He could be impetuous, impatient, fearful and even unfaithful. After Peter had boasted of his fidelity to the Lord, he adamantly denied him three times. It seemed that Peter had burned his bridges, but Jesus lovingly rebuilt them and restored Peter to service. Peter would become the chief steward of the Gospel in the early church. Peter had failed Jesus, but with Jesus, failure is not the end. Reflect this week on the times you have failed Jesus. Were you open to Jesus’ forgiveness? Did it make you a better steward of the Gospel? The trip will include visits to Mexico City, the Basilica of Guadalupe, Puebla and other sites of interest. For more information or for the registration form, please visit the welcome center or print the form and brochure at www.saintwilliams.org SAVE THE DATE—Jesus is Lord Course—September 18 Keynote Speaker: Fr. Uche Andeh Jesus is Lord is the First step to developing the faith of an adult. Learn how to apply your faith to real life and all the complexities of adult experience. Thursday, September 18 7 p.m.—9 p.m. In the parish hall Please register for childcare by emailing [email protected] This is not just another course. It is an encounter with Christ. We must come to know him more deeply and allow him to change our hearts—then we can take that message to the world. Our faith is about relationship with the Father, through Jesus in the Holy Spirit. If we don’t understand this, then our Catholic faith will always remain just a set of rules, or an interesting set of teachings, but it will not tie together. No matter where you are on your spiritual walk with Christ, the Adult Faith Formation program is for you. Where are the payments that I have been making online going at this time? We have many generous parishioners who are continuing to have payments withdrawn from their account through our online giving system. With the kickoff of our Maintenance to Mission capital campaign, everything is consolidated into one bucket, so to speak. All gifts directed to past debt, past campaigns, current debt, and new construction will address our capital effort at this time. It is all the same account. For more information about the capital campaign or to view the campaign videos and renderings, please visit www.saintwilliams.org. For more information, please contact Noe Rocha at [email protected] or visit 512-600-8166. The word “marriage” is not simply a label that can be attached to different types of relationships. Instead, “marriage” reflects a deep reality – the reality of the unique, fruitful, lifelong union that is only possible between a man and a woman. Just as oxygen and hydrogen are essential to water, sexual difference is essential to marriage. The attempt to “redefine” marriage to include two persons of the same sex denies the reality of what marriage is. It is as impossible as trying to “redefine” water to include oxygen and nitrogen. http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/marriage-and-family/marriage/ FREQUENT NUMBERS/ NUMEROS FREQUENTES PASTORAL CARE Liturgy Divorce & Beyond Bereavement Ministry Hospital visit (English) Hospital visit (Español) Homebound (English) Homebound (Spanish) Nursing Home Ministry Debbie George Debbie George Debbie George Mary DiBonito Martha Estrada Mary Cavett Martha Estrada Azucena Overman 600-8158 600-8158 600-8158 934-3235 417-8722 388-0016 417-8722 627-6423 SPIRITUAL LIFE Eucharist Adoration Pilgrim Statue Our Lady of Grace Estatua Peregrina Praise & Worship Prayer Line Parish Bible Study Legion of Mary Karina Hernandez Debbie Davis Rosie Russi Les & Gabriele Miller Joan A. SACRED HEART COMMUNITY CLINIC HOURS: Walk-ins, Tues. & Thurs., 5 p.m.—8 p.m.; Registrations, Mon. & Fri., 9 a.m.—Noon SAINTS PETER AND PAUL, APOSTLES CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING During this liturgical cycle, we are privileged to have the Solemnity of the great founding saints of our Church fall on a Sunday. What can we learn as we meditate on these two heroes from our history? One lesson is that they were open to God and trusted God completely – as they faced their ministry and even imprisonment and death. Their deep relationship with Christ gave them courage and strength to answer God’s call. What can we do to deepen our relationship with Christ this week? How can we be attentive to God’s call to service and love?
