And my immediate reaction, at least on the inside, was, “No! I don’t want to share.” I wanted what was mine to be mine. It didn’t matter that what was “mine” had been given to me. I can see the same dynamic going on in our first reading and Gospel reading today. Neither Joshua nor John the apostle wants to share what they see as “mine.” Joshua was jealous that the spirit given to Moses now shows up in two who were not at the right place at the right time when this spirit was given to others. John wants Jesus to stop others who are healing In Jesus’ name but who “do not follow us” (Mark 9:38). Both Jesus and Moses model proper response to God’s generosity by recognizing and rejoicing in it. Our human tendency to hoard can extend even to God’s spiritual gifts. Rejoice in God’s generosity at work wherever and in whomever it appears. Better to use your energy protecting God’s little ones, taking care not to lead them astray. Have you ever resented God’s generosity at work in unexpected places or people? Why? REGOCIJATE EN LA GENEROSIDAD DE DIOS "C omparte tus juguetes" fue uno de los primeros "mandamientos" que recuerdo me decían mis padres cuando era niño. Y mi reacción inmediata, por lo menos en el interior, era: "¡No! Yo no quiero compartir." Quería que lo que era mío fuera mío. A mí me lo habían dado. Puedo ver esta misma dinámica en la primera lectura y en el Evangelio de hoy. Ni Josué ni el apóstol Juan quieren compartir lo que ven como "suyo". Josué estaba celoso de que el espíritu dado a Moisés ahora se manifestara en dos que no estaban en el lugar correcto y en el momento adecuado, cuando este espíritu fue dado a los setenta ancianos. Juan quiere que Jesús impida que alguien haga sanaciones en su nombre porque: "no es de los nuestros" (Marcos 9:38). Tanto Jesús como Moisés dan la respuesta modelo y correcta, al reconocer y regocijarse en la generosidad de Dios. Nuestra tendencia humana de guardar sólo para nosotros, puede extenderse incluso a los dones espirituales de Dios. Regocíjate en la generosidad de Dios que trabaja y aparece en dondequiera y en quienquiera. Mejor usa tu energía para proteger a los más pequeños de Dios, teniendo cuidado de no llevarlos por mal camino. ¿Alguna vez te has sentido “celoso” de la generosidad de Dios que trabaja, en lugares inesperados o en personas inesperadas? ¿Por qué?
