Bienvenida del Nuevo
Directorio
E
sta es la primera nota editorial desde
que el nuevo Directorio fue elegido a
finales del año pasado. Durante los
primeros meses, el Directorio ha estado concentrado en realizar una planificación estratégica que nos permita, como Cámara, tener un
horizonte para los próximos dos años.
El éxito de la Cámara dependerá de cuanto
valor somos capaces de agregar a nuestros
socios para lo cual es importante conocer
sobre sus expectativas. Durante el mes de enero y febrero, nuestro Gerente General visitó
a 21 socios con el fin de obtener sus opiniones. Esta tarea fue complementada con encuestas individualizadas que nos permitieron
llegar a un mayor número de los mismos.
En el mes de marzo, y gracias al apoyo de la
Embajada Británica, nuestro Gerente General
viajó a Chile donde se reunió con la Cámara
Chilena y la Embajada Británica con el fin de
intercambiar experiencias.
Los comentarios de socios así como la visita
a Chile, le permitió al directorio de la cámara
definir los siguientes objetivos, que se irán
ejecutando de manera gradual en función de
la capacidad operativa de la Cámara:
1. Brindar información comercial oportuna
sobre potenciales negocios en Ecuador y
Reino Unido.
2. Apoyar a empresas socias en la consecución de nuevos negocios en Ecuador
y Reino Unido.
3. Capacitar e informar sobre temas de interés empresarial y difundir programas
educativos del Reino Unido
4. Comunicar a los socios sobre las actividades de la Cámara y el trabajo del Directorio.
5. Afianzar la estructura administrativa y
operativa de la CICEB
La Cámara seguirá apoyando, por su importancia estratégica, a la certificación S2M y
CIAM con el fin de fortalecerlos y consolidarlos.

T
his is the first editor’s note since the new
Board of Directors was elected at the end
of last year. During its first few months, the
Board has concentrated on developing a strategic
plan which will give us, the Chamber, a clear horizon
for the next two years.
The Chamber’s success will depend on the added
value we are able to give our members hence it is
important to be aware of their expectations. In January and February, our General Manager visited 21
members aiming to gather their opinions. This task
was complemented with personalised surveys which
enabled us to reach a larger number of members.
In March, thanks to the support from the British Embassy, our General Manager travelled to Chile where
he met with the Chilean Chamber and Embassy with
the purpose of exchanging experiences.
Our members’ comments, as much as the trip to
Chile, enabled the Board to define the following
objectives, which will be gradually implemented according to the Chamber’s operative capacity.
1. Provide opportune commercial information
about potential business ventures in Ecuador
and the UK.
2. Support member firms in the acquisition of new
business in Ecuador and the UK.
3. Train for and inform about topics of business interest and disseminate education programmes
from the UK
4. Communicate to our members information
about the Chamber’s activities and the work of
the Board.
5. Strengthen the administrative and operative
structure of the Chamber.
The Chamber continues supporting, for their strategic importance, the S2M Certification and CIAM
with the objective of strengthening and consolidating
them.

