who are experiencing a loss, or going through difficult times or

The parish community of St. Bartholomew
extends its deepest sympathy and prayers to
Keith Kramer and family and friends upon the
death of his wife, Bettina Kramer, on January
11, 2015. A Funeral Mass for Bettina was
celebrated at St. Bartholomew Church on
February 7. Please keep the soul of the
deceased and her family and friends in your prayers.

To prepare for Ash Wednesday, February 18, you are asked to
bring in last year’s palms and drop them off in the Church
vestibule. Your blessed palms will be burned after the 9.00
a.m. Mass on Monday, February 16, to be used on Ash
Wednesday.

The Light Is On For You - this Lenten season, each Catholic
parish in the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of
Arlington will have confessions available every Wednesday
evening between 6.30 p.m.-8.00 p.m. If you have been
reluctant to come to the sacrament, have been away for some
time or just found it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon
confession time, this is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect
with
Christ
and
His
Church.

Stations of the Cross will be held every Friday evening
during Lent at 7.30 p.m. On Friday, February 20, we will have
Soup & Stations, where parishioners can enjoy soup at 6. 30
p.m. in the Church Hall, immediately before the evening
stations. See the sign-up sheet in the vestibule - please let us
know the number coming and if you will be bringing soup or
bread. The deadline for sign-up for Soup & Stations is
Tuesday, February 17.
For our ANNUAL PARISH LENTEN RETREAT this year we will
be trying something slightly different. Basil Cole, OP, will talk
at all Masses on the weekends of the Second, Third, and
Fourth weekends of Lent, namely February 28/March 1, March
7/8 and March 14/15.
SOCIAL CONCERNS
The Poor Box for the month of February is for Martha’s Table,
a nonprofit located at 2114 14th St., NW. Martha’s Table’s
Children, Youth and Family Programs provide more than 300
children and youth with nutritious meals and supervised
learning and literacy activities in a safe environment.

FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
If you would like to sponsor flowers on the altar
in memory of loved ones, living or deceased,
please print your name, phone number, and the
occasion or loved one you wish to remember on a
purple Flower Contribution envelope, which you
will find in the church vestibule. Minimum
contribution for two vases on the main altar is $75. Please
drop off your envelope in the collection basket, or call the
parish office, 301-229-7933, and your request will be posted
in the weekly bulletin.
We can only honor one individual request per weekend, so
please bear in mind that, sometimes, the date you require may
already be taken. Also, for your information, we will not be
able to accept requests for the sponsoring of flowers on
specific liturgical dates.
PRAYER AND LIFE WORKSHOPS - develop a
relationship with the Lord while learning beautiful
prayer methods each week. When you learn to pray,
you are slowly liberated and healed, and you recover
meaning and peace. The Prayer and Life Workshops started
Saturday, February 7.These workshops are LIFE CHANGING!

The Faith and Fiction Book Group will meet on Sunday, March
8, at 1:30 in the parish meeting room. The book for discussion
is The Wreath (Tiina Nunnally translation). This is the first
book of the Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy by Sigrid Undset, a
winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. The Montgomery
County Library has ample copies. All are welcome.

St. Bart's Youth Group: we are a group devoted
to learning that our Faith is not about rules but about
experiencing true happiness and growing into the best-version
of ourselves by simply doing and loving the good things of
life! Youth between 5th grade and 10th grade are always

been explained? Do you wish you could better articulate why
you believe what you believe? Beginning in Lent, St. Bart's will
offer a new study group for this purpose, using the Symbolon
course, and will meet Monday evenings for 20 weeks,
commencing February 23, from 6-7:15 p.m. in the Rectory
Meeting Room. There is a $25 registration fee; please

Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop, Saturday,
March 14, 9.00 a.m.-3.00 p.m., in the Church Hall. Centering
Prayer is a method of prayer that prepares us to receive the
gift of contemplative prayer, which is the opening of our whole
being to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words
and emotions, whom we know by faith within us. A light
breakfast will be provided, please bring your own lunch.

Join the DCCatholic in the Archdiocese of Washington for
their Annual Give 1 Day of Service on Feb. 21st. This Lent all
young adults ages 21-35 are encouraged to Give-1 day of
service to encounter those in need. Parish and alumni YA
groups are hosting service sites across the DC area in the
morning and will meet up at Buffalo Billiards Restaurant and
Bar (1330 19th St NW) around 12:30pm for lunch, fellowship,
and a reflection by Ryan Hehman of A Simple House at 1pm

2015 Annual Jubilarian Mass – Cardinal Donald Wuerl will
celebrate the annual Jubilarian Mass honoring Couples married
25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 51+ years on Sunday, June 21 at
2.00 p.m. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the

Buscamos a Jesús, como los apóstoles diciendo: Todo
el mundo te busca... La población entera se
agolpaba a la puerta. Buscan a Jesús los enfermos y
los pobres de alma y de cuerpo. Con ellos, nosotros
también buscamos a Jesús para que nos sane la
debilidad y la inconstancia, para que nos dé firmeza
en el bien y valentía en el obrar. Todo el mundo
busca a Jesús porque la humanidad está gravemente
enferma. La increencia, la debilidad en la fe, la
corrupción moral, son signos de grave enfermedad.
La humanidad necesita de Cristo y lo busca. Nosotros
hemos de ayudar a la humanidad con la oración, con
la fidelidad, con el testimonio; para que salga al
encuentro de Cristo, para que abra sus puertas a
Cristo. Nosotros, fieles al don de la vocación y misión
que cada uno ha recibido, podemos –y debemos- ser
instrumentos de salvación para el mundo.

MINISTERIO DE SAN ESTEBAN
Bajo supervisión directa de Padre Mark Knestout, éste
es un ministerio de cuidado pastoral de carácter
continuo: Los ministros de San Esteban son miembros de
la parroquia, intensamente entrenados para el cuidado de
personas que están pasando por el proceso de una
pérdida, viviendo momentos difíciles o experimentando
asuntos del pasado sin resolver… Contamos con siete
