Reflect! Celebrate! October 9, 2016—Twenty-eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time 9 de octubre de 2016—Vigésimo Octovo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Vigésimo Octavo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Si morimos con Cristo Jesús viviremos con él; si nos mantenemos firmes, reinaremos con él. — 2 Timoteo 2:11‑12a Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time If we have died with [Christ Jesus] we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him. Michael Scott, a seminarian studying at St. Patrick’s Seminary, will be spending the year working with us at St. John Vianney Parish. Michael grew up in a Catholic family in Southern California, going to Catholic School from grade K-12. His priest in grade school asked him if he’d ever considered the priesthood and he hasn’t been able to forget the question since. He has one sister and four nieces and nephews. He spent seven years working in the aerospace industry on fun things like military radios, satellite systems, and internet security before finally answering the call to enter the seminary. Michael has always been passionate about the truth, and this passion only intensified once he found out that the Truth could and wanted to manifest Himself in his daily life. As Christ began drawing Michael into deeper relationship with Himself, Michael began serving within the Church by assisting at catechism classes in his home parish, hosting discussion groups for Young Adults and even leading a Purity and Chastity group for YAs in the Bay Area. God finally unblocked what was preventing him from considering the priesthood and he has since entered the seminary and spent four years in priestly formation for the Diocese of San Jose. Formation has included two years of studying the history of western philosophical thought and two more years studying what God has revealed about Himself over the centuries. While here at St. John Vianney, Michael is very much looking forward to just being here with all of you, serving you, and seeing how God is already present in your lives. 1 PASTORAL STAFF Fr. Where are the other nine?" Luke 17:17 One day, Jesus was walking through a small village when he saw a group of ten lepers. They stood far away from Jesus and called to him, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us." Obviously, they knew who Jesus was and that he had the power to heal them. When Jesus heard them, he called back to the lepers and said, "Go, show yourself to the priest." As the lepers went on their way to see the priest, they looked at their skin and the sores were gone. Jesus had healed their disease. They were so happy that they ran up and down the streets singing and dancing. Suddenly, one of them stopped and went back. Praising God with a loud voice, he threw himself at Jesus' feet and said, "Thank You." Jesus said to him, "Weren't there ten who were healed? Where are the other nine?" Only one out of ten remembered to say, "Thank You." Dear Lord, you give us everything we need, but we often forget to say "Thank You." We thank you now, and ask you to help us to remember to give thanks every day for all that you do for us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. Pasa tu fe a nuestros niños y niñas. Nosotros te entrenaremos.
