Third Sunday of Easter
April 10, 2016
From the Desk of the Pastor:
"Look after My sheep" (John 21:16).
Dear brothers and sisters, it is with joy and gratitude that I share with you this reflection on today’s
Gospel lesson.
A college speech professor detested the way speakers tend to repeat points in order to emphasize
them. On one occasion, he said to his class,
"Ladies and gentlemen, never repeat for emphasis."
Then he pounded the lectern and said, "Let me say
that again: Never repeat for emphasis."
In today's Gospel Lesson, it seems clear that,
among other things, Jesus is repeating for emphasis. Not once, not twice, but three times He asks
the Apostle Peter, "Do you love Me? ... Do you
love Me? ... Do you love Me?" To which Peter immediately responds, "Yes Lord, you know I love
You" ... "Yes Lord, you know I love You" ... "Lord,
you know everything; You know I love You."
Notice, however, that the conversation doesn't end
on that note. Each time Peter professes his love for
the Lord, Jesus responds with a call to action: "Feed
My lambs!" ... "Look after My sheep!" ... "Feed My
sheep!" And, in so doing, Jesus ties together, for
Peter and for us, our love of God in and through
Jesus Christ and our love for one another. For Peter and for us, Jesus ties together the way of compassion as the way of being with God. "Do you
love Me? Then feed My sheep!"
Do you love your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? ...
Do you love Him? ... Do you really love Him?
Then feed His lambs! ... Look after His sheep ...
Feed His sheep!
In today's Gospel Episode, Peter and some of the
disciples are out in a boat, fishing. The Risen
Christ is standing on the shore, watching them.
Seeing Him, the Apostle John says to Peter, "It is
the Lord!" And, at these words "It is the Lord,"
Peter became a new man. There was no holding
him now. He must get to Jesus' side at once! And
so he jumped into the water and outraced the boat
to shore. Peter's conversion was complete.
Look! It is the Lord! Make your conversion complete! Jump in! The water's fine! Go to Him and
follow Him! Love one another as He has loved
you! Feed His sheep!

“Apacienta mis corderos” (Juan 21:16).
Queridos hermanos y hermanas, con gran alegría y
gratitud les saludo y comparto esta reflexión del
Evangelio de hoy con ustedes.
Un maestro de Oratoria de una universidad expresaba abiertamente su coraje cuando alguno de sus
alumnos repetía alguna palabra durante sus discursos. Algunos alumnos tienden a repetir algunas
palabras coma manera de enfatizar algún punto que
ellos consideran importante. Curiosamente, en una
de sus clases, el maestro enojado comete el mismo
error. Le dice a su clase, “Ya les he expresado que
detesto que tengan que repetir para enfatizar. Escuchen bien, no repitan para enfatizar, no repitan
para enfatizar, ¿de acuerdo?
En el Evangelio de hoy, parece claro, entre otras
cosas, que Jesús repite para enfatizar su punto. No
una vez, ni dos, pero tres veces le pregunta a Pedro,
“¿Me amas? … “¿Me amas? … “¿Me amas? A lo
cual inmediatamente a cada una de las tres preguntas, “Si Señor, tu sabes que te quiero.”
Si se fijan, la conversación no termina con esas respuestas. Cada vez que Pedro profesa su amor al
Señor, Jesús le añade una petición: “Apacienta mis
corderos!” … “Pastorea mis ovejas!” …” Apacienta mis ovejas!”
Al inicio de este pasaje evangélico, Pedro y algunos de los discípulos estaban pescando en una barca. Cristo resucitado está en la orilla del lago, observándolos. ¡Entonces el apóstol Juan le dice a
Pedro, “Es el Señor!” Tan pronto como Pedro oyó
decir que era el Señor, se lanzó al agua para ir en
su encuentro. En ese momento Pedro se convierte
en una “nueva persona.” A partir de ese momento,
ya no hay nada que pueda detener a Pedro. Él tiene
que llegar al lado de Jesús. En esta acción se revela que la conversión de Pedro se completa.
Hermanos y hermanas, ¡Es el Señor!” Completemos nuestra conversión a Él. ¡Tirémonos al agua!
¡Vayamos a su encuentro del Señor Resucitado!
¡Amémonos los unos a los otros como Él nos ha
amado! ¡Apacentemos sus ovejas!
Que la Paz y gozo del Señor resucitado este con
ustedes,

TÌNH YÊU CHÂN THÀNH
Ông Phê-rô buồn vì Chúa hỏi tới ba lần:
“Anh có yêu mến Thầy không?” Ông đáp:
Thưa Thầy, Thầy biết rõ mọi sự; Thầy biết
con yêu mến Thầy.” Đức Giê-su bảo: Hãy
chăm sóc chiên của Thầy.” (Ga 21,17)
Suy niệm: Ai mà không buồn khi bị hỏi đi hỏi
lại cùng một câu hỏi như vậy? Hoặc vì người
nghe lơ đãng; hoặc người nghe không tin hay
không chấp nhận câu trả lời. Nhưng ở đây,
Chúa Giê-su không hề muốn Phê-rô phải xấu
hổ. Ngài nghe rất rõ câu trả lời chân thành của
ông, nhưng muốn ông xác tín và quyết tâm lại
lòng trung thành và sự phục vụ của ông. Thực
vậy, tình yêu dành cho Chúa phải được diễn tả
sống động trong việc vâng nghe và chăm sóc
đoàn chiên theo gương Chúa. Nếu Phê-rô yêu
Chúa, thì ông hãy vác thánh giá như Chúa.
Nếu Phê-rô yêu Chúa, ông hãy chăm sóc đoàn
chiên, cách riêng những con chiên yêu đuối,
thương tích, lạc đàn. Nếu Phê-rô yêu Chúa,
ông hãy hy sinh mạng sống vì đoàn chiên. Tình
yêu phải được bày tỏ trong khiêm tốn, trong
hiến tế và trong phục vụ.
Mời Bạn: Sau mỗi lần bạn sa ngã, Chúa đã
cho bạn quá nhiều cơ hội mới để lặp lại tình
yêu và quyết tâm của bạn đối với Chúa. Bạn
đừng buồn vì phải lặp lại quyết tâm theo Chúa,
nhưng phải buồn vì bạn vẫn chưa thực hiện
điều bạn quyết tâm.
