Smith Chess Club will start Tuesday September 13th. Players and parents at any level of experience that are serious about wanting to learn or improve existing skills are welcome. Maximum 20 students (because of limited sets and boards). Studies have shown that students exposed to the discipline, patience, and creative problem solving involved in chess often see improvements in all areas of their schoolwork. Chess is a standard part of the curriculum in many countries for this reason. Chess is also a ton of fun! Students will be required to participate in at least one of the three local scholastic chess tournaments held in the fall, winter, and spring.
