Se organizan Sesiones de Aprendizaje sobre Microseguros: América
Latina y el Caribe

Tras un extenso estudio sobre el panorama de los microseguros en América Latina y el Caribe, contratado por el Fondo
Multilateral de Inversiones (FOMIN) al MicroInsurance Centre, los actores claves del sector se juntarán en Guadalajara,
México el próximo 29 de septiembre en el evento “Sesiones de Aprendizaje sobre Microseguros: América Latina y el
Caribe”, durante el cual se discutirán las brechas y oportunidades identificadas en el estudio.
En el Panorama, el Microinsurance Centre ha identificado un total de 45,5 millones de personas y propiedades aseguradas
en la región. También identificó cuatro modelos de mercados de microseguros en los países de América Latina y el Caribe,
con necesidades que van desde conocimiento y protección al consumidor a un papel más fuerte de las asociaciones de
aseguradores, mayor uso de la tecnología y un aumento en la oferta de los microseguros agrícola y catastróficos. Las
sesiones están organizadas alrededor de estas oportunidades.
El estudio contó además con el apoyo de la Fundación Citi y la Fundación Munich Re. Los resultados generales de este
estudio panorámico se usarán como línea de base y punto de referencia para el mejoramiento de la estrategia de
microseguros del FOMIN. A largo plazo, se busca repetir el estudio para identificar cambios y nuevas necesidades en el
mercado de microseguros en la región.
Las Sesiones de Aprendizaje sobre Microseguros: América Latina y el Caribe se llevarán a cabo en Guadalajara, México y
se encuentran organizadas por el FOMIN, la Fundación Munich Re, la Federación Interamericana de Empresas de Seguros
(FIDES), el Fondo para la Innovación en los Microseguros de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo y el Microinsurance
Network. Esperamos alrededor de 150 participantes y se contará con panelistas tanto de América Latina como de otras
regiones.

Learning sessions on microinsurance in Latin America and the
Caribbean

After the extensive landscape of microinsurance in Latin America and the Caribbean, a study carried out by the
MicroInsurance Centre with the support of the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), key industry stakeholders will gather in
Guadalajara, Mexico on September 29th for the "Microinsurance Learning Sessions: Latin America and the Caribbean",
during which they will discuss the gaps and opportunities identified in the study.
The Landscape finds a total of 45.5 million insured persons and property in the region. It also identifies four models of
microinsurance markets in the countries in the region, with needs ranging from knowledge and consumer protection to a
stronger role for insurer associations, greater use of technology and an increased penetration of agricultural and
catastrophic microinsurance. The sessions are organized around these opportunities.
The study was undertaken with the support of Citi Foundation and the Munich Re Foundation. The results will be used as
baseline and benchmark for improving the MIF’s microinsurance strategy. In the long run, the study’s sponsors look to
repeat the panoramic study in order to identify changes and emerging needs in the region’s microinsurance market.
The Microinsurance Learning Sessions: Latin America and the Caribbean in Guadalajara, Mexico are organized by the MIF,
the Munich Re Foundation, the Inter-American Federation of Insurance Companies (FIDES), the Microinsurance Innovation
Facility of the International Labour Organization and the Microinsurance Network. Around 150 participants are expected, as
well as panelists from around Latin America as well as outside the region.
