Or visit our parish website: http://stjoseph-elkgrove.net/ Saint Joseph Parish Pastor's Note - First Sunday of Advent “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:33) Today is the First Sunday of Advent. We begin once again the liturgical cycle of celebrating the life of Christ, that we continue to deepen our understanding, our history of salvation, conforming our lives to Christ, and proclaiming the good news to others. In The gospel today Jesus reminds us to be watchful and alert for we do not know when the day of The Lord will be coming. Advent season is a time of great anticipation. Will we be ready to receive The Lord and share in the joy of his promise? We live in a time when we are preoccupied with a variety of things that we see matters. We are preoccupied with school, work, sports, material things, or whatever. Who is to say that these are not important? Indeed they may be, but we must ask the question, will this be enough in the end. What will be missing in our lives when The Lord finally comes? Thus we can say, when we enter the season of Advent, that we are presented with the opportunity for a "redo". We are given another chance to celebrate more fruitfully and in a deeper way the life of Christ, throughout the liturgical year, so that we can be more effective in witnessing and sharing it with others, our family and friends, the good news of the Lord's coming. Let the Spirit prepare and open our hearts to celebrate the joy of the Lord's coming. God bless!!
