Thank You for your generosity!
Dear Fr. Christopher Plant, Fr. Nicolas Ramirez and the parishioners of St. Bartholomew’s parish,
Thank you so very much for
the opportunity to share with you the work of the Houston Coalition for Life
the weekend of October 1st and 2nd. I am so happy to tell you that because of your generosity, the total
from the second collection from all of the Masses was $31,965.65 which enabled us to meet the
matching grant of $30,000 that was offered to us!
Two very generous parishioners were the donors of the matching grant, one for $25,000 and another for
$5000.
Through the grace of God over 4,500 abortion-vulnerable moms, that we have had the privilege to serve,
have chosen life for their unborn children. We serve them by offering free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds and Christian Counseling in our mobile crisis pregnancy centers that we affectionately call the
Big Blue Bus and Baby Blue.
It is because of you that we are able to do this work! Through your prayers and financial support, moms
and babies are being saved from the horror of abortion. Thank you again so very much!
Christine Melchor
Executive Director
Houston Coalition for Life
I’ve had hundreds of women and men tell me about
their abortion experiences. The pain, regret and
Abortion
sorrow of an abortion does not go away overnight.
And the rhetoric of the
abortion industry and the
slogans of politicians do not bring healing. Whether OCTOBER 27, 2016
it’s a woman who had an abortion 10, 20, or even 30
years ago — or a boyfriend who paid for an abortion
— the pain is there. Your prayer presence is often an
invitation to healing. “Can we talk?” is a frequent
question at a vigil from strangers who just walk up. It
could be someone who’s thinking about abortion …
or someone who’s had an abortion. Seeing the
prayer vigil day after day serves as a witness to God’s
love and mercy.
DAY 30:
doesn’t go away
40 Days for Life is certainly a conversation starter.
Sometimes that conversation may have been decades in
the making … so never underestimate how God will use
your presence!

DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION
Holy Hour is observed every Friday from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the
Chapel, including Intercessory Prayer, Divine Mercy Chaplet,
Stations of the Cross, Consecration Prayer, and a Rosary.
Divine Mercy is prayed every day at 3:00 pm the chapel.
“Your task is to write down everything that I make known to you about My
mercy for the benefit of those who by reading these things will be comforted
in their souls and will have the courage to approach Me.” (Diary, 1693)
From the Diary of St. Faustina
Open Your Heart
Tell souls not to place within their own hearts obstacles to
My mercy, which so greatly wants to act within them. My
mercy works in all those hearts which open their doors
to it. Both the sinner and the righteous person have need
of My mercy. Conversion, as well as perseverance, is a grace
of My mercy. (Diary #1577)
For more information on the Divine Mercy Devotions,
please contact Maria Beck at 832-618-0726.
Mass Intention Requests
Intentions are available on a first come first served basis. Please come to the office and
complete a request form. Sorry, no intentions can be accepted over the phone. An
offering of $5 is requested for the priest celebrating the Mass. Please include full names
so that the presider may be sure to properly announce the intention. We also need your
name and phone number. Intentions are most often for the deceased, but can also be for
the living, i.e. birthday blessings, anniversaries, or in thanksgiving. Questions?

Outreach / Respect Life
Prayer for Changing the Culture
by Fr. Frank Pavone, M.E.V.
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we come into
your presence in His name.
We have heard the voice of your Son,
And therefore we can make our voices heard.
We have been justified in the blood of your Son,
And therefore we can oppose every form of injustice.
We have repented of our sins,
And therefore we can lead the sinner to repentance.
We have done battle with the power of evil,
And therefore we can have compassion on those still
within its grip.
We have been freed from the kingdom of darkness,
And therefore we can bear witness to your Kingdom of
Light.
Lord, as we come before you today, we repent, we resolve,
and we rejoice.
We repent of every instance in which fear has made us
silent when we should have spoken.
We repent of the ongoing bloodshed in our land,
And for ever daring to think that we can deprive the unborn
of protection but keep it for ourselves.
We resolve that we will work more generously to advance
your Kingdom.
We resolve that we will advance the cause of righteous
candidates for public office,
And that we will be more afraid of offending you by our
silence. Than of offending the IRS by our speech.
We resolve that we will declare boldly to our people that no
public official who fails to respect the life of a little baby
can be trusted to respect our lives.
Father, today we rejoice, because we are not simply
working for victory - we are working from victory.
The victory of life, truth, and grace has been won by your
Son's death and Resurrection.
Today we hear his voice again.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the
End. I hold the keys of death and of hell.
Behold, I make all things new."
Father, we rejoice that we have been made new,
And as we work to renew our culture
We look forward to the great day of his coming,
When every eye will see him, even of those who pierced
him,
And every knee shall bend, and every tongue confess, to
the glory of God the Father,
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!
In his Blessed Name we pray. Amen!

What is Spiritual
Direction?
Sometimes we need a caring
presence to walk with us on our
spiritual journey and help us reflect
on our relationship with God. This can
bring much needed clarity
and spiritual growth.
Spiritual Direction is, in reality, nothing
more than a way of leading us to see
and obey the real
Director—The Holy Spirit
hidden in the depths of our soul.
For an appointment please call
Irma Gonzales 281-798-4723 or email

or Ruth Henning 281-734-5502

(ON LOVE IN THE FAMILY
by Pope Francis ~ March-19-2016)
APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION: Amoris Laetitia
CHAPTER ONE
IN THE LIGHT OF THE WORD
YOUR CHILDREN ARE
AS THE SHOOTS OF AN OLIVE TREE
THE CURRENT REALITY OF THE FAMILY
39. We can hardly cease warning against a cultural decline, a
culture of the ephemeral. Consider the speed with which
people move from one affective relationship to another. Along
the lines of the social networks, love can be connected or
disconnected at a whim. There, too, are the fears associated
with permanent commitment, those relationships that weigh
costs and benefits. We treat affective relationships like
material objects. Everything is disposable. It is exploited.
Squeezed to the last drop. Then tossed. Narcissism makes
for people incapable of looking beyond themselves. Yet those
who use others end up used themselves, manipulated and
discarded. Break-ups often occur among older adults who
seek a kind of independence. They reject the ideal of growing
old together supportive of one another.
40. We might say that we live in a culture that pressures
young people not to start a family because they lack
possibilities for the future. Yet, this same culture presents
others with so many options that they too are dissuaded from
starting a family. Many young people postpone a wedding for
economic reasons, work or study. Others might be influenced
by ideologies, the failure of other couples, social opportunities
and economic benefits found in simply living together. It might
also be the rejection of something conceived of as purely
institutional. We need to find the right language to reach the
minds and hearts of young people, touching their generosity,
commitment, love and even heroism.
41. The Synod Fathers noted that today’s cultural tendencies
set no limits on a person’s affective state, a narcissistic and
unstable affectivity does not always allow for personal maturity.
They expressed concern about the spread of pornography and
the commercialization of the body, fostered by the misuse of
the internet. Couples are often uncertain, struggling to find
ways to grow, remaining in the early stages of their affective
and sexual life. A crisis in the couple’s relationship may
destabilize the family, leading to separation or divorce with
serious consequences for adults, children and society.
Failures give rise to new relationships that can be highly
complex and problematic for the Christian life.
