FEBRUARY 8, 2015 LENT BEGINS WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18 To prepare for Ash Wednesday, February 18, you are asked to bring in last year’s palms and drop them off in the Church vestibule. Your blessed palms will be burned after the 9.00 a.m. Mass on Monday, February 16, to be used on Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule: 8. 00 a. m. bilingual, 9. 30 a.m., (school) and 7.30 p.m. bilingual. Stations of the Cross will be held every Friday evening during Lent at 7.30 p.m. On Friday, February 20, we will have Soup & Stations, where parishioners can enjoy soup at 6. 30 p.m. in the Church Hall, immediately before the evening stations. For our ANNUAL PARISH LENTEN RETREAT this year we will be trying something slightly different. Basil Cole, OP, will talk at all Masses on the weekends of the Second, Third, and Fourth weekends of Lent, namely February 28/March 1, March 7/8 and March 14/15. SOCIAL CONCERNS The Poor Box for the month of February is for Martha’s Table, a nonprofit located at 2114 14th St., NW. Martha’s Table’s Children, Youth and Family Programs provide more than 300 children and youth with nutritious meals and supervised learning and literacy activities in a safe environment. FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME If you would like to sponsor flowers on the altar in memory of loved ones, living or deceased, please print your name, phone number, and the occasion or loved one you wish to remember on a purple Flower Contribution envelope, which you will find in the church vestibule. Minimum contribution for two vases on the main altar is $75. Please drop off your envelope in the collection basket, or call the parish office, 301-229-7933, and your request will be posted in the weekly bulletin. We can only honor one individual request per weekend, so please bear in mind that, sometimes, the date you require may already be taken. Also, for your information, we will not be able to accept requests for the sponsoring of flowers on specific liturgical dates. PRAYER AND LIFE WORKSHOPS - develop a relationship with the Lord while learning beautiful prayer methods each week. When you learn to pray, you are slowly liberated and healed, and you recover meaning and peace. The Prayer and Life Workshops started Saturday, February 7.These workshops are LIFE CHANGING! Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop, Saturday, March 14, 9.00 a.m.-3.00 p.m., in the Church Hall. Centering Prayer is a method of prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, which is the opening of our whole being to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words and emotions, whom we know by faith within us. This Lent all young adults ages 21-35 are encouraged to Give-1 day of service to encounter those in need.
