or congress in any of the neurosciences or related areas.
Supplements are also published in specific areas of the neurosciences.
Articles may be written in either Spanish or English, but the journal does not make translations. Articles
should be original and not be under consideration by another journal while under consideration by the “ Archives
of Neurosciences (Mexico)” . Articles are the responsibility of the authors and their content does no necessarily
represent the opinion of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Secretary of Health or the editorial committee.

The “ Archives of Neurosciences (Mexico)” reserves all legal rights of reproduction (Copyright). Originals
become property of the journal and will not be returned. Published material may be reproduced only with the

Selection procedure
The process of evaluation consists of the following:
a. A first revision by the editors to determine if the manuscript contents corresponds to the editorial objectives for the journal.
b. A second revision by two arbitrary specialists. If these two reviewers have divergent opinions, a third
reviewer will be contacted to evaluate the manuscript.
c. The final written decision will be sent to the authors make corrections, and these are made, the manuscript can be reconsidered.
Style
Manuscripts should be sent in triplicate (original and two copies), including figures an tables. The next
should be sent printed on white bond paper (21 x 28 cm), on one side of the page and double-spaced. If sent on
diskette, use a 3.5” 1.4 Mb diskette formatted for PC
Or compatible, whit the name and telephone number of the corresponding author, the short title of the article
and the word processor
And version used, written on the label. Include the paper versions with the diskette. Please review the instructions for authors.
The sections of the manuscript should be in the following sequence: Title Page; Abstracts in Spanish
and English with the key words; Text; Acknowledgements; References; Tables; Figures; Legends.
A. Title page
The first page should have the complete title of the article, written in a clear and precise manner, followed by
a list of the authors with their names in the order they should appear in case of publication. Next, list the name
of the Institution(s) of affiliation, address for correspondence, and the telephone and Fax of the main author.
B. English abstract and key words
The second page of the manuscript should consist of an abstract is of a full article, it should be structured
and include: study objective, material and methods, results and relevant conclusions. Additionally, there should
be 3-6 key words that will permit easy identification of the article, typed on a separate line. The maximum
length of the abstract is 250 words for full articles and 150 words for short reports.
C. Title, abstract and key words in Spanish
The third page of the manuscript should consist of an abstract in Spanish, and the title of the article translated into Spanish. If necessary, it may be more lengthy than the original in English in order to give sufficient
information to the reader about the article’s contents. The key words also should be translated to Spanish.
The maximum length of the abstract is 250-300 words for a full article and 150-200 words for a short report.
D. Text
This part of the manuscript should begin on the fourth page. If the article is a research report, it should contain the
following sections: Introduction. Should include the purpose of and background to the study. Material and Methods.
This section should include procedures used for selection of subjects (human, animal or other) and the description
of methods, apparatus and tests used in sufficient detail that the study may be produced by other workers. If
human subject were used, the ethical norms of the Helsinki Declaration must be followed and this must be stated
in the text. Mathematical and statistical procedures should be described in detail. Identify precisely all drugs and
chemicals used, including generic name(s), dose(s), and route(s) of administration. Results. Present your results
in logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations. Do not repeat in the text all the data tables and illustrations;
emphasize or summarize only important observations. The number of tables and figures will depend on the
length of the text an should not exceed half the number of the pages of the text minus one (ex. 4 for an article of
10 pages; 9 for an article of 20 pages). Discussion. In this section emphasize the new and important aspects of
the study and the conclusions that follow them. Data should be discussed in brief, but the implications of the
findings in comparison to other studies in the literature and implications for future research should be discussed
in detail. Acknowledgements. Thank only those persons who have contributed to the scientific content of the
study or who gave technical or financial support.
E. References
Number references consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text using Arabic numerals
in parenthesis. Use the style of the examples listed below. They are based on formats used by Index Medicus.
Abbreviate titles of journals according to the style used in the List of Journals Index in Index Medicus.

F. Tables
Make tables in double space and use a separate page for each. Do not send tables as photographs. The little of
the table should describe it concisely and precisely so that it is understandable without need to refer to the text.
Number tables in the order in which they are cited in the text.
G. Figures
Send a set of two sharp, glossy, black and white photographic prints, usually 12.7 x17.3 cm (5x7), for each figure.
Number as they are cited in the text with arabig numerals. Type title and legend on separate sheet for each figure.
On the back of each print, write in soft pencil the number of the figure, the surname of the main author and an
arrow indicating the top of the figure. Do not mount the prints on paper.
H. Legends
Figure legends should be concise. Explain the abbreviations that appear in the figure and clarify what the verticle
and horizontal axes depict, if this is not clear in the figure. For each figure, there should be a figure legend typed
on a separate sheet of paper.
I. Publication
All manuscripts should be sent accompanied by a statement signed by all the authors in which they cede all
rights of publication to the “archives of Neurosciences (Mexico)”.
