Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every
Saturday morning in the lower church from 8:00AM to
9:00AM. Come at any time during this Holy Hour to pray
in the presence of the Eucharistic Lord. Benediction takes
place at 8:50 AM.

MOVE TO UPPER CHURCH
Now that summer has come to an end, we will be moving most of our Sunday Masses to the upper church. This
move will occur this Sunday, October 5th. The 5:00PM
Saturday Mass, 8:00AM Sunday Mass, and 4:00PM Sunday Urdu Mass, will continue to be held in the lower
church.

The sick members of our community are invited to a
parish celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of
the Sick on Sunday, October 19th, at a 3:00PM Mass,
followed by a social at St. Joseph Center. The entrance
from Newkirk Avenue, which is wheelchair accessible,
will be open for the occasion.
Parishioners who wish to pray with and for the sick,
but are not necessarily in need of the Sacrament, are also
encouraged to attend the Eucharist.

TODAY’S READINGS
SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
First Reading - The vineyard of the LORD is the house of
Israel (Isaiah 5:1-7).
Psalm - The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel
(Psalm 80).
Second Reading - God’s peace will guard your hearts
and minds (Philippians 4:6-9).
Gospel - The kingdom of God will be given to those who
will produce its fruit (Matthew 21:33-43)

THE GIFT OF THE REIGN OF GOD
Matthew’s Gospel today expands on Isaiah’s ballad
considerably. A comparison with the same story in
Mark’s Gospel clearly shows us that here the author is
busy teaching this community of Jewish Christians: “This
is a story about Israel a long time ago; this is also a story
about Jesus and the skeptical leaders.”
Jesus as much as told these Jewish leaders that they
were the tenants who first stoned their own prophets. And
he told the leaders they were the tenants who would soon
even dispose of him - Jesus - and, in doing so, would
forfeit their privileged place of presenting to the world the
promised Messiah.
“And this,” says Matthew’s Gospel, “is a story about
you, the inheritors of what was first offered to Israel.”
The reign of God was first opened to Israel and is now
given to the whole world, but it must be received as a gift.
The first Christians are the new tenants in the vineyard.
The deeper reality of the reign or kingdom of God is that
it is available to everyone on the face of the earth - Israel
included.

FEAST OF FAITH
The Sign of Peace
“Greet one another with a holy kiss,” wrote Saint Paul
to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 16:20), and he said the
same thing to other communities as well. The holy kiss,
the sign of peace, has been a hallmark of Christians from
the very beginning. In giving and receiving the sign of
peace, we are not giving something of our own, but
something that Christ has given to us. “Peace I leave with
you, my peace I give to you,” Jesus told his disciples
(John 14:27). Jesus comes to us when we gather together
in community. We celebrate the Eucharist not just to
receive spiritual nourishment to help us on our solitary
way to salvation, but to be transformed into one body, the
Body of Christ in the world. As we receive the Eucharist,
we are not only united to Christ; we are united to each
other. It is never easy to live in community, and we hurt
each other on the way. So we need to turn to each other in
a sign of reconciliation and forgiveness, to look into each
other’s eyes, and give and receive the peace that is not
ours, but Christ’s.