Bajo un convenio bilateral entre los gobiernos de Ecuador y Gran Bretaña, The British School Quito (BSQ)
se fundó en 1995. Kerry Tyler-Pascoe, directora de la
institución, explica que “Aunque desarrollamos el currículo británico, nuestra comunidad educativa es culturalmente sensitiva a los valores de todas las culturas, con
énfasis en la cultura ecuatoriana”.
Un principio fundamental es promover el respeto a uno
mismo y a todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad. Adicionalmente, es un
propósito importante que nuestros estudiantes trabajen mejor en un ambiente
afectuoso, seguro, estimulante y de apoyo mutuo.
El BSQ se especializa en las áreas de Ciencia, Matemáticas, habilidades de orden superior del pensamiento, idiomas (bilingüismo). Kerry subraya “Si como
padres escogemos proporcionar a nuestros niños desde muy pequeños, la posibilidad de aprender ambos idiomas, los estaremos preparando para un futuro
lleno de oportunidades”.
Trabajamos con el Perfil del Bachillerato Internacional; el programa preuniversitario más reconocido en el mundo entero para el ingreso de universidades de
más alto prestigio. El objetivo del BI es formar personas con mentalidad internacional que, conscientes de la condición que los une como seres humanos
y de la responsabilidad que comparten de velar por el planeta, contribuyan a
crear un mundo mejor y más pacífico.
Patrick Mullee, embajador británico, comentó “El Diploma del BI es sumamente
reconocido por las universidades británicas; lo sé por experiencia propia, ya
que mi primera hija fue admitida en la Universidad de Edimburgo, una de las
universidades líderes en Gran Bretaña, gracias a sus estudios en el BSQ y a su
éxito en el BI”.
The British School Quito (BSQ) was founded in 1995, under a bilateral agreement made between British and the
Ecuadorian governments. The school’s Director, Kerry
Tyler–Pascoe said that “Whilst we are using the British
curriculum, we are aware of and sensitive towards the
values and beliefs in all cultures, particularly the Ecuadorian culture”.
One core value is to promote self-respect and be respectful towards one another in our community. I addition, our
main objective is to provide a safe, caring, warm, stimulating learning environment.
The school specialises in the areas of Science, Mathematics, language (bilingualism)
and higher order thinking skills. Kerry emphasised that, “If as parents we provide an
opportunity to our children, from a very young age, to be immersed in a bilingual
learning environment, we will be preparing them for a future full of opportunities”.
We offer the IB Diploma, which is the most recognised and accepted pre-university
program in the world. The IB Diploma offers its recipients an opportunity to study at
the best universities worldwide. The goal of an IB education is to create responsible,

veces pensamos haberlo visto todo y sentimos que hemos llegado a conocer a la humanidad y de repente, como quien baja una
fruta madura de un árbol utilizando una piedra,
recibimos bofetadas que nos demuestran que el
hombre nunca nos dejará de sorprender, no solo
por su capacidad de inventiva, los desarrollos
tecnológicos, la creatividad artística y el deseo de
superación en lo deportivo, sino por su increíble
capacidad de engañar. El último en sorprender al
mundo con sus acciones fue el señor Lance Armstrong, ejemplo de superación durante muchos
años, quien nos demostró valentía, fortaleza y
deseo de superación, ganando un sin número de
competencias, incluidas siete tours de Francia
consecutivos. De manera deshonesta. Cuando
salió a la luz la noticia, sentí una profunda decepción y supe entonces que jamás terminaremos de
conocer al hombre.

Rotten Fruit
A
t times we think we’ve seen it all and feel that
we’ve finally been able to understand the human
race when suddenly, like he who tries to pick a
ripe fruit using a stone, we are hit by the reality that man
will never fail to surprise us. It is not only because of
his inventiveness, technological advances, artistic creativity and strive for athletic improvement, but also for
his surprising capability to cheat and lie. The last man
to surprise the world with his actions was Mr. Lance
Armstrong, a role model for overcoming difficulties over
many years, who showed courage, strength and desire
for self-improvement by winning various competitions,
including seven consecutive Tour de France titles. By

a nuestra puerta y nuestros antiguos colaboradores, en quienes confiamos y a quienes valoramos como profesionales y personas, deciden un
día iniciar estas prácticas desde empresas del
mismo sector, sobre todo incursionando, además
con aspavientos en la llamada “piratería laboral”.
La piratería laboral consiste en utilizar los conocimientos propios de las operaciones de una empresa para luego competir deslealmente con ella
desde otra en su misma rama de trabajo, mintiendo a clientes para robar sus cuentas, atrayendo a
empleados de su antigua empresa con prácticas
deshonestas, divulgando conocimientos propietarios y secretos operacionales, etc.
Lamentablemente en nuestro País, la piratería laboral no está del todo rechazada como una práctica
desleal, y algunas empresas animan a sus ejecutivos a practicarla como una especie de "viveza
criolla" para ganarle a la competencia. Jamás estaremos en contra del desarrollo y el crecimiento
de nuestros ejecutivos, eso nunca. Lo único que
esperamos es que su trabajo en los nuevos derroteros que han decidido o les ha tocado tomar

