MEMORIAL DONATIONS AND FUND
When a loved person dies, instead of giving
gifts of specific items, we request that a donation
be made to a parish memorial fund. The fund
permits the family of the deceased to remember
them through the purchase of an item that is both
useful and necessary to the parish.
In addition to the above, the following
MEMORIALS can be had: BREAD & WINE for
the week is available at a suggested offering of
$25; FLOWERS for the altar for the week are
available at a suggested offering of $35; and
monthly ALTAR CANDLES at a suggested
offering of $50.
Dear Friends,
Accounting For Our Hope
Jesus’ “Farewell Discourse” in John’s Gospel invites us to prepare for the great feast of Pentecost, the coming of
the Holy Spirit, who will continue Christ’s mission in his new “body,” the people baptized in the name of the Triune
God.
God’s Holy Spirit comes as our “advocate,” to abide with and accompany us forever. Thanks to the Spirit, we
acknowledge God as father and mother and life. Jesus and the Spirit are with the Christian community, guiding us to
all truth, and encouraging us to put truth into practice here and now.
The Lord also calls us to be “advocates” in solidarity with our brothers and sisters, particularly those who seem to
be powerless and defenseless. If Jesus does not leave us “orphans,” neither can we leave those most in need as orphans.
This is true worship, “sanctifying the Lord in our hearts” (1Peter).
Jesus gives us life, for the purpose of his mission: to serve, not to control or impose ideas. This gift helps us respect
and welcome our neighbors with their needs, sufferings, and life projects. All of this makes up the “good conduct in
Christ” to which Peter calls us. We cannot sit idly by as the rights of our neighbor are ignored or crushed. The right to
a full life is primary for every human person.
Being with and advocating for our neighbor, whoever he or she may be, can enable us to give an “accounting for our
hope” (1 Peter), in the presence of the Spirit who abides with and accompanies us always.

El "Discurso de despedida" de Jesús en el Evangelio de Juan nos invita a preparar para la gran fiesta de Pentecostés, la venida del Espíritu Santo, quien continuará la misión de Cristo en su nuevo "cuerpo", los bautizados en el
nombre del Dios Trino.
El Espíritu Santo de Dios viene como nuestro “abogado,” a permanecer con nosotros y acompañarnos siempre.
Gracias al Espíritu, reconocemos a Dios como padre y madre y vida. Jesús y el Espíritu están con la comunidad cristiana, guiando a toda la verdad, y animándonos a poner en práctica la verdad aquí y ahora.
El Señor también nos llama a ser "defensores" en solidaridad con nuestros hermanos y hermanas, especialmente
los que parecen ser impotentes e indefensos. Si Jesús no nos deja "huérfanos", tampoco podemos nosotros dejar a los
más necesitados como huérfanos. Esta es la verdadera adoración, "Venerar en el corazón a Cristo, el Señor"(1 Pedro).
Jesús nos da la vida, con el propósito de su misión: para servir, no para controlar ni imponer ideas. Este don nos
ayuda a respetar y dar la bienvenida a nuestros vecinos con sus necesidades, sufrimientos, y proyectos de vida. Todo
esto hace que la "buena conducta en Cristo" a lo que Pedro nos llama. No podemos quedarnos de brazos cruzados mientras los derechos de nuestros vecinos están ignorados o aplastados. El derecho a una vida plena es primordial para todo ser humano .
Estar con y abogar por el prójimo, sea quien sea, nos puede permitir dar una "contabilidad de nuestra esperanza" (1
Pedro), en la presencia del Espíritu que mora con nosotros y nos acompaña siempre.

La lecture d'aujourd'hui tirée de l'Evangile de Jean nous invite à nous préparer pour la grande fête de la
Pentecôte. Le « discours d'adieu » de Jésus annonce l’arrivée de l'Esprit Saint, qui continuera la mission du Christ
dans son nouveau « corps, » les personnes baptisées au nom du Dieu en trois personnes.
L'esprit saint de Dieu vient en tant que notre « avocat, » pour demeurer en nous et nous accompagner pour
toujours. Grâce à l'Esprit, nous reconnaissons Dieu comme père, mère et vie. Jésus et l'Esprit sont avec la
communauté chrétienne, nous guidant vers toute la vérité, et nous encourageant à faire ce qui est vrai et mettant la
vérité en pratique ici et maintenant.
Le seigneur nous invite également á devenir des « avocats » en solidarité avec nos frères et sœurs, en particulier
ceux qui semblent être impuissants et sans défense. Si Jésus ne nous laisse pas « orphelins. » nous ne pouvons non
plus laisser ceux qui sont le plus dans le besoin comme orphelins. C'est cela le vrai culte, « sanctifier le seigneur dans
nos cœurs” (Pierre I).
Jésus nous donne la vie, à cause de sa mission. Ce cadeau devrait nous faire respecter et accueillir nos voisins
avec leurs besoins, leur douleur, leurs projets dans la vie. Tout ceci compose la « bonne conduite dans le Christ » vers
laquelle Pierre nous appelle . Nous ne pouvons pas rester oisif comme ceux-là qui se posent en maîtres de la vie des
autres. Le droit à une vie pleine est le droit primordial de l’humain.
Étant avec et plaidant pour notre voisin, quelque soit ce qu’il (elle) est, peut nous permettre de « rendre compte
de notre espoir” ( Pierre I), en présence de l'esprit qui demeure en nous et qui nous accompagne toujours.

