St. Clare Parish 19606 Calla Way • Santa Clarita, CA 91351 REV. OLIN MAYFIELD, PASTOR Rev. Malcolm Ambrose, Associate November 8, 2015 Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time WE LONG TO SEE GOD’S FACE “Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.” This antiphon for today’s responsorial psalm offers the focus for today’s readings. As we on earth celebrate the triumph of all the saints—the ones officially canonized by the Church, and the countless others who have also reached heaven—we add nothing to their glory. But we give ourselves reason to hope. We too long to see the face of God and believe that we can one day be counted among those whose robes, as John tells us in the book of Revelation, are washed “white in the blood of the Lamb.” The passage from John’s First Letter offers further assurance: we are God’s children who will one day see God. But today’s Gospel pulls us past longing and reassurance into action. Jesus clearly tells us what we must do to be counted among the saints. We must be poor in spirit, hungry for holiness, merciful, single-hearted, and peacemakers! Then we too will see the face of God. Copyright © J. S. M H Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time SAINT CLARE PARISH Page 3 Look What’s Going on Here at St. Clare - - - We are busy! If you are new to St. Clare - you may not know this…… Every year St. Clare’s collects for and distributes Christmas baskets for families who are in need. We provide them with food for their Christmas dinner and, when families have a need for gifts for their children under 15 years of age, we help with that as well. We need your help to make this happen. There will be names passed out next weekend—November 14/15 after all Masses (and the following weekend if there are names left). There will be a table in the plaza where you can collect the name, age and size of a child for whom a gift will need to be purchased. You will be given a date by which your wrapped and tagged gift will need to be returned. If you are able, consider having your family help a family. Christmas Basket Wish List Each year we distribute Christmas baskets to families in need. Once again we need your help in gathering food for Christmas dinners. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, there are often sale prices on turkeys and canned hams. If you are able to pick up an extra turkey or a canned ham, we would greatly appreciate it. There will be a portable freezer out along the main entrance driveway just outside the kitchen in the Parish Hall beginning November 9th. Turkeys or hams can be dropped off in the portable cooler Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and after Masses on the weekend.” Also, we are collecting other food items. There will be one food drive taking place on Thanksgiving Day and the other on the 5th and 6th of December. The idea is to provide food for a Christmas meal. Think colorful when choosing canned fruits and vegetables (corn, peas, green beans, yams, etc.) Any and all extra food will be donated to the SCV Food Pantry.” Get your kids involved! Sunday, November 15th St. Clare’s Holiday Boutique (Breakfast & lunch will also be served in the Parish Hall.) In addition to handmade crafts & goodies, you will be able to order St. Clare “Spirit Wear” again — tee shirts and sweatshirts again from today through Nov. 20th—and at the Boutique. (order forms available in the vestibules and the Parish Office.) In the Youth Room 8:00am to 3:30pm Here’s a great chance to get some Christmas shopping done! All Parish Offices will be closed on Wednesday, November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday. FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT Join the Knights of Columbus as we host a family movie night on Friday, November 20th at 6:30pm. Just show up and meet new friends! Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time SAINT CLARE Page 5 Religious Education News____________________________ Gospel Reading for the Thirty-Second Sunday of Ordinary Time: Mark 12: 38-44 During this month of November, attention is given to the needy families in our community through food, clothing and collection drives. How do we respond to these pleas for help? Do we take our children out to pick up a few items to donate and teach them the importance of giving? Or do we open up our pantry/closet and see what items we have not used and plan to “throw away”? Are we giving from what is left over? Ask your children to select items for the collection drives that they would want to receive if they were in the shoes of the needy. The lesson is to give with a full heart not because of obligation and from what we don’t already want. In the Spotlight…Religious Education Classes Support the Dignity of Life of Refugees Coming To America! The Refugee Collection began this past week in all R.E. classes for grades 1st-8th. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