During his life, Steve Jobs, one of the greatest innovators in the world, became an inspiration to us all by
showing us the importance of simplicity and originality
with his brand Apple, that now dominates many markets.
Jobs also exemplified honest and ethical work in the
area of technology, where business secrets are invaluable and disloyal competition is a daily practice. A business is the reflection of its employees, therefore many
businessmen and executives decide not to respond with
low blows when we feel cheated; we simply try to face
the clients and the community with the truth, with quality
products and services, and with the peace of mind that
the rotten fruit is not in our basket.
Mientras vivió, uno de los más grandes innovadores del mundo, Steve Jobs, se convirtió en un
ser inspirador que nos mostró la importancia de
la sencillez y la originalidad con su marca Apple
que hoy domina muchos mercados. Jobs también
representa el ejemplo de trabajo probo y ético,
en un área como es la de la tecnología, donde
los secretos empresariales son invalorables y la
competencia desleal es pan de cada día. Una empresa es el reflejo de sus colaboradores, por esa
razón muchos empresarios y ejecutivos tomamos
la decisión de no responder con ataques bajos
cuando nos sentimos traicionados, simplemente
buscamos la forma de darle la cara al cliente y a
la comunidad con la verdad, con productos y servicios de calidad, y con la tranquilidad de saber
que la fruta podrida ya no está en nuestro frutero.

En primer lugar, cuéntenos un poco acerca el rol del
Instituto Nacional de Preinversión en Ecuador.
El rol principal del instituto es ayudar a cumplir
los objetivos nacionales del desarrollo que están
en el Plan Nacional para el Buen Vivir y mejorar
la calidad de la inversión pública, porque si tenemos buenos estudios vamos a tener buenas obras que funcionarán bien. Nosotros hacemos estudios en sectores estratégicos y, una vez que los
terminamos, los pasamos a los ministerios para
que ellos construyan las obras.
¿Cómo se alinea la estrategia del INP con el Plan
Nacional de Desarrollo para el periodo 2009-2013,
también conocido como el ‘Plan Nacional para el
Buen Vivir’?
Nosotros apuntamos a una economía terciara
exportadora o una economía de servicios, y
nuestros dos objetivos principales buscan un
cambio en la matriz energética y en la matriz productiva. Cambiar la matriz energética mediante
proyectos de energía renovable para dejar de depender de fuentes de petróleo, y cambiar la matriz
productiva para sustituir importaciones. En esas
dos áreas principales apuntamos a estos objetivos de desarrollo.
¿Qué factores se toman en cuenta cuando se
realizan los estudios de proyectos propuestos?
Tenemos algunos criterios y el principal es apun-

Firstly, tell us a bit about the role of National Institute of PreInvestment in Ecuador.
The institute’s main role is to help achieve development
objectives of the National Plan for Well Being and improve
the quality of public investment, because if we have good
studies, we will have well-functioning constructions. We
carry out studies in strategic sectors, and once we complete
these studies we pass them on to ministries so that they can
begin construction.
How is the NIP’s strategy aligned with the 2009-2013 National Development Plan, also known as ‘National Plan for
Well-Being’?
We are working towards a tertiary exporting economy, or
a service economy, and our two main objectives look to
change the energy matrix and the production matrix. We
aim to change the energy matrix through renewable energy projects that will reduce dependence on petrol, and
to change the production matrix in order to reduce dependence on imports. It is in these two main areas that we aim
to meet the development objectives.
What factors are taken into account when carrying out studies for proposed projects?
We have various criteria. The principle criterion is is to meet
the development objectives. The second is to be able to
substitute imports, change the energy matrix, and ensure
that these products increase in value and generate good
employment. That is to say, when we have new technology,
we’re going to ensure that any new employment created
can add value and be of better quality.

Tell us about studies carried out by the NIP in the period
2010-2012.
Between 2010 to 2012 we spent $74 million, which was
divided between six main sectors: water, electricity and renewable energy, science and technology, telecommunications, transport and production. We invested most in transport because we have two important projects: the Quito
metro and the tram system in Cuenca. The next most important projects are those in electricity and renewable energy where there are three types: hydroelectric which use
water to create energy; wind-turbines; and geothermic energy which uses the earth’s heat. Then we have the water
projects which are multi-purpose, that is to say they can be
divided into four different areas: irrigation, providing drinking water, flood control and electricity generation.

