Fr Don Musings….
The big news this week is the Pope's visit to the USA. He'll
arrive on Tuesday and finish up on Sunday. Pope Francis has a
full schedule, including addressing Congress, the United Nations,
and the U.S. bishops, a memorial service at the 9/11 site, and
canonizing Junipero Serra. He will also visit a Catholic school in
poverty stricken Harlem, and a prison in Philadelphia.
The pope's visit will stir a lot of conversations this week. Be
ready to take part in those conversations and to point out the good
that the Catholic Church does around the world. Pope Francis is a
great "poster boy" for the Catholic Church. Let's take advantage of
all this publicity to invite people to be part of our Catholic Church,
especially those who have drifted away for some reason.
Please join me this week in praying every day for the success of
the Pope's visit.

RCIA
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults—If a Catholic
wants to return to the active practice of the faith after
having been a member of a different religion is he
obliged to go through RCIA first or just go to
confession? It depends on the person's state at the time he left the
Catholic Church. If he had been catechized and had received all the
sacraments of initiation--baptism, confirmation, Eucharist--then he
will normally be able to return by going to confession, mentioning
the fact he had joined another church, and being absolved.

Having a sense of purpose and meaning in life ranks high in the
cluster of the commonplaces of happiness. No matter where we are
on the economic chart, it’s knowing what we exist for that counts.
No matter how mundane our gifts may seem to be, even to
ourselves, the world will be the poorer without them, and we will
be poorer, too, for not having given them as best we can. My life
has meaning to every life I touch. It’s knowing that and living
accordingly that counts. What am I part of that is larger than
myself? What can I give to this world that will be meaningful to
others? Where does the world need me? As the Chinese proverb
put it: If you want happiness for an hour—take a nap. If you want
happiness for a day—go fishing. If you want happiness for a
year—inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime—help

La gran noticia de esta semana es la visita del Papa a los EE.UU... Él
va a llegar el martes y volverá a Roma el domingo. El Papa Francisco
tiene un calendario completo, incluyendo hablando con el Congreso,
las Naciones Unidas, y los obispos Estadunidenses; celebrara un
servicio conmemorativo en el lugar de 911 y va a canonizar al Padre
Junípero Serra. También visitará una escuela católica en la zona pobre
de Harlem en Nueva York, y una prisión en Filadelfia.

Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos-Si un católico
quiere regresar a la práctica activa de la fe después de
haber sido miembro de una religión diferente ¿está
obligado a tomar las clases de Iniciación Cristiana para
Adultos primero o simplemente ir a confesarse? Depende del estado
de la persona en el momento en que dejó la Iglesia Católica. Si
hubiera sido catequizados y había recibido todos los sacramentos de la
iniciación - el bautismo, la confirmación, la Eucaristía como lo normal
será capaz de volver e ir a confesarse, mencionando el hecho de que se

We encourage parents to reflect on these

and family. September 20 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
**Mark 9:30-37**
In the Gospel today we see Jesus and his disciples’ journeying
through Galilee. Jesus is again telling of his coming passion and
resurrection but the disciples do not understand. The disciples begin
arguing about who is greatest among them. Jesus tells them, “If
anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of
all.” This teaching tells us about behavior and attitude. We offer our
efforts in the service of others to make life better for them in some
way.
Why do you think Jesus had to tell his disciples about service?
What are some ways we can offer service to others?
Make a plan with your family to participate in some kind of service
to others this year.
Look at the examples in the Bible story for hints.

Knights of Columbus—Thank you to all that helped and
supported the Knights of Columbus
food both at Oktoberfest this last weekend. Welcome to
three new members of the Knights of Columbus. Nathan Reed, Phil
Westover and Marcelo Roldan joined our organization this week.
Congratulations to Phil Westover as the Knight of the month and to
Rick and Lisa Rogers as the family of the month for September. We
also thank Linda Vondrachek as the Lady of the month. Thank you
for all you do for our Church and community. Special thank you to
Heiko and Rossana Junge and Couples for Christ for their wonderful
meal and presentation to the Knights of Columbus Tuesday night.

Pre-School Corner
Preschool Students—School started this past
week. There were eight excited 3 and 4 year olds and one very
hopeful teacher. The children started the year off by making cards
for Grandparents’ Day. They made a paper ice cream cone with a
cherry on top and then glued their picture onto the scoop of ice
cream. This made a "sweet treat". The task of gluing was
great. They are learning to trace lines to start writing skills.
Niños Preescolares—Las clases ya
comenzaron la semana pasada. Hay ocho niños de 3 y 4 años de edad
muy emocionados y una maestra llena de esperanza. Empezamos el
año construyendo tarjetas para el Día de los Abuelos. Con un cono de
helado hecho de papel con una cereza en la parte superior y luego los
niños pegaron una foto en la bola de helado. Hicieron un "capricho
dulce". El aprender a usar pegamento fue estupendo. Van a practicar
líneas rectas para empezar a formar letras

Bus Transportation—We will provide bus transportation for the
adults wishing to attend the Deaconate Ordination of Mr. Jose
Montoya at the St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on
1716 NW Davis St. in Portland, OR 97209. The service will start at
11:00 am and last approximately 2 hours and the drive will take
approximately 45 minutes each way.
The bus has 46 seats. Cost is $12 per person. Sign up early!
