“TOGETHER BUILDING THE KINGDOM OF GOD”

We are no more than servants; we have only done our duty
Today, Christ’s message is once more about service. The Gospel is always insisting upon the spirit of service.
And it helps to see how the Verb of God Incarnate —Yahweh’s, Isaiah’s servant— «took upon him the form of a
servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became
obedient» (Phil 2:2-7). Christ also said: «But I am in the midst of you as one who serves» (Lk 22:27), as «the Son of
Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many» (Mt 20:28). Jesus’ example
was clearly apparent when He washed his disciples’ feet, thus accomplishing a servant’s task. With that gesture He
wanted to make quite evident that his followers were to serve, help and love each other, as brothers and servers to
all, as He proposes in the parable of the Good Samaritan.
We have to live all our Christian life with that sense of service and without believing we are doing anything
extraordinary. All our family, professional and social life —in the political, economical world, etc.— has to be imbibed
by this spirit. «To serve, to serve», asserted St. Josemaría Escrivá; he wanted us to understand that “to be useful” we
have to live a life of generous service without seeking honors, human glory or applause.
In the old days they said that phrase “nolentes quaerimus” —«amongst our rulers let us look for those who
do not have ambition for power; those who do not want to show off»— when it was time to nominate someone for
the Hierarchy. This is the actual purpose of those good pastors that are ready to serve the Church, as the Church
wants to be served: to assume the condition of servants as Christ did. Let us remember the well-known words by St.
Augustine stating how the ecclesial function has to be exerted: «Non tam praeesse quam prodesse»; not so much to
command but to serve, being useful.

SACRED HEART. The members of the Sacred Heart Society will have their
monthly Holy Hour this Sunday, October 6th at 3:00 p.m.
MONTH OF THE ROSARY. October is the month of the Rosary. The Rosary
will be prayed 20 minutes before each mass during October. We encourage
everyone to pray the Rosary with your family.
YEAR OF FAITH. The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Michael
Chapel continues next Tuesday, October 8th from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
THE MONTHLY prayer vigil against abortion will take place on Tuesday,
Ocober 8th at Beeston Hill from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Dr. Johnston´s
Office, where the fifteen decades of the Rosary together with the Prayer to St.
Michael, the Archangel will be prayed. All are invited.
THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES are every Saturday from 9:00
a.m. unitl 11:00 a.m. If you have not registered your child, you still have time
to do so on Saturdays. Please bring your child’s baptism certificate when you
come. Please bring your children on time.
There will be a meeting for parents and sponsors of Confirmation candidates
next Saturday, October 12th at 10:30 a.m. in the Hospitality Lounge. Please
come and be on time. Thank you.
R.C.I.A. There will be R.C.I.A. classes for adults from 16 years and up who
are not baptized, those who like to enter the Catholic Church, or need to receive
the Sacraments of Communion and or Confirmation. Classes start on Sunday,
October 20th 2013, at 11:30 a.m. on the porch.
OUR SECOND COLLECTION next weekend, October 12-13 will be for
the the electricity and the maintenance of the church. Thank you.
BISHOP’S APPEAL. Thank you for your response to the Bishop’s Appeal.

Feast day Our Lady of Victory
In thanks for the victory of the Battle of Muret in 1213, Simon de
Montfort, 5th Earl of Leicester built the first shrine dedicated to
Our Lady of Victory.
In 1571, Pope Pius V instituted “Our Lady of Victory” as an annual
feast to commemorate the victory in the Battle of Lepanto. The victory
was attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary, as a rosary procession had
been offered on that day in St. Peter’s Square in Rome for the success
of the mission of the Holy League to hold back Muslim forces from
overrunning Western Europe.
Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary In 1573, Pope Gregory XIII changed the title
of the “Feast of Our Lady of Victory” to “Feast of the Holy Rosary”. This feast
was extended by Pope Clement XI to the whole of the Latin Rite, inserting it
into the Roman Catholic calendar of saints in 1716, and assigning it to the first
Sunday in October. Pope Pius X changed the date to October 7 in 1913, as part

Throughout that entire meditation I
saw the Lord Jesus on the altar, in a white
garment, His hand holding the notebook
in which I write these things. Throughout
the entire meditation Jesus kept turning the
pages of the notebook and remained silent;
however, my heart could not bear the fire that
was enkindled in my soul. Despite the great
effort of my will to take control of myself
and not let others see what was going on in