Cuéntenos sobre los estudios ejecutados por el
INP en el periodo 2010-2012.
Are there any important investments currently being carried
out that have followed on from pre-investment studies?
We have two water projects on the coast. The BulubuluCañar flood control project and the Daule Vinces Inter-Basin water transfer project are two studies financed by the
Institute, and are now being constructed. The Quito metro
is another of the important projects currently under construction, and we hope that construction of the tram system
in Cuenca will begin this year. Furthermore, we have the
national system of public data which is now up and running.
En el periodo 2010-2012 hemos invertido $74 millones. Esta cifra se divide en seis sectores, principalmente: agua, electricidad y energía renovable, ciencia y tecnología, telecomunicaciones,
transporte y productivo. Donde más hemos invertido es en el sector de transporte porque tenemos
dos proyectos importantes: el Metro de Quito y
el Tranvía de Cuenca. Los proyectos que siguen
en importancia son los que están en electricidad
y energía renovable. Ahí tenemos tres tipos de
proyectos: los hidráulicos que utilizan el agua
para generar energía; los eólicos que utilizan el
viento; y los geotérmicos que utilizan el calor de
la tierra. Luego tenemos los proyectos de agua
que son multifinalitarios, es decir, su fin se divide
en cuatro componentes: riego, agua potable, control de inundaciones y generación eléctrica.
En este momento, ¿se están ejecutando algunas
inversiones importantes derivadas de los estudios de preinversión?
Tenemos dos proyectos de agua en la Costa: el
control de inundaciones Bulubulu-Cañar y el
Transvase Daule Vinces, que son dos estudios
que el instituto ha financiado y están en fase de
construcción. El Metro de Quito es otro de los
proyectos importantes que se está construyendo
y esperamos también que el Tranvía de Cuenca
se empiece a construir en este año. Además tenemos el Sistema Nacional de Datos Públicos que
ya está en funcionamiento.

CSR 2.0 Week
The British Embassy in Quito, the Chamber of Industry & Commerce Ecuador & Great Britain (CICEB) and the S2M Foundation, organised with great success the second edition of the
“CSR 2.0 WEEK”.
The programme included:
1. Academic and Business Conferences on topics of Coorperate Social Responsibility, given by Dr. Wayne Visser,
Senior Associate at the University of Cambridge, and
Economist Felipe Morandé, Ex-Minister for Transport and
Telecommunications in Chile. The first conference was
given in the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, as
part of the Economists Week. The second took place in the
Hilton Colón Hotel, with an attendance of approximately 50
businesspeople from Ecuador's main companies.
2. Open House for Responsibility 2.0: This year the RSC presented 8 projects, detailed below, which corresponded to businesses
and institutions that are members and friends of the Chamber. Their participation in the Open House was completely free and
the objective was to make known and promote these initiatives.

3. Charity Ball 2012: This fundraising gala, attended
by important guests such as the Embassador to Her
Majesty, Patrick Mulee; the Vice-Minister of Hydrocarbons, Ramiro Cazar; and the EU Chargé d’Affaires,
Peter Schwaiger, was the closing event of all the activities held during the Responsibility Week. The main
purpose of the ball was to present to all attendees the
projects exhibited in the II Open House for Responsibility 2.0, detailed above, so that they themselves could
vote for the winning project. The 150 guests chose as
the winning project the Centre for Infant Development
“Niños de María” presented by Foundation Father José
Kentenich, however all projects were recognised and,
above all, received donations.

Iniciamos nuestra labor en un local prestado por el
barrio de la Comuna con el Centro de Desarrollo Infantil “Niños de María”. Hace 10 años hicimos la Escuela San José de la Comuna y nuevamente hacemos
un gran esfuerzo en crear el Colegio San José de la
Comuna. Actualmente, estamos en la creación de la
Unidad de Formación Artesanal Particular San José de
la Comuna con talleres técnicos para que los jóvenes
que sienten que pierden su tiempo en la educación
regular.
Además, en el área de salud, la fundación ha desarrollado mucho y ahora contamos con infraestructura
para la prevención y tratamiento de las enfermedades
de nuestros niños.
Sin embargo, aún tenemos muchas necesidades en
ambas áreas, y para ayudar con la provisión alimentaria para los 300 niños.
Con su ayuda, podemos llegar mucho más lejos.
Testimony from the “Niños de María”
Foundation
We began our work with the Infant Development Centre
“Niños de María” in a property lent to us by the Comuna
neighbourhood. 10 years ago, we opened the San José de
la Comuna School and recently we’re making a great effort
to create San José de la Comuna College. Currently, we’re
working on creating San José de la Comuna Private Craft
Training Centre offering technical workshops for youths that
feel they are wasting their time with regular education.
Furthermore, the Foundation has greatly developed in the
area of health and we now have the infrastructure to prevent and treat the children’s illnesses.
However, there is still a lot of work to be done in both areas,
and to help with the provision of food for the 300 children.
With your help, we can do so much more.

