Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta, 7
Each year on December 1, the Archdiocese of Atlanta celebrates a diocesanwide World AIDS Day Mass. This is a chance for people from across the
Archdiocese of Atlanta to come together in community, remembering and
praying for those we have lost due to HIV/AIDS and those currently living with
HIV/AIDS; their families, friends and caretakers; those who work to find a cure
and those who work to bring about just programs and systems associated with
HIV/AIDS.

The Giving Tree helps make Christmas a day
of joy for many in need throughout the neighborhood. Starting next weekend, kindly
remove an angel tag from the tree in the

requested gift, affix the tag to the outside of
the wrapped gift, and return it no later than
December 13.

ffatl.org or call 770-924-3920. The suggested donation for the retreat and dinner is $20

questions and help you choose a family.

Provide Scholarships to IHM School While Reaping a 100% Tax Credit
It’s the Only Donation That Literally Comes Back to You!!
Go to www.gracescholars.org to fill out the online registration form.
What is GRACE Scholars? GRACE Scholars, Inc. is a tax-exempt charity
that allows taxpayers to redirect state taxes to provide tuition assistance to
students with financial need right in our parish school. You receive a 100
percent credit against your Georgia state income taxes.
Why should I participate? You participation provides tuition assistance
to families who otherwise could not afford tuition. IHM is one of the schools
you can support through GRACE.
What’s in it for me? As a Georgia state taxpayer you can choose to redirect part of your taxes to IHM
School, thus supporting the work of our parish school. In addition, you recapture these redirected taxes
through an income tax credit, a dollar for dollar reduction in your tax liability. GRACE is a tax exempt
charity so your gift to GRACE also qualifies as a charitable contribution under federal law.
How do I give? Giving is simple. You can find everything online at
www.gracescholars.com.
How much do I qualify to give and still receive a dollar for dollar tax credit?
A single/head of household can contribute the lesser of tax liability or $1,000;
married/filling jointly can contribute the lesser of tax liability or $2,500; and those
married/filing separately can contribute the lesser of tax liability or $1,250.
When should I do this? Now! Supporters of GRACE Scholars and dozens more
scholarship organizations are all competing for these same dollars for their favorite
private/parochial schools. If you do not register before December 15, you risk not
being able to participate in the program. The $58M in state funds will be fully
allocated on January 1, 2016, so don’t wait!
How does a tax credit differ from a tax deduction? A tax credit is significantly
more beneficial than a deduction. A credit reduces your Georgia taxes dollar-for-dollar. A deduction reduces the taxable income to which the applicable tax rate is applied.
Director of Development Jennifer Sedlack is available to explain the program further. Do not hesitate to
contact her at [email protected] or 404-636-4488.

Mark Your Calendars: One-Hour Advent Retreats
Are you tired of seeing the Christmas decorations come out earlier and earlier? Do
you want a deeper understanding and fuller experience of the season of Advent? On
December 6 and December 20, Martha Gross will be holding one-hour “miniretreats” to help draw us into the mystery of Advent. She will also discuss the
Jubilee Year of Mercy, which begins on December 8. These sessions will take place
in the school library in between the morning Masses (10:15-11:15).
Martha Gross holds both a Master of Theological Studies and a Certificate in
Spiritual Direction from Spring Hill College. She has been leading retreats at the
Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers for the past ten years.
Scripture Study: Thursday mornings and evenings
Each Thursday, Dr. Louanne Bachner leads an informative and prayerful discussion
of the lectionary readings for the following Sunday. These classes meet in the
Lower Level at two different times: 9:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. There is no registration
required and no fees to participate. Feel free to join the group as your schedule permits.
Are You Called to be a Catechist?
We always welcome new catechists to help teach at all age levels. If you would like
to help others understand and live their faith more fully, please consider one of the
following opportunities:
Adult Faith Formation (Sundays, 10:15-11:15; other times, as announced)
Middle School Youth Ministry (Wednesday nights, 7:00-8:30)
High School Youth Ministry (Sunday afternoons, 3:00-4:30)
Elementary Age--G.I.F.T. Program (Saturdays, 2:00-3:30 or Sundays, 10:15-11:15)
Liturgy of the Word for Children (During 9:00 or 11:30 Mass)
Contact Drew Denton or Alicia Guerrero for more information on how to get
involved.
What is Liturgy of the Word for Children?
The Liturgy of the Word for Children offers
children, ages 4-7, the opportunity to hear
God’s Word in an accessible and engaging
format. They listen to the scriptures, say the
Creed, and offer their prayers in language
appropriate to their age-level. We offer the
Children’s Liturgy at 9:00 and 11:30 Mass
throughout the school year. No registration is
required; simply send your children forward
when the priest or deacon calls them.
Adults are welcome in the Children’s Liturgy too! If you are interested in helping
with this ministry, please contact Drew Denton ([email protected]).

GRACE Scholars is a Georgia nonprofit corporation and tax exempt charity. GRACE has met the
requirements for designation as a student scholarship organization (SSO) in Georgia. Because
GRACE is an SSO, Georgia taxpayers can redirect part of their tax liability to GRACE and
qualify for a generous tax benefit created by the Georgia legislature – a 100 percent tax credit. As
GRACE is a tax exempt charity (501-c-3 organization), gifts to GRACE are also qualify
charitable contributions under federal law. For more information on how to redirect your tax
dollars to Catholic education, visit www.gracescholars.org.

“All This I Do For the Sake of the Gospel”
We have reached our goal in pledges for the 2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal! But we really should be achieving TWICE our goal
each year, since AAA funds received over and above our goal return
to us at IHM without any Archdiocesan assessment! Our gifts help
the charitable works of the Archdiocese AND they help our parish.
If you have not already made a pledge to the 2015 AAA, please visit
http://appeal.archatl.com to make your pledge today!
Thank you to all who have already pledged! Remember to look for
your monthly pledge reminders, and please do your best to honor
your pledge before the end of the year. If you are having any
difficulty whatsoever with your pledge or pledge reminders, please
contact Richard Plachta at [email protected] or 404-6361418, ext. 245.

GIVING TREE
El
Giving Tree durante las
Navidades, contribuye a la alegría de
los tantos que están necesitados en
nuestras vecindades.
generosidad.
"“Nuestras comunidades parroquiales deben
Inmaculate Heart of Mary (IHM).
Inmediatamente después de la misa habrá una recepción ofrecida por el
Ministerio de VIH/SIDA de IHM en la Iglesia Histórica.
