“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two
fish; but what good are these for so many?” Then Jesus
took the loaves, gave thanks, and
distributed them to those who were
reclining, and also as much of the fish
as they wanted. - Jn 6:9, 11
"A large crowd followed him,
because they saw the signs he was
performing on the sick." Jesus was
attracting attention because of the
miracles he had been working.
Word spread, and people wanted to
see it for themselves. In today's
Gospel, a huge crowd--five
thousand men--gathered to see if
Jesus was really a miracle worker.
And he didn't let them down. This
time, instead of performing a
miraculous healing for someone
who was sick, Jesus performed a
miracle that helped everyone who
was there. He fed them all, out of
the tiniest bit of food: five barley loaves and two fish. And with
twelve baskets of leftovers to boot! In case any of them had
been in doubt before, this sign made it clear. Jesus was the
Messiah. The people said, "This is truly the Prophet, the one
who is to come into the world." Each person in attendance had a
personal experience of the power and providence of the Lord
that day when they ate their fill. Jesus not only met their needs,
but he went above and beyond this by multiplying the loaves
and fishes in such abundance. It was as if he was saying, "I want
you to have what you need and more. And I have power to
provide it for you." This miracle-working, food-producing, need
-meeting Jesus is the same Jesus that we believe in. This is the
same man that we call our savior. This is the Lord we pray to
and the One to whom we entrust our lives. This ancient Gospel
story is not irrelevant to our lives; it is also part of our story,
here, today. Jesus can also provide for us. He has the power, and
the desire, to give us all that we need and even more. He wants
to feed us, too, with a satisfied and abundant life, a life of lasting
fulfillment.

Humildemente te pedimos sabiduría y
paciencia a la vez que nos enorgullecemos y maravillamos de nuestros nietos.

Two successful senior debaters at Holy Cross Catholic Academy spent part
of their summer honing their skills. Jose Villafuerte was awarded a full
scholarship to attend a two-week Texas Debate Collective camp in Austin
in June. Ben Fullerton attended a one-week speech and debate camp hosted
by Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Both camps focused on
deepening the philosophical background that students need to be successful
in debate, as well as developing their skills in case writing, argumentation
and debate strategy. HCCA will be open Tuesdays – Thursdays from 10:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until the end of July. Regular days and hours will begin
on Monday, August 3rd. The faculty and staff of HCCA wish everyone a