Las Gigantes de Ecuador:
Las Manta Rayas
H
ace 3 años se fundó en Nuestro País el
Proyecto Mantas Ecuador, con un fin
netamente científico y con el objetivo
de investigar, proteger y conservar la gran población de Manta Rayas gigantes (Manta birostris) encontradas a lo largo de la línea costera
del Ecuador Continental y las Islas Galápagos.
Durante este período los investigadores han
identificado a más de mil individuos, lo que representa la población de manta rayas más abundante del Mundo. El equipo del Proyecto Mantas Ecuador está integrado por la mundialmente
reconocida investigadora Dra. Andrea Marshall,
el Biólogo Marino ecuatoriano Michel Guerrero,
la Relacionadora Pública ecuatoriana María Gloria Landázuri y el Biólogo Marino británico Giles
Winstanley.
El trabajo que este equipo realiza es único en
nuestro país y comprende: fotoidentificación,
fotogrametría láser, estacionalidad de los individuos, uso de hábitat, estudios genéticos de
tejidos, estudios sobre comportamiento reproductivo, instalación de dispositivos satelitales,
procesos migratorios, estudios sobre impactos
antropogénicos y manejo de impactos.

marina del Parque Nacional Machalilla e Isla de

T
hree years ago the Manta Project Ecuador was
founded in our country, with a purely scientific
purpose and with the objective of investigating,
protecting and conserving the large population of giant
Manta Rays (Manta birostris) found along the coast of
continental Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. During this period, researchers have identified more than a
thousand individuals, making up the largest population
of manta rays in the world. The Manta Project Ecuador
team is made up of the globally recognised researcher
Dr. Andrea Marshall, the Ecuadorian Marine Biologist
Michel Guerrero, the Ecuadorian Public Relationist
María Gloria Landázuri and the British Marine Biologist
Giles Winstanley.
The work that this team carries out is unique in our
country and includes: photo-identification, laser photogrammetry, seasonal variations of the individuals, use
of habitat, studies on genetic tissue, studies of reproductive behaviour, installation of satellite devices, migratory processes, studies on anthropogenic impacts
and management of these impacts.
Currently these studies are being carried out in the marine area of Machalilla National Park and Silver Island,
with the authorisation and support of the Ecuadorian
Ministry of the Environment. This project has had important support from the British Embassy in Ecuador,

the Nazca Institute of Marine Investigations, various
Non-Governmental Organisations and the private
sector.
The International Convention on Trade in
Endangered Species of Wildlife and
Fauna (CITES) took place in Thailand in March, and Ecuador proposed
before the Secretary of the organisation the inclusion of manta rays in Appendix II. The Ecuadorian delegation
was made up of representatives from
the Ministry of the Environment, Undersecretary of Fisheries Resources,
National Fisheries Institute and Dr.
Andrea Marshall. After various days of
hard work and deliberations, the inclusion was granted thus manta rays are
now protected on a global level.

Salvajes (CITES) y Ecuador propuso ante la Secretaría de esta Organización la inclusión de las
mantas rayas en el apéndice II. La delegación
ecuatoriana estuvo integrada por representantes
del Ministerio del Ambiente, Subsecretaría de Recursos Pesqueros, Instituto Nacional de Pesca y
la Dra. Andrea Marshall. Luego de varios días de
deliberaciones y arduo trabajo se logró la inclusión, por lo cual las manta rayas quedaron protegidas a nivel Mundial.

