ONE LORD, ONE FAITH
Do you suppose the authors of the four Gospels were aware
of today’s first reading from the second book of Kings? Of course
they were. The prophet Elisha fed a hundred men with twenty
barley loaves in order to prove God’s power. This same miracle,
now multiplied by more people fed by fewer loaves, is attributed to
Jesus in all four Gospels. In today’s passage from John we even
have the detail that the loaves were barley, reminding every pious
Jew of that miracle that Elisha worked. Yet Jesus went into hiding
when they wanted to make him king. It is the passage from Paul’s
Letter to the Ephesians that gives us the reason for this. The power
of Jesus comes from God. It is not meant merely to feed us, or to
provide one group with a king. There is one Lord, one faith, one
God and Father of all who works through Jesus Christ and through
us all.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
The story of the multiplication of the loaves and the
fishes is a familiar one, and has many lessons, not least
of which is how our willingness to share who we are and
what we have - exercising good stewardship - releases
God’s power and bountifulness on the world and its
people. Do we realize that there is enough for all if we
are willing to share? Are we aware that God is at work
when we share our time, our money and our other
resources in His name?
This week we would like help

As you plan your vacation,
please remember that your parish continues operating
even while you are gone. Our Sunday collections drop
dramatically during the summer months, while our
expenses stay the same. You can help us meet our operating costs
by mailing in your envelopes before you leave or by signing up for
our ELECTRONIC TRANSFER donation program. You can
have automatic donations made from your credit card (and earn
those points!) or from your bank account. Over 30 families have
been using this program for the last 7 years with no problems. It’s
secure! It’s simple! And no more having to worry about forgetting
your envelope or check at home when you get to Mass! Call
Cristina at 489-2680 ext. 16 if you want to enroll or you have any
questions.
mismas y tristes condiciones humanas.

MUCHA NECESIDAD
DE ORACIÓN
Todo cristiano
necesita media hora de
oración diaria, excepto

PRAY FOR VOCATIONS
Good and gracious Father, bless our
Diocese of Monterey with consecrated men
and women to serve the church. Increase
the number of priests who announce the
Gospel and celebrate the sacraments.
Lord, give to your priests a generous heart
that they may follow the example of Jesus
our Good Shepherd, and through the
intercession of your servant St. John
Vianney, grant them the grace to love their
ministry. We pray also for women that
they may be inspired to follow you by
serving others in religious life. O Virgin
Mary, Lady of Bethlehem, sustain with
your grace all those who have been called
to serve. Amen

ministry has recently started a dance studio in Guadalupe and will
be having the grand opening on Saturday, August 18th, from 10:00

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Our parish has Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel
every Friday from 12:30 - 5:30 pm.
What will I experience at Eucharistic Adoration?
Our experience of God’s presence can never be adequately
expressed in words. Jesus is light shining into our darkness, healing
our sorrows and our fears. He is the bread that satisfies our spiritual
hunger, and the brother who reaches out to rescue us. No matter
where we have wandered, Jesus is always there to welcome us home.
During His life on earth, He laughed and cried. He died and
journied to Hell. He resurrected and prepared a place for us in
Heaven. Christ remains with us in everything, offering His spirit,
His body, and His blood. During our time in the chapel, we can
surrender into His love, moment by moment, and get to know Him
better.

Involving Young People in Sacred Liturgy is
Good Stewardship
Now that your teen or college age young adult has received
the sacrament of Confirmation, isn’t it time to get them more
deeply involved in the Mass? It is no secret that one of the
best ways for a young person to nurture a greater love for the
Eucharist is by a more active participation in the liturgy.
As good stewards of the faith life of teenagers and young
adults, let’s Identify their gifts and invite them to a fuller
participation at the table of the Lord. Get them involved. Make
them feel as though they are welcome as mature, responsible
stewards of the life of the parish family. They will be enriched
by the experience, and so will the faith community.
We need to find God, and he cannot be
found in noise and restlessness. God is the
friend of silence. See how nature - trees,
flowers, grass grows in silence; see the
stars, the moon and the sun, how they move
in silence... We need silence to be able to
touch souls.
