LISTEN AND FOLLOW
“This is my beloved Son.
Listen to him.” And listen
they did. From that moment on, Peter, James,
and John were ardent followers, forsaking everything to follow in their Master’s footsteps. Like the
psalmist crying, “O Lord, I
am your servant,” the
three disciples committed
themselves to lives of incredible hardship and indescribable joy. After that day on the mountain, they never
again wavered in their chosen vocation.
Though our tests may not be as severe as Abraham’s and
our peak experiences not as dramatic as the Transfiguration,
we all face the daily challenges of walking “before the Lord in
the land of the living.” As we follow our varied calls to love
and serve, let’s be comforted by Paul’s reminder to the Romans: “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

sus ardientes seguidores, desechándolo todo para seguir las
huellas del Maestro. Tal como
proclama el salmista, “Señor,
he aquí tu servidor”, los tres
discípulos se comprometieron a
vidas de increíbles penurias e
indescriptible gozo. Después de
ese día en la montaña, nunca
más dudaron de la vocación escogida.
Aunque nuestras pruebas no sean tan severas como la de
Abraham, ni nuestros momentos sublimes tan dramáticos como
la Transfiguración, todos confrontamos los retos cotidianos de
caminar “en presencia del Señor en el país de la vida”. Mientras
seguimos nuestros diversos llamados a amar y servir, seamos
confortados por lo que Pablo les recuerda a los romanos: “Si Dios
está a nuestro favor, ¿quién estará en contra nuestra?”

month of April. Any lessons missed are to be completed at home.
Parents of students preparing for a sacrament are encouraged to attend the Adult Faith Formation Classes held each

First Communion and must be kept distinct by a clear and unhurried separation.” (NCD #126)

Confirmation I – The group meets on Wednesdays from
6:30 to 8:00 PM in Dougherty Hall. Meetings for March are on
the 4th, 11th and 25th. Students attending these sessions will
be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Fall of 2015.

Our Carmelite Order has its origins on Mt. Carmel in the
Holy Land. Fr. Edgar E. López, O.Carm. will be the Chaplain on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land this 13–24 October
2015. In addition to visiting the places of Lord Jesus recorded in the Scriptures, the pilgrimage will include a
stopover in England at Aylesford Priory and an opportunity
to visit the excavations of the first priory of the Carmelites

PCIC is celebrating 25 years of service in Tucson. Our parish has been a partner with PCIC
for most of these years beginning when
Joanne Welter was our parish’s Social Outreach Coordinator. She continued her involvement with PCIC while she served as the Director of Human Life and Dignity for the diocese. At this celebration, she will be one of the PCIC leaders to be honored. The
celebration will be held on Sunday, 8 March from 2 to 4 PM at
St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church. Tickets are $20 per

Coming Together to Get Ahead
Build a Better Life for Yourself
and a Better Community
The Tucson Council of St Vincent de Paul, in collaboration with Amphitheater school district, is offering a group
learning experience to our community through a program
called Getting Ahead in a Just Getting by World. In this program, a group of up to 12 people will meet for 2–3 hours for
16 consecutive times.
The program presents an environment and a method for
members of the group to work together, resulting in each of
them understanding their personal situation, their personal
strengths, and the resources available in the community that
they can use. Based on this work, each of the participants will
then develop a plan to develop resources and move ahead.
To facilitate participation in the program, a meal, babysitting, and a gift card will be provided at each meeting.

second “Skate Night” at Skate Country on 13 February. Everyone had a great time and we were able to raise just over
$300 to benefit St. Cyril Parish. Special thanks to Michelle
Torok and Angie Martin for coordinating this event.

Un Nuevo Sobre de Donación
With the March-April mailing of donation envelopes, we begin to use our new format which
facilitates donations not only by cash or check,
but also by credit/debit card and for authorizing Electronic Fund
Transfers. We hope that this will provide you with the method
you most prefer for supporting your parish.
In recent weeks, we had 3 major maintenance projects. AN
old air conditioning/heating unit in the priory (our priest’s
home) had to be replaced along with the air
handlers ($4,900). The walkway between
the church and the Dougherty Activity Building has needed work as it does not allowing
rain water to run off. “Lake Cyril” forms
every time it rains and blocks an access route to parish
buildings. Adjustments have been made so that this will not
keep occurring. In preparing to change the church’s heater/
air conditioning system over to A/C, it was determined that
the oil in one of the two compressors needed to be changed
($1,011). Fortunately, we have sufficient funds in our Maintenance Fund to cover these costs. However, we will need to
replenish this to be able to afford inevitable maintenance
needs in the future. We have not taken a collection for our
Maintenance Fund for some time now because we have suspended this for a more immediate need – deficit reduction.

Continuando al día con los Mantenimientos Mayores
En las últimas semanas, teníamos 3 grandes proyectos de mantenimiento. Una vieja unidad de aire acondicionado/calefacción en el priorato (la casa de nuestros sacerdotes) tuvo que ser
sustituido junto con el sistema de aire ($4,900). La
banqueta entre la iglesia y el Centro de Actividades
Dougherty ha necesitado trabajo, ya que no permite
que el agua de lluvia se absorva. “El lago Cyril” se
forma cada vez que llueve y bloquea una vía de acceso a los edificios
parroquiales. Se han hecho ajustes a fin de que esto no siga ocurriendo.
En la preparación para cambiar el sistema de aire acondicionado/
calefacción de la iglesia a A/C, se determinó que el aceite en uno de los
dos compresores necesitaba cambiarse ($1,011 dólares). Afortunadamente, tenemos fondos suficientes en nuestro Fondo de Mantenimiento