E
n los últimos años, diferentes medios de
comunicación a nivel mundial han designado a Cuenca como uno de los mejores destinos para jubilados en el mundo. Como resultado
de este fenómeno mediático, hoy cerca de 5000
extranjeros, principalmente de Estados Unidos y
Europa, residen en nuestra ciudad.
Para Cuenca, este proceso resulta bastante particular. Históricamente, desde nuestra provincia
se han generado importantes procesos de emigración, en un principio a Estados Unidos y posteriormente a España e Italia; por lo que nuestra
experiencia ha estado vinculada a ser una ciudad
emisora y no receptora. Así, el intercambio cultural, el desarrollo de nuevos negocios y la apertura
hacia nuevas costumbres y tradiciones son condiciones que están ampliando nuestra cosmovisión.
Si analizamos los motivos por los cuales los extranjeros han decidido vivir permanentemente en
Cuenca, el más recurrente es la calidad de vida
que puede obtener el residente por un costo bastante razonable, condición que incluye centros de
salud de primer nivel, servicios públicos de calidad e instituciones estatales eficientes. Si a esto le
sumamos un clima templado y estable, atractivos
culturales y naturales, un nivel de población intermedio y un entorno de ciudadanos cultos y amistosos, Cuenca se constituye, sin lugar a dudas, en
un oasis en medio de los andes.
Por otra parte, todo proceso migratorio tiene incidencias positivas y negativas en la comunidad
receptora, si bien no se ha desarrollado un estudio pormenorizado sobre estas consecuencias,

n recent years, global media has described Cuenca as
one of the world’s best destinations for retired people.
Today, as a result of this media phenomenon, close to
5000 foreigners, mainly from the United States and Europe, live in our city.
For Cuenca, this process has had an extraordinary effect. In the past our province has contributed to waves of
emigration, principally to the United States and previously
to Spain and Italy; our experience has been as a city of
emigration rather than immigration. Thus, the cultural exchange, the development of our businesses and the opening of the city to new customs and traditions are conditions
that are expanding our cosmovision.
If we analyse the reasons why foreigners have decided to
live permanently in Cuenca, the most common is the quality of life that residents can enjoy for a relatively reasonable cost, including top level health centres, quality public
services and efficient state institutions. If we add to this a
temperate and stable climate, cultural and natural attractions, a medium sized population and friendly and cultured
citizens, Cuenca is, without doubt, an oasis in the middle
of the Andes.
On the other hand, all migratory processes have positive
and negative effects on the receiving community: though
there is no existing specific study about these consequences, the effects are easily observed. One such effect is the fresh injection of money into the city (in many
cases coming from the pension funds of the foreigners)
that has energised various local sectors of the economy
such as the housing market, services, food, etc. However,
this same monetary flow could cause an increase in prices
that would affect the whole city.
With this in mind, it is necessary to open official channels
of local discussion in which representatives from the public and private sectors, and civil society can debate the
impacts of this phenomenon and determine preventative
actions that will guarantee a harmonious and purposeful
coexistence for all citizens who enjoy life in the Athens of
Ecuador.

Uno de ellos es la inyección fresca de dinero que
recibe la ciudad (en muchos casos provenientes de
los fondos de pensiones de los extranjeros) que ha
dinamizado varios sectores de la economía local
como el inmobiliario, de servicios, alimentación,
etc. Sin embargo, este mismo flujo de divisas podría desencadenar un incremento de precios que
afecten a toda la ciudad en su conjunto.
Con estos antecedentes, urge que se abran canales oficiales de discusión local en los cuales actores públicos, privados y de la sociedad civil puedan debatir sobre los impactos de este fenómeno
y determinar acciones preventivas que garanticen
una convivencia armónica y propositiva entre todos los ciudadanos que disfrutamos de vivir en la
Atenas del Ecuador.