We are grateful this week for all stewards in
our parish who assist others in deepening
their relationship with Christ through evangelization, catechesis and ongoing formation.
For all parents frustrated by their poverty:
that they might generously bestow on their
children the invaluable gifts of love,
patience, and understanding;
The majority of people killed in firearm
accidents are under age 24, and most of
these young people are being shot by
someone else, usually someone their
own age.
Let us turn to our Lord in prayer that we
make a commitment to the control of
firearms and bring about a culture of love
and peace.

Peace Begins With Us
MEMORIAL DAY
A TIME TO REMEMBER
May we take the time to remember the true
meaning of Memorial Day, a sacred day dedicated by our nation to mourn the loss of
American lives killed in war.
And as we honor the fallen, may we also
spend time reflecting on the survivors and
victims of war still suffering in mind and spirit,
and pray for their healing.
Dear Lord, we remember all the victims of the
wars of our nation—the fallen, the dead, whose
graves we honor with solemn respect, each grave
a face, a story, a soul behind coldly etched stone,
some buried in eternal anonymity to us but not to
you. We know that war is a defeat of human purpose, strangely uniting all sides compelled by opposing views of righteousness, now all colleagues
in death.
We remember the survivors, all forever changed,
some bearing cruel reminders of war’s human cost
in broken bodies and shattered psyches.
We remember children forced to witness war and
its atrocities, the confusion of young minds told
that killing is wrong and struggling to comprehend
the exception of war. May we remember the pleas
of Pope Pius VI at the UN in 1965: “War, never
again!” and the words of Pope John Paul II: “War
is a defeat for humanity.”
We give thanks for those Peace Workers and Peace
Makers around the world, tirelessly striving to end
all wars.
May we all pray and work for an end to all wars.

Dear Senator Boyle:
Thank you for your support of A. 1792 / S. 1743, the Farmworker Fair Labor Practices Act, which will ensure
that farmworkers are provided the basic labor rights, protections and benefits that all other workers throughout
New York State already receive. We urge you to call upon your Senate colleagues to bring this bill to the full
Senate floor for a vote and to support the bill when that vote is cast.
Please tell your colleagues that the Farmworker Fair Labor Practices Act is important because:

Farmworkers are the only group of workers in New York who are categorically excluded from our state’s
labor law. This is simply unfair and immoral.
Farmworkers are essential to New York’s $4.7 billion dollar agricultural industry. Yet, many farmworkers
still have total incomes that put them below the poverty level.
Farm work is often a punishing and dangerous job that takes a serious toll on workers’ health and well
being. When workers are treated fairly, farmers benefit from a happier, healthier and motivated workforce.
We must not stand for laws that target and exclude people from basic civil rights. The vast majority –
approximately 78% of NY’s Farmworkers are Latino. Approximately 70% of farmworkers are also
undocumented, making them particularly vulnerable to exploitation.
As a constituent, I again ask you to support A.1792 / S.1743, the Farmworker Fair Labor Practices Act and urge you
to ask your colleagues to do the same so that farmworkers are provided the basic labor rights, protections and benefits
that all other workers throughout New York State already receive.

The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus
Christ rose from the dead on Easter, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen
Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven.
The reality of Christ's Ascension is so important that the creeds
(the basic statements of belief) of Christianity all affirm, in the
words of the Apostles’ Creed, that "He ascended into heaven, sits
at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from thence He shall
come to judge the living and the dead." The denial of the
Ascension is as grave a departure from Christian teaching as is
denial of Christ's Resurrection.
Christ's bodily Ascension foreshadows our own entrance into
Heaven not simply as souls, after our death, but as glorified
bodies, after the resurrection of the dead at the Final Judgment.
In redeeming mankind, Christ not only offered salvation to our
souls but began the restoration of the material world itself to the
glory that God intended before Adam's fall.
The Feast of the Ascension marks the beginning of the
first novena, or nine days of prayer. Before His Ascension, Christ promised to send the Holy Spirit to His
apostles. Their prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit, which began on Ascension Thursday, ended with the
descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, ten days later. Today, Catholics recall that first novena by praying the Novena to the Holy Ghost between Ascension and Pentecost, asking for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and
the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

