t is a tremendous honor to ratify and support the candidacy of our
country, Mexico, as host of the World Amateur Team Championships, Espirito Santo
Trophy (Women) and Eisenhower Trophy (Men), to take place in 2016. I express the
willingness of the Mexican Government, and confirm its total and absolute support to the
Government of the State of Quintana Roo, so that together, we put on a World Amateur
Team Championship that provides a renovated enthusiasm for the sport of golf.
Mexico has an important and long history of organizing international sporting events,
among them, the 1968 Summer Olympics, Pan American Games, including the
most recent 16th edition which took place in October 2011, as well as endless world
championships in different sports such as soccer (1970 and 1986). The experience
gained over the years, added to the hospitality and warmth of the Mexican people, will
be key to the ultimate success of the World Amateur Team Championships if held here.
These sporting events represent a magnificent opportunity for our country to open its arms
to the youth of the world and strengthen our ties of friendship and brotherhood with all
countries. It would be a huge honor for Quintana Roo to host such a significant competition.
We hope to continue working with the International Golf Federation, the Mexican
Golf Federation and the state of Quintana Roo, in order to carry out an unprecedented
sporting event that forms part of the ideals that sports give to humanity.
Mexico is a country that takes on challenges and fulfills its promises. We have the
infrastructure, the experience, the talent and the willingness to make the World Amateur
Team Championships an unforgettable sports celebration.

its initiatives. We were honored to host both Eisenhower and Espirito Santo trophies in

HISTORY
1926: THE “MEXICO GOLF
ASSOCIATION” WAS ESTABLISHED
The managers’ council of the Mexico Country Club
thought of the need to create a golf organization to
represent the clubs already established throughout the
country; for such reason in 1926 several representatives
from every club were invited by this council to gather in
order to form the “Mexico Golf Association”.
This information was extracted from the El Universal newspaper dated
5 April 1926 and it is the only physical evidence of the institution of the
Mexico Golf Association. No other document has been found to date.
Clubs involved in the formation
of the Mexico Golf Association:
Chapultepec Heights, Guadalajara, Pachuca, Tampico,
Monterey and Mexico Country Clubs.
Mexico Golf Association immediately began conducting
Championships such as the First Annual Golf
Tournament along with Men and Women National
Amateur Championships. This activity gave the guidelines
to initiate the translation to Spanish of the Rules of Golf.
In the 1930s with the arrival of President Lazaro
Cardenas the construction of new golf courses decreased
along with a significant reduction in foreign colonies
who were by far the most dedicated promoters of the
sport. Later, the first Mexico Open Championship
was conducted in 1944. Two years after, on August
29th 1946, the Mexico Golf Association was legally
established as a civil association and was officially
named Mexican Golf Association.
On August 8th 1975, in the City of Mazatlan, affiliated
clubs met and agreed to sign new bylaws on the best
interest of the Organization. This bylaws gave birth on
December 1976 the what we now know as the Mexican
Golf Federation.
Nowadays the Mexican Golf Federation has a
membership of 123 clubs with more than 20,000
registered handicaps and growing.

Cancún and the Riviera Maya, a microcosm in blue: Mayan skies, the
Caribbean Sea and the tropical heat. The pristine sands are like velvet to the
touch. The shoreline is peppered with headlands and inlets and beautiful
bays. There are also long stretches of white beach whose march along the
coast is broken by the occasional rocky wave platform and some low cliffs
in the Tulum area. The beaches are protected by a chain of coral reefs.
Marine life is abundant, around 500 species of fish have been identified in
the area and a variety of sea and water birds congregate in the dunes and

wetlands along the coast. The great blue, boat-billed and green heron, ibis
and spoonbill are among the waders found in the mangroves while the coast
is patrolled ceaselessly by pelicans, frigate birds, gulls and terns. In the north
of the state, the coastal lagoons of Yalahau attract flocks of flamingos.

ECO parks
Quintana Roo’s eco parks make up one of the state’s most sought
after tourist attractions. Organized around a concept of multi-activity
sites, featuring water fun within an ecological and cultural backdrop,

The Mayan culture has inhabited this region for more than two
thousand years. The aura of mystery and majesty still lingers around
the Mayan archaeological sites, to mention but a few: Tulum, an
archaeological jewel called Zamá (sunrise) by the ancient Maya its main
building, El Castillo, overlooks the Caribbean Sea and has become the
most recognized symbol of the Mexican Caribbean. Cobá, impressive
for its vastness, the number of buildings immersed in the jungle
(among them the highest pyramid in the Yucatán Peninsula) and its
long Mayan roads. Chichén Itzá, “the city of the water sorcerers” was
the Yucatán Peninsula’s most powerful city, with innovative ideas in
architecture, astronomy and politics. All these sites are all within easy
reach of Cancún by bus, or car or on one of the many tours.
