Both contain the command of Jesus, "Love one another." Our first reading fits into this theme by depicting the early Church opening its arms to outsiders. According to the command of Jesus, the missionary work of the Church is not just to enlist new members, but much more to extend divine and human love to all, YES to all! Our readings for the sixth Sunday of Easter bring us into touch with some of the difficult and painful choices which the early Church had to make. In our first reading, the Acts of the Apostles, Peter is confronted with a choice of keeping away from Gentiles or of following God's plan for humanity. In the second reading, the Christians to whom John addressed his Epistle are struggling with whether they should love only the lovable or love with blood as Jesus did. In the Gospel, from John, Jesus at the Last Supper is telling his Apostles what difficulties the future holds for them. Pastor What is Retrouvaille? Next meeting: May 20. Page Three Question of the Week: Sixth Sunday of Easter Jesus knew the love of the Father completely. As a result, he lived in gratitude and had a willingness to give wholeheartedly of himself. When we know unconditional love from another person, we recognize the source is God, loving us through that person. We are called to love others and to live as Jesus did as a response to this love.