Agripac: Sigue Creciendo
E
n la zona sierra Agripac inauguró su Sucursal
Mayor con una imponente instalación construida en un terreno de 19000 mts2, situada
en la vía Sangolqui – Amaguaña, cantón Rumiñahui
de la Provincia del Pichincha.
La visión de servicio de la empresa lleva a realizar
esta inversión que cuenta con un Punto de Venta, Oficinas Administrativas y el Centro Logístico que consta de 5 bodegas de 1000 mts2 cada una, incluye también patios de operación de bodegas, con el objeto
de dar una mejor atención y agilidad en el servicio de
nuestros clientes de Sierra y Oriente en la distribución de los productos de mayor demanda en la zona.
Dentro de las funcionalidades con que cuenta esta
sucursal es que están construidas con techos de
doce metros de alto, lo que permite colocar estanterías o racks de 6 niveles. Todas las instalaciones
fueron construidas con el concepto de usar la luz natural por lo que consta de paredes internas de vidrio
y tragaluces en los techos. Esta construcción tomó
precauciones funcionales para el almacenamiento de
los productos usando bodegas totalmente independientes.
La construcción de la Sucursal Mayor de Agripac en
Amaguaña fue coordinada por el Ing. Gustavo Wray
– Gerente General de la empresa – en conjunto con
David Cárdenas – Gerente Administrativo – y el Arq.
Gustavo Blanco.
La construcción de este moderno centro de servicios le llevó a la empresa un año de trabajo con una
inversión importante. Con estas nuevas instalaciones
se resolverá una necesidad apremiante en la distribución de sus productos.
Agripac: Keeps Growing

gripac has opened its Main Branch in the Highland region; an impressive installation built on
a 19000m2 plot of land and located on the Sangolqui-Amaguaña road in the Rumiñahui region, Pinchincha province.
The company´s vision for service provision led to this investment which includes a sales outlet, administrative offices and a logistics centre consisting of 5 warehouses,
each 1000m2, and a warehouse operations floor. The objective is to provide a faster and more attentive service to
our clients in the Highlands and the West in the distribution
of the most popular products in the area.
Amongst the features of the branch are 12m ceilings
which enable us to install 6-shelf storage racks. All installations were constructed with the concept of using natural
light through internal glass walls and skylights in the roof.
Practical precautions were taken with the construction to
ensure products were stored in completely independent
warehouses.
The construction of Agripac’s Main Branch in Amaguaña
was coordinated by Engineer Gustavo Wray – General
Manager of the firm – along with David Cárdenas – Administrations Manager – and the architect Gustavo Blanco.
It took one year and a significant investment to complete
the construction of this modern services center. These
new installations will resolve an urgent need in the distribution of the company’s products.

por la Embajada Británica

La Embajada de Quito organizó un Festival de Rugby el
9 de marzo, para cerrar con broche de oro una semana de
eventos alrededor de este deporte británico. El objetivo fue
promover el rugby en el Ecuador y animar a la gente a practicarlo, apoyados en la introducción del rugby como deporte
olímpico en Brasil 2016. Contamos con la visita del jugador
profesional, Camilo Parilli, de los Leicester Tigers, unos de
los mejores equipos de rugby de Inglaterra. Camilo visitó
escuelas y colegios para dar talleres de rugby y también
para donar balones de rugby no disponibles en tiendas nacionales. El festival fue un gran éxito, con alrededor de 400
espectadores y jugadores. Hubo torneos de “touch” rugby
con equipos mixtos para niños y adultos y también un
partido entre el equipo nacional de la Federación Ecuatoriana de Rugby y Los Nomadas, un club de rugby de Quito.

Rugby Festival organised by the British
Embassy
The Embassy in Quito organized a Rugby Festival on March 9th to
bring to a close the week of events based around this British sport.
The aim was to promote rugby in Ecuador and encourage people
to play, supported by the introduction of rugby as an Olympic
sport in Brazil 2016. We were visited by profession player Camilo
Parilli from the Leicester Tigers, one of England’s best teams. Camilo visited schools and colleges giving rugby workshops and donating rugby balls unavailable in national stores. The festival was a
great success with approximately 400 spectators and players. There
were “touch” rugby tournaments with mixed adult and children
teams, and also a match between the the Ecuadorian Federation of
Rugby’s national team and the Nomads, a rugby club from Quito.

estudiantes a estudiar en la universidad. James hizo presentaciones en la Universidad San Francisco de Quito,
PUCE, y FLACSO, y, el 4 de marzo dictó una charla
pública en el Hotel Sheraton ante la abrumadora asistencia de más de 400 personas. ¡Un éxito!

visited Quito for 2 days in its desire to recruit more Ecuadorian students. Student Recruitment Official, James Brown,
spent the March 4th and 5th in the city, aiming to strengthen
relations between LSE and Ecuadorian universities, colleges
and government institutions, such as SENESCYT, and also
to encourage students to study in the university. James held