WE WALKED AMONG THE CROSSES
We walked among the crosses where our fallen
soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle as taps began to play.
REMEMBER
The chaplain led a prayer, we stood with heads bowed
low.
And I thought of fallen comrades I had known so long
ago.
It’s the soldier, not the reporter who gives you freedom
of the press.
They came from every city across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here ‘neath the sand.
It’s the soldier, not the poet who gives you freedom of
speech.
I felt a little guilty, my sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time, but these men lost their all.
It’s the soldier, not the organizer, who allows you to
demonstrate.
Now the services are over for this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses I just want to say,
Thanks for what you’ve given, no one could ask for
more.
May you rest with God in heaven from now through
evermore.
It’s the soldier who salutes the flag, whose coffin is
draped with the flag, who allows the protestor to burn
the flag!

families for their sacrifices.

nuestra parroquia que ayudan a otros en la profundización de
su relación con Cristo a través de la evangelización, la
catequesis y la formación permanente.

Por todos los padres frustrados por su pobreza: que
generosamente puedan otorgar a sus hijos los dones
inestimables de amor, paciencia y comprensión;

de fuego son menores de
24 años, y la mayoría de
estos jóvenes están
siendo baleados por otra
persona, por lo general
alguien de su misma
edad.
Volvamos a nuestro Señor en la oración y
hagamos un compromiso con el control de
armas de fuego y lograr una cultura de
amor y de paz.

DÍA DE LOS CAÍDOS
Un tiempo para recordar
Podemos tomar el tiempo para recordar el verdadero significado del Día de los Caídos, un día sagrado dedicado por nuestro país para llorar la pérdida de vidas estadounidenses muertas en la guerra.
Y como se honra a los caídos, podemos también pasar tiempo reflexionando sobre los sobrevivientes y
víctimas de la guerra que aún sufren en la mente y en espíritu, y rezar por su curación.
Querido Dios, recordamos a todas las víctimas de las guerras de nuestra nación - los caídos, los muertos,
cuyas tumbas honramos con solemne respeto, cada tumba una cara, una historia, un alma detrás de la piedra grabada con frialdad, algunos enterrados en el anonimato eterno para nosotros, pero no para ti. Sabemos que la guerra es una derrota del propósito humano, uniendo extrañamente todos los lados obligados por
la opinión de la justicia, ahora todos muertos.
Recordamos a los sobrevivientes, todo cambió para siempre, algunos llevan recordatorios crueles del costo
humano de la guerra en los cuerpos rotos y mentes destrozadas.
Recordamos a los niños obligados a presenciar la guerra y sus atrocidades, la confusión de las mentes de los
jóvenes cuando se le dijo que matar está mal y luchando por comprender la excepción en la guerra. Que podamos recordar los ruegos del Papa Pío VI en la ONU en 1965 : "La guerra , nunca más!" Y las palabras
del Papa Juan Pablo II : "La guerra es una derrota para la humanidad."
Damos gracias por los trabajadores por la paz y la paz fabricantes de todo el mundo, sin descanso tratando
de poner fin a todas las guerras.
Que todos podamos orar y trabajar para poner fin a todas las guerras.

LA ASCENSIÓN DEL SEÑOR AL CIELO
Después de su pasión y muerte, Jesús se presentó a los apóstoles que
había elegido, dándoles muchas pruebas de que vivía, apareciéndoseles
durante cuarenta días y hablándoles acerca de lo referente al Reino de
Dios. Les prometió que serían bautizados en el Espíritu Santo:
«Recibiréis –les dijo– la fuerza del Espíritu Santo, que vendrá sobre vosotros, y seréis mis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea y Samaría, y hasta los confines de la tierra». Y entre las muchas instrucciones que les fue
dando, San Mateo recuerda que les habló así: «Me ha sido dado todo poder en el cielo y en la tierra. Id, pues, y haced discípulos a todas las gentes bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo,
y enseñándoles a guardar todo lo que yo os he mandado. Y he aquí que
yo estoy con vosotros todos los días hasta el fin del mundo».
Por último, a los cuarenta días de su resurrección, el Señor Jesús llevó a
sus discípulos fuera de Jerusalén, a la cima del Monte de los Olivos, cerca de Betania, y, alzando sus manos, los bendijo. Y sucedió que, mientras los bendecía, se separó de ellos, fue elevado al cielo, una nube lo
ocultó a sus ojos, y se sentó a la diestra de Dios.
Estando ellos mirando fijamente al cielo mientras Jesús se iba, se les aparecieron dos hombres vestidos de blanco
que les dijeron: «Galileos, ¿qué hacéis ahí mirando al cielo? Éste que os ha sido llevado, este mismo Jesús,
vendrá así tal como le habéis visto subir al cielo». Entonces se volvieron con gran gozo a Jerusalén y perseveraban todos constantes en la oración, con un mismo espíritu, en compañía de María, la madre de Jesús.
