We give you thanks for your grace at work in him as he had led us by word and example: in his teaching, in his prayer and in his great love. Grant him your strength in frailty, comfort in sorrow, and serenity amid the trials of this world; and guide your Church, built on the rock of Peter, with the power of your Spirit as we continue on the path that leads to you. Through Christ our Lord. Readings for the Week of March 3, 2013 Sunday, March 3- Third Sunday of Lent Ex 3:1-8a, 13-15 Ps 103:1-4, 6-8, 11 1 Cor 10:1-6, 10-12 Lk 13:1-9 From the burning bush, Moses is called by God to lead his people out of slavery into freedom. The parable of the fig tree speaks, on one hand, of God’s patience, but of the urgency of the call to conversion, on the other. Like the Hebrews of old, we too have failed to heed God’s call, thinking ourselves to be self-righteous. Monday, March 4 - Lenten Weekday 2 Kgs 5:1-15b Ps 42:2-3; 43:3-4 Lk 4:24-30 As Elisha cured Naaman the Syrian in the waters of the Jordan, so Jesus promises healing salvation for all. Tuesday, March 5 - Lenten Weekday Dn 3:25, 34-43 Ps 25:4bc-5ab, 6-7bc, 8-9 Mt 18:21-35 If we wish to follow the Lord’s ways unreservedly, we must forgive one another from the heart. Wednesday, March 6 - Lenten Weekday Dt 4:1, 5-9 Ps 147:12-13, 15-16, 19-20 Mt 5:17-19 Israel is exhorted to keep God’s covenant which has been proclaimed. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the prophets. Thursday, March 7 - Lenten Weekday Jer 7:23-28 Ps 95:1-2, 6-9 Lk 11:14-23 Return to the Lord and be one with him. Listen to his voice and obey his commands. Friday, March 8- Lenten Weekday Hos 14:2-10 Ps 81:6c-11b, 14, 17 Mk 12:28-34 By observing the two great commandments, you will walk in the paths of the Lord. Saturday, March 9 - Lenten Weekday Hos 6:1-6 Ps 51:3-4, 18-21b Lk 18:9-14 It is love that the Lord desires, not sacrifice, he longs for sincerity and humility of heart. Sunday, March 10—Fourth Sunday of Lent Jos 5:9a, 10-12 Ps 34:2-7 2Cor 5:17-21 Lk 15:1-3, 11-32 Having arrived in the promised land, the Hebrews celebrated their deliverance from affliction and distress in the Passover. Christ, our Passover, had entrusted to us the message of reconciliation; let us forgive one another and celebrate the unconditional & abundant love of God our Father. Question for youth: What needs changing in your life right now? How will you invite God into that change? Question for adults: What steps are you taking this Lent to make sure that your faith bears fruit in good works? Take these activities to further reflect: • • • • Lent provides us with an opportunity to change our hearts. Encourage family members to spend quiet time listening to God this week. Reflect on the question: Are we living as God intended, or do we need to change some things in our life? Take time later in the week to discuss the changes family members need to make in their lives. Talk about how God has helped your family grow this past week. Look at the plants in your home or yard. Do they need pruning or replanting or fertilizing to grow stronger? Do this as a family, remembering our own need for conversion and growth. Plan to attend your parish Lenten Reconciliation service as a family. Gather together as a family to examine how the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are coming along. Use this week as a time to turn your hearts back to God. Have each family member name one or two things he or she will do as a sign of wanting to return to God. www.lasalettecanton.com Third Sunday of Lent Stewardship: _ _ _ Page 5 A disciple’s prayerful response to God’s blessings!
