There will be monthly themes for the Diocese as well as every parish. This coming October 27th, the last Saturday of the month, we’ll be going to THE BASILICA OF THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. This Pilgrimage is a tribute to Mary which we, as a Diocese, make every other year. This is not meant to be a tour, but rather a spiritual journey to honor our Blessed Mother and pray for the needs of our country, our diocese and our parish family. Since this will be a one-day trip, we’re aiming to make the journey with one 15 minute stop each way. The estimated time for the trip, with a short stop will be approximately 5 hours and we plan on leaving by 6:00AM so we can arrive at the Shrine by 11:00AM. Our plans include being greeted by our Bishop, Nicholas DiMarzio, a mid-day prayer service at 12 Noon, an opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Confession, exposition of the Holy Eucharist leading to a concelebrated Mass at 3:00PM. The Liturgy should conclude at 5:00PM. Departure for the trip home will begin immediately. A one-day trip like this can be exhausting, but please keep in mind that this is a spiritual Pilgrimage to our Lady and the inconvenience of the trip itself is part of the sacrifice. This Pilgrimage is open to the entire Parish and not limited in any way, with the exception of unaccompanied children. We are planning to have 2 buses each with 54 people leaving from right here in front of our church. If we don’t have enough people to fill a bus, we will have to go with another parish. The entire cost is $56 per person and this will include water, snacks and donation made to the Basilica. Payment can be made by check written to “Our Lady of Mount Carmel” or cash and you will be given a receipt. The Shrine does have a cafeteria with modest prices, however, the facilities are limited to 288 people at one time, and there could be long waits… you could be disappointed or become frustrated. It’s recommended that each of us bring our lunches as well as non-perishable items such as juice boxes or fruit. Please remember that the Bishop’s hope and aim is that this be a spiritual Pilgrimage with our Blessed Mother as the focal point of the entire day. Thank you for your attention and God Bless you and your family. ************************************************************************************************************************* NAME___________________________________PHONE_________________________________ FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL THE RECTORY AT 718-278-1834 OR NEIDA MARTINEZ AT 718-278-1749 OR EMAIL: [email protected] PLEASE DETACH AND DROP OFF AT THE RECTORY OR GIVE TO AN USHER. PARISH BULLETIN BOARD “FROM THE OGLE OFFICE” DE EL PASTOR Dear Friends, We thank members of the Colon-Higgins Council Knights of Columbus for staffing the tables for our non-partisan voter registration drive this weekend. Please take advantage of this opportunity if you have never registered, or have recently moved to this area, or have recently become a citizen. September will be a month thanksgiving in our parish. Father Sean Suckiel, who served his pastoral year assignment here two years ago and was ordained a priest in June, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday September 2 at 11:15 AM (bi-lingual). The following weekend, Bishop Raymond Chappetto, a native son of our parish, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Saturday, September 8 at 5:00 PM. And of course, our beloved former pastor, Bishop Paul Sanchez, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving here on Sunday, September 23 at 11:15 Am (bi-lingual). On September 2 and September 23 only, the Spanish 12:30 Mass will be celebrated in the lower church to facilitate crowd flow. Many of you have become acquainted with Mrs. Zilia Hirsch who served here with great dedication for six years as the Director of Religious Education. She has been a beloved and helpful staff member and presence in our parish who has help many youngsters learn their catechism and make their sacraments. Mrs. Hirsch will not be returning to us in September and will be retiring from Religious Education administration here. We will miss her warm and charming presence. Please remember her fondly in your prayers. The work of coordinating our religious Education will be taken over by Mrs. Nelly Gutierrez who has served as Religious Education secretary since January and will assume the title of Coordinator of Religious Education. She has many years of experience in the field having previously served in the same capacity at St Gabriel’s parish in East Elmhurst. Please extend to her a warm welcome. And remember that we are still in need of additional catechists for our growing religious ed program. We remind all parents that new diocesan guidelines require youngsters to attend religious education classes every year of primary school after first communion in order to be eligible to receive the sacrament of confirmation--- not just two years, but all six years of preparation between second and eighth grade. All parishes will be adhering to this rule. So please remind your children, cousins or neighbors to register for religious education now for September classes. God love you, Msgr.
