16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
A very striking image is seen in today's Gospel: a woman, at the time when
women were not allowed to be disciple of a rabbi or a prophet, is sitting at
the feet of a man and attentively listening to what he is saying.
Mary practices the indispensable characteristic of being hospitality: paying
attention to the guest. She is receiving Jesus for who he is: the person of the
rabbi and the person of the prophet who speaks the word of God.
Not only that, Mary also acknowledges the authority of Jesus with her posture of seating at his feet. In seating at the feet of Jesus and listening attentively to his word, Mary takes on the role of the disciple.
The image of Mary sitting and listening to Jesus not only challenges us to
reexamine our lives as disciples of Christ it also invites us to rededicate ourselves to be authentic disciples of Christ.
We are ever being invited to re-consecrating ourselves to be disciples who
not simply welcome and invite Jesus into our homes and attentively listen to
him. It is the re-consecration to be the disciples who follows the teaching of
their master. It is the reconsecration of putting on Christ that we can be
Christ for others.
Our Lady of Loretto, pray for us!

16 ° Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
Una imagen muy llamativa se ve en el Evangelio de hoy: una mujer, en los tiempos en que las mujeres no se les permitía ser discípulo de un
rabino o un profeta, está sentado a los pies de un hombre y escuchando con atención a lo que está diciendo.
María practica la característica indispensable de hospitalidad: presta atención al huésped. Ella está recibiendo a Jesús por lo que es: la persona del rabino y la persona del profeta que habla la palabra de Dios.
No sólo eso, María también reconoce la autoridad de Jesús con su postura de estar a sus pies. Al sentarse a los pies de Jesús y escuchar con
atención su palabra, María asume el papel de discípulo.
La imagen de María sentada y escuchando a Jesús no sólo nos obliga a reexaminar nuestras vidas
como discípulos de Cristo, sino que también nos invita a volver a dedicarnos a ser auténticos
discípulos de Cristo.
Se nos invita cada vez que volvamos a consagrarnos a ser discípulos, que no sólo demos la bienvenida e invitemos a Jesús a nuestros hogares sino que también lo escuchemos con atención. Es
la re-consagración a ser los discípulos que siguen las enseñanzas de su maestro. Es la nueva consagración de revestirse de Cristo que podemos ser Cristo para los demás.