XXVII NIEDZIELA OKRESU ZWYKŁEGO
Chcę zaśpiewać memu Przyjacielowi pieśń o Jego
miłości ku swojej winnicy! Przyjaciel mój miał winnicę na
żyznym pagórku. Otóż okopał ją i oczyścił z kamieni i
zasadził w niej szlachetną winorośl; pośrodku niej
zbudował wieżę, także i tłocznię w niej wykuł. I
spodziewał się, że wyda winogrona, lecz ona cierpkie
wydała jagody. Teraz więc, o mieszkańcy Jeruzalem i
mężowie z Judy, rozsądźcie, proszę, między Mną a między
winnicą moją. Co jeszcze miałem uczynić winnicy mojej,
a nie uczyniłem w niej? Czemu, gdy czekałem, by
winogrona wydała, ona cierpkie dała jagody? Więc
dobrze! Pokażę wam, co uczynię winnicy mojej: rozbiorę
jej żywopłot, by ją rozgrabiono; rozwalę jej ogrodzenie,
by ją stratowano. Zamienię ją w pustynię, nie będzie
przycinana ni plewiona, tak iż wzejdą osty i ciernie.
Chmurom zakażę spuszczać na nią deszcz. Otóż winnicą
Pana Zastępów jest dom Izraela, a ludzie z Judy szczepem
Jego wybranym. Oczekiwał On tam sprawiedliwości, a
oto rozlew krwi, i prawowierności, a oto krzyk grozy.
Izajasz 5:1-7
Był pewien gospodarz, który założył winnicę. Otoczył
ją murem, wykopał w niej tłocznię, zbudował wieżę, w
końcu oddał ją w dzierżawę rolnikom i wyjechał. Gdy
nadszedł czas zbiorów, posłał swoje sługi do rolników, by
odebrali plon jemu należny. Ale rolnicy chwycili jego
sługi i jednego obili, drugiego zabili, trzeciego zaś
ukamienowali. Wtedy posłał inne sługi, więcej niż za
pierwszym razem, lecz i z nimi tak samo postąpili. W
końcu posłał do nich swego syna, tak sobie myśląc:
Uszanują mojego syna. Lecz rolnicy zobaczywszy syna
mówili do siebie: To jest dziedzic; chodźcie zabijmy go, a
posiądziemy jego dziedzictwo. Chwyciwszy go, wyrzucili z
winnicy i zabili. Kiedy więc właściciel winnicy przyjdzie,
co uczyni z owymi rolnikami?

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
JESIENNA MSZA ŚW. W GÓRNYM KOŚCIELE
Wraz z końcem upałów letnich oraz początkiem
jesieni, wracamy do kalendarza liturgicznego w górnym
kościele. Już od pierwszej niedziele października, czyli
za tydzień, Msze św. Niedzielne, za wyjatkiem sobotniej
mszy po angielsku z godz. 17:00 oraz niedzielnej o 8:00
rano, będą miały miejsce w górnym kościele.
Miłosierny Bóg dba o nas, ofiarowując każdemu dary
potrzebne dla życia doczesnego i wiecznego. O nic nie
musimy się zbytnio troszczyć. Jeśli ufamy Bogu, Jego
pokój napełnia nasze myśli i serca. Musimy jednak być
czujni, byśmy nie stali się podobni do winnicy, która
pomimo starań gospodarza wydała cierpkie jagody. Albo
do
niewdzięcznych
i przewrotnych
rolników,
lekceważących swego Pana. Z wdzięcznością przyjmijmy
dziś Chrystusa, który przychodzi do nas, aby nas odnowić
i nakarmić swoim słowem i Ciałem.

Cuando proclames paz con tus labios, cuídate de
EL REGALO DEL REINO DE DIOS
El Evangelio de hoy según san Mateo amplía
considerablemente la balada de Isaías. Una comparación
con el mismo relato en el Evangelio según san Marcos
muestra que aquí el autor se ocupa de enseñar a su
comunidad de judío-cristianos: “Este es un relato sobre el
Israel de antaño; y es también un relato sobre Jesús y los
dudosos líderes”.
Jesús llegó a decir a estos líderes judíos que ellos eran
los viñadores que primero apedrearon a sus propios
profetas. Y le dijo a los líderes que ellos eran los
viñadores que pronto se desharían de él, Jesús, y que, al
hacerlo, renunciarían a su papel privilegiado de presentar
al Mesías prometido al mundo.
“Y éste”, dice el Evangelio según san Mateo, “es un
relato sobre ustedes, los herederos de lo que fue
primeramente ofrecido a Israel”. El Reino de Dios fue
abierto primero para Israel y ahora es ofrecido a todo el
mundo, pero debe ser recibido como un regalo. Los
primeros cristianos son los nuevos viñadores. La más
profunda realidad del Reino de Dios es que está a
disposición de toda persona sobre la faz de la tierra,
incluso a Israel.