“JUNTOS CONSTRUYENDO EL REINO DE DIOS”
Somos siervos inútiles; hemos hecho lo que debíamos hacer
Hoy, Cristo nos habla nuevamente de servicio. El Evangelio insiste siempre en el espíritu de servicio. Nos
ayuda a ello la contemplación del Verbo de Dios encarnado —el siervo de Yavé, de Isaías— que «se anonadó y
tomó la condición de esclavo» (Flp 2,2-7). Cristo afirma también: «Yo estoy entre vosotros como el que sirve» (Lc
22,27), pues «el Hijo del hombre no ha venido a ser servido, sino a servir y a dar su vida en rescate por todos» (Mt
20,28). En una ocasión, el ejemplo de Jesús se concretó realizando el trabajo de un esclavo al lavar los pies de sus
discípulos. Quería dejar así bien claro, con este gesto, que sus seguidores debían servir, ayudar y amarse
unos a otros, como hermanos y servidores de todos, tal como propone la parábola del buen samaritano.
Debemos vivir toda la vida cristiana con sentido de servicio sin creer que estamos haciendo algo extraordinario. Toda la vida familiar, profesional y social —en el mundo político, económico, etc.— ha de estar impregnada
de este espíritu. «Para servir, servir», afirmaba san Josemaría Escrivá; él quería dar a entender que para “ser útil”
es preciso vivir una vida de servicio generoso sin buscar honores, glorias humanas o aplausos.
Los antiguos afirmaban el “nolentes quaerimus” —«buscamos para los cargos de gobierno a quienes no
los ambicionan; a quienes no desean figurar»— cuando había que hacer nombramientos jerárquicos. Ésta es la intencionalidad propia de los buenos pastores dispuestos a servir a la Iglesia como ella quiere ser servida: asumir la
condición de siervos como Cristo. Recordemos, según las conocidas palabras de san Agustín, cómo debe ejercerse
una función eclesial: «Non tam praeesse quam prodesse»; no tanto con el mando o la presidencia sino, más bien,
con la utilidad y el servicio.

LAS CLASES DE CATECUMENADO en inglés, para las personas de 16 años
en adelante que no han sido bautizadas, o que les gustaría ser miembros de la
iglesia católica, o aquellos que no han recibido los sacramentos de Comunión
y o Confirmación, comenzarán el domingo 20 de octubre después de nuestra
misa de las 10:00 a.m. en el balcón. Para clases en español favor de llamar a la
rectoría durante horas de oficina.
LA SEGUNDA COLECTA del próximo domingo 13 de octubre será para la
electricidad y el mantenimiento de la iglesia. Gracias.
RETIRO DE JOVENES. El sábado 19 de octubre habrá un retiro para jóvenes
de 15 a 19 años en el Salón de Hospitalidad, de 8:30 a.m. a 4:00 p.m. Te invitamos a conocer a Cristo (tú amigo fiel). El retiro será ofrecido por el Grupo

SUPLICA DEL OBISPO. Gracias por su respuesta a la Súplica del Obispo.

tenemos $10,373. La Suplica del Obispo terminará oficialmente el 31 de diciembre
del 2013. Recuerda que tu donación ayuda a alimentar a los hambrientos, da

DE LA CANCILLERIA. La Quinta Gala Anual en beneficio para la restauración de la catedral de St. Thomas, se llevará a cabo el 1 de febrero del 2014
en el Hotel Marriott Frenchman’s Reef, en St. Thomas, donde nuestro obispo
Herbert A. Bevard presentará el galardón de las Llaves y Espada a el sr. Anthneil C. Ottley, presidente de Ottley Communications y a el sr. Jean Dragin,
presidente de Jean Dragin Enterprises. Comenzando con la recepción a las 6:00
p.m. seguida por la comida a las 7:15 p.m., Awards, Baile, Rifa y Door prizes.

Fiesta de la Virgen del Rosario
Nuestra Señora del Rosario o Virgen del Rosario es una advocación
mariana venerada por la Iglesia católica, que celebra el 7 de octubre
la fiesta de la Bienaventurada Virgen María del Santísimo Rosario.
En el siglo XVI, San Pío V instauró su fecha el 7 de octubre, aniversario
de la victoria en la Batalla de Lepanto, donde las fuerzas cristianas
derrotaron a los turcos que invadían Europa (atribuida a la Virgen),
denominándola Nuestra Señora de las Victorias; además, agregó a la letanía de la
Virgen el título de Auxilio de los Cristianos. Su sucesor, Gregorio XIII, cambió el
nombre de su festividad al de Nuestra Señora del Rosario. A causa de la victoria
en la batalla de Temesvár en 1716, atribuida por Clemente XI a la imagen, el papa
ordenó que su fiesta se celebrase por la Iglesia universal. León XIII, cuya devoción
por esta advocación hizo que fuera apodado el Papa del Rosario, escribió unas
encíclicas referentes al rosario, consagró el mes de octubre al rosario e incluyó
el título de Reina de Santísimo Rosario en la letanía de la Virgen.

Durante toda la meditación vi. al Señor Jesús sobre el altar, con una túnica blanca,
teniendo en la mano mi cuaderno en el que
estoy escribiendo estas cosas. Durante toda
la meditación Jesús hojeaba las páginas del
cuaderno y callaba, pero mi corazón no lograba
soportar el ardor que se había incendiado en mi
alma. A pesar de los esfuerzos de la voluntad
para dominarme y para no dejar conocer a los
que me rodeaban lo que pasaba en mi alma, al
final de la meditación sentí que no dependía
de mí en absoluto. De repente Jesús me dijo:
No has escrito en este cuaderno todo sobre
Mi bondad hacia los hombres; deseo que
no omitas nada; deseo que tu corazón esté
basado en una completa tranquilidad.
