"If You Were Raised With Christ, Seek What Is Above"
The readings during these past Sundays have been taking us on a spiritual path to
place Jesus in the most prominent position in our hearts. I have been preaching to my people in Christ the King about choosing Christ as the "Best Part." As Jesus said, “Only one
thing is necessary.” This "One Thing" is the presence of our Savior Jesus Christ, the
"Good," above every other good.
Now if Jesus is really the "Good" that fulfills the deepest desires and needs of our souls, why are we so easily distracted in the passing things of this world - vanity of vanities - as the first reading tells us? It is time to listen
to God's calling and be obedient to His voice and His mission. Let us stop giving excuses to delay our answer and
let us join the work of the Church. There is no time to wait. It is today that we need to bring more people to Jesus; it
is today that we need to act together to bring the gospel to our youth in Long Branch; it is today that the parish needs
you to support our programs--catechism, prayer groups, Rosary Altar Society, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, altar servers, Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers, lectors, Saint Vincent de Paul Society, social concern
group, bereavement ministry, ushers, and sacristans. These groups and others are constantly taking place in our parish to make this community vibrant in faith and help us proclaim that Jesus is the center of our life and that here in
our parish Christ IS the King.
I would like you to think about what, in a very concrete way, are the signs that manifest that you have chosen Jesus as the best part. He will not be taken from you.
May the Lord in His kindness keep calling you to a more committed and holy life. May God bless you and may the
Blessed Mother protect you.

Durante los últimos domingos las lecturas nos están recordando escoger a Cristo como nuestra mejor parte,
el bien mayor que debemos anhelar y colocar en el centro de nuestras vidas. Recuerda las palabras del Evangelio
"María ha escogido la mejor parte y no le será quitada." Y la semana pasada una invitación a la oración constante, y
este domingo nos invita a no dejarnos distraer de las cosas pasajeras de este mundo, de los bienes que nos engañan y
quieren anteponerse a los bienes eternos.
No podemos seguir posponiendo nuestra respuesta al Señor, el momento es ahora, hoy, sin mas excusas. El
llamado de Cristo necesita ser respondido concretamente, por eso como tu pastor en esta parroquia de Cristo Rey, te
invito en el nombre del Señor a empezar a trabajar hoy para llevar a cabo la obra del Evangelio, que es responsabilidad de todos. Nuestra respuesta a Dios tiene que expresarse de forma concreta. Esta parroquia necesita tu apoyo con
nuestros programas; con la catequesis, los grupos de oración, los servidores del altar, la sociedad de santo rosario, el
Santo Nombre, Caballeros de Colón, la sociedad de San Vicente de Paul, o de "Social Concerns", o el ministerio de
consuelo (ante los funerales), los grupos de actividades parroquiales, el grupo de la limpieza y tantas otras actividades que se desarrollan en esta comunidad para hacer nuestra parroquia dinámica en la fe y que sea realmente Cristo
nuestro Rey. Piensa como quieres responder a tu compromiso como cristiano y manifestar concretamente con
obras que Jesús es el centro de tu vida. Que Dios te bendiga y nuestra Madre Celestial te proteja.
