SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION – This beautiful
feast in which we commemorate Our Blessed Lady’s Assumption into heaven falls is celebrated on August 15th. This year it
falls on a Monday. Consequently, it is not a holy day of obligation this year. So we will celebrate it at the regular Masses
tomorrow.
SOLEMNIDAD DE LA ASUNCIÓN - Esta hermosa fiesta en
la que se conmemora la Asunción de la Santísima Virgen a los
cielos se celebra el 15 de agosto, este año cae en lunes. Como no
es un día de obligación la celebraremos en las Misas regulares
mañana.
GOOD BY FR. DEO AND WELCOME FR. MUHIGIRWA! – Today we say good bye to Father Deogratias
Bukenya who returns to his native Uganda after being with us
for the last 6 weeks. We wish him well and thank him for his
kind assistance this summer.
This week we welcome Father Charles Muhigirwa who is also
from the Archdiocese of Kampala, Uganda, and will be with us
for the next six weeks helping out. Welcome Father!
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN – Please
remember that if you have a child who has not received First
Communion or Confirmation, registration is taking place right
now in the R.E. office of our parish.
The age for reception of First Holy Communion is 7 years old.
Since it is a two-year program, this means that when you’re
child enters the first grade at the age of 6 he should be registered for First Holy Communion. In this way, at the age of 7
the child will receive First Communion. I have noticed in the
last couple of years that many of our children receiving First
Communion are much older, sometimes even as old as 13 or
14. This is a very sad situation because this means that these
children have been deprived of the Blessed Sacrament for
many years. It is a terrible abuse. Please ensure that your children start receiving formal religious instruction at the age of 6
so they are not deprived of the Sacrament of the Most Holy
Eucharist.

EDUCACIÓN RELIGIOSA PARA NIÑOS - Por favor recuerde que si usted tiene un niño que no ha echo la Primera Comunión o la Confirmación, las registraciones se está llevando a
cabo en estos momentos en la oficina de Educación Religiosa .
La edad apropiada para la Primera Comunión es de 7 años. Dado que es un programa de dos años, esto significa que cuando el
niño ingresa al primer grado a la edad de 6 debe ser registrado
para la Primera Comunión. De esta manera, a la edad de 7, el
niño va a recibir la Primera Comunión. Me he dado cuenta en el
último par de años que muchos de nuestros niños que reciben la
Primera Comunión son mucho más grandes, a veces incluso tan

Seminary formation involves much more than academic study.
Prior to ordination, a candidate for priesthood goes through a
lengthy evaluation period, including an internship during which
he lives in a rectory and works with priests, staff and parishioners. During this time, the candidate is evaluated as to his suitability to be a priest. No one is ordained unless the staff of St.
John’s Seminary, including the lay faculty and formation advisers, concludes that the candidate has attained an emotional,
psychological and sexual maturity appropriate for his age and
for the celibate life of a priest. For more information, please

it is to read 100 pages of
a popular or romance novel?
Isn't it strange how everyone
wants front-row-tickets
to concerts or
games, but they do whatever
is possible to sit at the last
row in Church?
Isn't it strange how we need to
know about an event for church 2-3
weeks before the day so we can
include it in our agenda, but we can
adjust it for other events at
the last minute?
Isn't it strange how difficult it
is to learn a fact about God to share it
with others, but how easy
it is to learn, understand,
extend and repeat gossip?
Isn't it strange how we
believe everything
that magazines and newspapers
say, but we question the words in the
Bible?
Isn't it strange how everyone
wants a place in
heaven, but they don't want
to believe, do, or say anything
to get there?
