Of course they were. The prophet Elisha fed a hundred men with twenty barley loaves in order to prove God’s power. This same miracle, now multiplied by more people fed by fewer loaves, is attributed to Jesus in all four Gospels. In today’s passage from John we even have the detail that the loaves were barley, reminding every pious Jew of that miracle that Elisha worked. Yet Jesus went into hiding when they wanted to make him king. It is the passage from Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians that gives us the reason for this. The power of Jesus comes from God. It is not meant merely to feed us, or to provide one group with a king. There is one Lord, one faith, one God and Father of all who works through Jesus Christ and through us all. Copyright © J. S. Do we realize that there is enough for all if we are willing to share? Are we aware that God is at work when we share our time, our money and our other resources in His name? PRAY FOR VOCATIONS Good and gracious Father, bless our Diocese of Monterey with consecrated men and women to serve the church. Increase the number of priests who announce the Gospel and celebrate the sacraments. Lord, give to your priests a generous heart that they may follow the example of Jesus our Good Shepherd, and through the intercession of your servant St. John Vianney, grant them the grace to love their ministry. We pray also for women that they may be inspired to follow you by serving others in religious life. O Virgin Mary, Lady of Bethlehem, sustain with your grace all those who have been called to serve. Amen (831)-645-2813 or [email protected] Flowers Donated by Shirley Torres In Memory of Hector R. Torres Jr. How do the words “mission,” “rap,” “gangs,” and “Catholic” fit together? Meet our own, local Fr. Masseo Gonzales, known as the "Rapping Padre." Calling on his own delinquent past, he reaches out to at-risk youth through rap and dance and the performing arts, through the non-profit he founded, El Padrecito Ministries. The ministry has recently started a dance studio in Guadalupe and will be having the grand opening on Saturday, August 18th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Of course all are invited! Bishop Thomas Curry will be blessing the new center. Watch for details in the bulletin about August 18th Want to help? Both contributions and adult volunteers are welcome. Visit his website to learn more: www.elpadrecito.org Information provided by the Central California Coast Maryknoll Affiliates. (Contact: Paula@ [email protected].) EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Our parish has Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel every Friday from 12:30 - 5:30 pm. What will I experience at Eucharistic Adoration? Our experience of God’s presence can never be adequately expressed in words. Jesus is light shining into our darkness, healing our sorrows and our fears. He is the bread that satisfies our spiritual hunger, and the brother who reaches out to rescue us. No matter where we have wandered, Jesus is always there to welcome us home. During His life on earth, He laughed and cried. He died and journied to Hell. He resurrected and prepared a place for us in Heaven. Christ remains with us in everything, offering His spirit, His body, and His blood. During our time in the chapel, we can surrender into His love, moment by moment, and get to know Him better. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (R. C. I. A.) This is an invitation to non-Catholics that may have questions or are curious about our Catholic faith. Come join our sessions in which we explore the teachings of the Church: Beliefs, practices, and rituals. This invitation is also extended to any Catholic over 18 years of age who has not Involving Young People in Sacred Liturgy is Good Stewardship Now that your teen or college age young adult has received the sacrament of Confirmation, isn’t it time to get them more deeply involved in the Mass? It is no secret that one of the best ways for a young person to nurture a greater love for the Eucharist is by a more active participation in the liturgy. As good stewards of the faith life of teenagers and young adults, let’s Identify their gifts and invite them to a fuller participation at the table of the Lord. Get them involved. Make them feel as though they are welcome as mature, responsible stewards of the life of the parish family. They will be enriched by the experience, and so will the faith community. We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls.
